🦵🏼💪🏼 Today I got 💪🏼 🦵🏼
After a fun BBQ party at our house last night and consuming enough jalapeño poppers, buffalo chicken dip, chips and salsa, @michelobultra and hamburgers, I wasn’t quite sure how the body would respond on the hard workout today but it absolutely show’d up! M Pace miles felt super easy, first Tempo mike was where I wanted it under 6 pace but that last tempo got me again!!! But that is ok because I achieved my goal today which was to get stronger.
Someone sent me a message on here this week asking my philosophy on training plans. I answered, keep it as simple as possible. There are three types of workouts: those that are built for recovery running, getting your faster, or getting you stronger...that is it. If you or I go into the workout knowing what the purpose of it is, it helps with achieving that goal and mentally feeling good after it.
Was my last tempo sub 6....not even close!! Did I get a lot stronger today and know this is getting me to my goal for Chicago....ABSOLUTELY!
Every workout is there for a reason, make sure you know what it is prior to starting so you’re able to focus on it after and make sure it was achieved. Now time for some beach, breakfast, and time with my family!
It’s been since this race when I ran in as humid of weather as I did today in Atlanta! 😅😅😅
One of the best things about running is not matter where your work takes you, the ability to maintain training is still there. Being on the eastern time zone now, I am having to get up at 2am my time to@get the runs in 😞😕
This is not something my body is used to so this week it’s all about making sure the mileage are in and focus on my hard workout this weekend. It may not be ideal as i am rounding out my training plan for Chicago, but I also do not want to miss my workouts. *
Running is special like this. It just takes heart and determination. As long as your shoes fit in your bag (which they always should 😜) you can still train!! Another humid one tomorrow! #teamultra
As I was running this morning I got on a random thought trail of all cool races I’ve been blessed to do. It was all prompted by the shirt I had on of a local half marathon (@tustinhangarhalf) where I was able to run through a structure I’d always wanted to go in as a kid.
Having been blessed to run in 2 Boston’s 🦄, 4 NYC 🗽, 2 LA 🎞, 4 spectacular Ironman locations🏊🏼♂️🚴🏼♂️🏃🏼, 3 Alcatraz races 🌁, and many more, I am beyond stoked for this years line up of races. So excited I had to focus on slowing myself down more than normal.
Some people dream of running the US Major marathons over the course of several years. This year I am bless to be running all 3 in the same year!! Never in a million years did I think I would ever do that.
So I have to reflect on the start of this journey in Hopkinton and look forward to my finish in Central Park I’m just a few short months! #teamultra

That one hurt 😞!!! First mile repeats in quite a long time and I for sure felt the pain. Goal was to hit all of them sub 5:50 and did it in all but one. I am moderately happy with my workout but EXTREMELY pumped on the mental win of today. I did not want to do these today. Even got close to reasoning with myself to move my hard workout to Wednesday. Mentally battled to get the first mile in and when that happens I know I’m finishing the work.
Repeats are hard both mentally and physically but they also get you the most bang for your buck! That’s why I always have a love/hate relationship with them. Needed but also annoying.
Time for some easy miles tomorrow and enjoy tonight with my family
Funny timing for @runforfun5 to grab this picture during the second relay leg on Saturday. For a good portion of the 7 miles, I got to run parallel to these ominous clouds, hearing the occasional grumble of thunder. The entire time I kept thinking about how cool it was and how many crazy experiences this funny sport has given me in the short time I’ve been running. Whether its running across Vermont, running the streets of Philadelphia (@lhansen30 wanted to stop in some real questionable stores), running-ish up mountains in the Adirondacks, running an ultra somewhere in PA (@pommer_aaron I’ll look up the address next time sooner than the day before), or just daily runs with Aaron (which is where we’ve actually planned the entire wedding) - a solid chunk of my favorite life moments have happened with running shoes on. Considering I’m a former basketball player who ran cross country for one season and ate Pringle’s before practice and then cried...I’m pretty lucky for how this all turned out.

Pour commencer la semaine du bon pied, rien de tel que de chausser les baskets et de faire un petit tour sur les hauteurs de la ville... le tout en bonne compagnie.. BFF💋
These kids were so proud of their dad for his PB at his half marathon. I was also very proud. It’s way more fun watching then actually running. Lol. Way to go dear, you killed it! (Also, he’s not on insta so this is just me bragging about the hubs)
I stopped, I walked, and I complained a lot! TG for @nickjohnstagram riding his bike along side of me, handing me water, and being supportive every step of the way. Sometimes it’s hard to find that strength within to keep going. Having people in your life who tell you you can do it and are there for you when you have a bad day is just as important.
Even after all the negative self talk, Nick kept reminding me “It’s ok you’re having a bad day just keep going, you’ll be proud of yourself that you finished.” So that’s what I did - it wasn’t pretty, but I ran all 9 of my planned miles.
If you’re struggling to get any type of fitness in today, it’s ok to have an off day. You’ve done it before you can do it again - just finish so you can be proud of your day 😀
PS - please note the 9 mile transformation from braid to dreadlock. Thank you 90% humidity.
Sunday Long Run success! I finally managed to break the 7/7.5 mile barrier. Last week I doubt myself as to whether I could get myself ready for my first half at the beginning of October! Today I managed to push through and managed to hit 8.5 miles in the Heat!! So I’m really pleased and relieved with this progress!
Such a lush evening for a run 🏃🏼♀️☀️ even if it is a little bit windy. It’s very rare that I run in the evening, all day I have had the urge to get out for a run but just never managed it. I even surprised myself when I actually headed out this evening.
I did however end up with a mouthful of sand, luckily my glasses saved my eyes 😎
