  • Just keep grinding✨ You’re going to be thankful months from now for the work you put in today. Sometimes it’s hard to keep your eye on the prize. That’s why I normally like to race frequently, so that my goals are never too far away. But, how do you keep focused when you are injured, and it’s not clear if you will even be able to run your goal race? I’ve struggled with this a bit lately. Here is what I know: I should be able to run again in 2-4 weeks assuming I heal as expected. I am currently signed up to run NYC Marathon, CIM, and the Miami Half. I’m flexible with my goals, and at this point my A goal is to be able to run/walk NYC and possibly be fully trained for CIM. But, if I’m not healed, NYC might be out of the question and who knows about CIM. I have shifted my focus in training to build the strongest, healthiest body that is ready to run when the time is right. This means doing things I really do not want to do: I’m talking to you, planks. According to my PT, I need to strengthen my core (ugh), loosen the heck up with some yoga (double ugh), continue to strengthen my glutes (easy), and cycle/swim to maintain my cardiovascular fitness (😃). That’s a lot when you think about it! But, if I do it, and put in the work now, I’m going to come out the other side a much happier, healthier runner. And this girl is in it for the long run. So it’s time to put in some WORK. I’m all in. 👊🏼

2+ hours at the gym this morning to fit all 👆🏽in... spin class + arms workout + PT stretches.

  • At last.... some recognition for the #aquajogging 😂
.

I bailed tonight after 40 minutes, just because the pool was that busy I felt sea sick trying to dodge canon balls, actual swimmers and everything in between 🤢
.

However I was pleased to be questioned about aqua jogging in the showers. Seems like a strange sentence but there it is! 😂 someone who had been bashing out the lengths, asked if I was injured, and guessed I was jogging in water to recover. No idea why, but that pleased me 🤷🏼‍♀️
.

Happy Tuesday you lovely lot, keep at it! 👊

  • I don’t have to run, I get to run. Big difference. Running is my thing. Rain, wind, hot, cold, humid or perfect...it doesn’t matter. I definitely don’t take my daily runs for granted!
As I dive deeper into this training cycle, I have to dedicate more time to the things that keep me healthy. The extra stuff, not just the miles I put in. The strength training, the stretching, the foam rolling, fueling properly, enough sleep, keeping track of my shoes, my warm ups & cool downs. All of that is extremely important in keeping me healthy. Sometimes I think the hardest part of marathon training is getting yourself to the start line in one piece😆 Doing all the extra things is my insurance that I’m doing everything possible to have a strong race. What are some of the extra things you guys do to stay healthy during training?
Also...I could’ve used some gills to get through these 10 miles this morning. I felt like a bass fish swimming upstream!🐠😝

  • Six hours of running back and forth over the Humber Bridge. Through the night, with wind that knocks you sideways. No headphones to distract you. No supporters on the bridge cheering you on and motivating you to keep going. It was dark. There was nothing to look at. No water stops, feed stations, or loos; just a cone at either end of the bridge that you have to run around to ‘complete’ your lap. And then go again.

I thought an event like this would be the perfect opportunity to work on my mental strength and resilience after the catastrophe of Edinburgh Marathon a few months ago (tldr; training in the lead up to Edinburgh was phenomenal but on the actual day I lost my 💩 in a BIG WAY and collapsed at the finish). If I could keep it together in the very aptly named Hell on the Humber, surely it would stand me in good stead for my future marathon attempts (Seville in February, btw 😍). It was tough. But... surprisingly... I was tougher!

I coped just fine, and what’s more - I really enjoyed it. In fact, it’s the most fun I’ve had at a running event since my first marathon in Paris last year! It was empowering. It was uplifting. It was simply astonishing to see the sheer determination on other runners’ faces as they battled exhaustion to keep putting one foot in front of the other in the most monotonous of circumstances over 6, 12, 24 or even 36 hours. There was no reeling people in and overtaking them; you competed against yourself and had no idea how many laps others had ran. There were no egos on show, or fancy running shoes, or empty gel packets strewn around (I’d skipped dinner and only had a mini Soreen and a packet of mini cheddars to fuel my run!). I managed 25 miles, but there were some truly epic feats of endurance that weekend. The camaraderie was off the scale and the atmosphere was akin to a festival. Pizza delivered to the Humber Bridge car park at 1am to coincide with your finish? I’m all over that.

I’ll be back again next year!

  • Heyyyyy!
How’s everyone doing?! I feel like this is the first time I can catch my breath in the past 4 days!
It’s been such a busy few days and I’m finally getting back into my morning workout routine! 🙌🏻
Saturday was an awful run for me and I wanted to share about it but I was drained after my run. I ran earlier than expected and that sun just beat me up and chewed me out. I got sick during one mile, dry heaving, and then after I finished I just was so depleted of water and electrolytes that it was almost an emergency situation. I was however able to get it under control and rested all day Sunday. Monday was back to school day for my little boy and the moms and I celebrate each year with a BooHoo Brunch after so another late start to my running but this time I played it safe for sweat loss volume and did a treadmill workout! Wasn’t able to get my strides in.. absolutely hate strides on a mill, but did get in some solid ep base miles.
Today was a better day, things are finding their groove again and I was able to do my workout and then some later for strength at the gym!
My workout today felt so great! Hit my paces like I should and really had an explosive amount of energy left that I just kinda let them go on the last set. Workouts are so fun when you’re training for the rest of the week is done properly!
Crushed my legs afterwards with some heavy weight lifting focusing on my legs and then more deep leg work tonight for Barre. Legs will be screaming later!
Glad things are finding their way back slowly and steady!
How are your workouts looking for the week?
❤️

  • 🔋 R U N N E R G Y 🔋! Because running gives me energy 🤩! Na een lange werkdag, langer doorwerken, met mijn boterhammetjes voor het 🖥 scherm en geen frisse neus tussen de middag 🌸, had ik super veel zin in mijn rustige rondje van 6 km die op de planning stond! Hoofd vol, lekker leeglopen. Genoten 🍀! En extra genoten van de lekkere knuffelmomentjes 👶🏻! Al met al een prima dinsdag! Hoe was jouw dag 💪?
