  • It was nice out. So I made a Tiki drink. (Recipe Below). .
I really wanted to use Amaro Nonimo in a tiki cocktail for some reason. I went with some of my sweeter rums to balance with it. Bumbu is fairly sweet and has a strong banana taste. Hence the dried banana next to the drink. Pineapple rum was the obvious rum pairing to me. Then, to make it a tiki drink, I added a half ounce each of pineapple, lime and passionfruit juice. I don't really understand tiki drinks where the base spirits get lost in the juices so I kept the measurements on the smaller side. Finally, because the spirits and the juices I used were on the sweeter side, I skipped out on any sugar and I was happy with the result.

Then I needed a cup. I don't own any proper tiki mugs yet. So I improvised. In the spirit of #earthday I reused the dragonfruit I hollowed out for another drink. Some of the dragonfruit that I missed added a very tiny bit of flavour that you could only notice if you were looking for it. A fun expirement :)

Nel 1905 quando alcuni ingegneri americani impegnati nei lavori in una miniera lo inventarono e gli diedero il nome della spiaggia cubana Daiquiri. Successe che l'ingegnere Pagliuchi visitò una miniera di ferro ad est di Cuba chiamata Daiquiri. Qui fece domande all'ingegnere americano Jennings S. Cox sul funzionamento della miniera per poterne esplorare altre. Alla fine della giornata, Pagliuchi propose di bere qualcosa. La leggenda narra che Cox avesse a disposizione solo rum, lime e zucchero. Miscelarono gli ingredienti in uno shaker con ghiaccio e Pagliuchi fece: "Come si chiama questo cocktail?". "Non ha un nome...potrebbe essere un rum sour", rispose Cox. Pagliuchi concluse: "Questo nome non è degno di un cocktail così fine e delizioso come il nostro. Lo chiameremo Daiquiri". Fu probabilmente Constantino Ribalaigua Vert, mentre lavorava come barman al bar El Floridita, a rendere famoso questo cocktail nella sua composizione attuale col nome de La Cuna del Daiquiri.
