Always before a workout and never after 10am... because well, sleep 😴 Me and my man went to a park after this and smashed out some sprint intervals, crazy part was it was on a Saturday 😧 I always thought people who worked out on the weekend were crazy, like mate do you have a chill button?? Haha well maybe they still are and I’m now just as crazy as them?! Because I liked it! So much so I did a morning workout the Saturday just been 💪 Makes me feel good for the rest of the weekend and puts me in a good headspace ☺️☀️Think i’m gonna make this routine into a habit 🤗 You should try it this weekend too! Doesn’t have to be crazy, could be a yoga class or a beach walk/run/jog or even 10mins in the morning doing a few stretches 🙌 See how you feel after... maybe you’ll want to make it a little habit of yours too ☺️👯‍♀️❤️📍Coogee, New South Wales, Australia 🌏 #RunningFervor (📷: @bella_be_active)

  • The Boston Marathon holds a special place in my heart and will always represent much more than a marathon. Through my desire and drive to qualify over seven years, I changed my outlook on life and I’m no longer the same person.

When I began my BQ journey in 2008 my focus was misguided. I was overly concerned with what other people thought of me. I was using my race times to validate that I was capable of setting goals and reaching them. When I didn’t PR, I would be sad and frustrated for days or even weeks afterwards. I didn’t sleep peacefully. I was lonely in life and running was all I had.

Not much changed in the first three years because I didn’t realize that my mindset was a detriment to my success. I did meet my husband, and so life overall got much better. The disappointments became easier to deal with because I wasn’t alone. But I still hadn’t done any work on mindset.

In 2012 I finally committed to changing how I approached running and chasing the BQ. My primary purpose was simply to become more at peace with my running. Actually qualifying would come later. To become more at peace with my running, I had to be more at peace with myself and life’s imperfections.

This is when the true journey began. I started chipping away at my anxiety and on my reliance on my marathon time to validate my ability to succeed. I started to savor the training process and hired a new coach. I became more patient with myself. I stopped obsessing and starting laughing.

By the time I finally qualified in 2015 it was less about proving myself and more about celebrating my journey.
