I want to work on me everyday to feel my best and be my best. Some days are better than others, but I’m way healthier today than I was a year ago. -
I’ve got 2 little ones watching me. Watching me work on myself and be my best version of me. I have two littles I want to know that mom is always a work in progress, but she gives it her best. I want to be the best version of me for them and the best role model for them that I can possibly be. -
So the days that are hard, the days I don’t want to, I remind myself how I want to feel. What I want my kids to see. And what is best for me. -

  • Happy 🐪 day!! Getting back in the groove with a 45 minute run. I love how exercise can make me feel SO much better! Endorphins + a sense of accomplishment can take us pretty far👌

  • There are times when running can get a little boring. The #everysinglestreet challenge/project/journey/ provided a way out of that. This was fun. I like to run at my own pace, mostly by myself. But, I’ve given myself permission these days to stop and catch a breath, usually  by a choice stopping and take a photo. But though I run alone, many of you were there with me on the journey. Some appreciations: (1) @rickeygates Thank you, sir, for the inspiration. I was already addicted to maps, but your own journey helped better spell out the spellbindingness of coloring in my own map through running. Also, intentionally or not, you seem to have launched an #everysinglestreet movement/cult/fungus on the gram that I’m really enjoying being a part of. Thank you, my dude. (2) Those who came before. I have friends in this life who I know outside of running who have cheered me along on this adventure, both in person and through the comments section. Thanks for not thinking me ridiculous, even when I did. Surely I’m missing some folks, but shouts-out to: @danalur @sjbudaj @jamie_chesbro @piercemcmanus @oreillybird @takacskelly @sonnsam @jeffpalladino @werdsmith @bmissal and @geoffstowell. And, of course, I can’t forget @hoppynewyear! (3) New friends. I always knew that the running community was the most supportive out there. But doing this through Instagram has solidified. Many of the folks that I’ve met through Instagram have been the biggest cheerleaders of this whole thing. Thanks to you all: @tonycankles @theboulderhikerchick @runeverystreet @see.bob.run @jlaswerve and the entire @los_runnersnct crew including @riskybusinessman @jaxrunnergirl @mikemacten @gio.gordillo and @elrudo0623. Look forward to running with you all. SOON! (4) The town of Fairfield. I thought I knew you, but your nooks & crannies; your overpasses & underpasses; your mansions & affordable housing complexes; your beaches & forests; hell, your turkeys, deer & pigs have shown me a new side. The very side I had hoped to discover. (5) Finally. Thank you @sherikleinj. You never laugh at my crazy goals. Indeed, you become my PR rep. You are the best. I love you.

So on Saturday when I ran my Parkrun PB (yep still milking that one 😜), I distinctly remember @ruth_runs shouting at me to work my arms in the last desperate sprint to the finish line. I also remember feeling at about mile two that my shoulders were really starting to ache. So it kinda hit me for the first time as to why you do strength training along side running - forgive me I’m still learning and clearly playing catch up.

Running isn’t just your legs, it’s your WHOLE GOD DAMN BODY at work, and in order to “run strong” I guess that means you need to have a strong arms, core and back... is this right? I’m looking at running experts such as @projectmarathongirl for top tips 🤔 💪.

So anyway this evening before the girls were delivered home safely by Grammy, I loaded up the Nike training app and chose two 15 min work outs that focus on my arms and core. And for the first time ever, I actually understood why I was doing it, and enjoyed working these slightly wobbly areas because I know they’ll have me become a stronger runner. So... kids #wednesdaywisdom 🦉 for today is don’t forget your strength training.

Ps my guns are more like water pistols at the moment but baby steps right 🤣.

First ever half marathon race in October @cardiffhalf Only ran the distance twice before. Once on Christmas Day, just to prove to myself that I could. And once getting lost in Port Talbot with @gavrunscardiff

Just under 8 weeks to get ready, so I’m consciously trying to increase my weekly mileage. Albeit sensibly. Not following a plan just following my instinct. Served me well thus far.
  • Warm up: just under 2

I can’t say the difference in these photos is all down to hard work, most of it naturally came off as my lifestyle changed. Left: A time in my life of zero exercise, eating crap and drinking lots. Right: Enjoying exercise and consciously eating. I don’t restrict or deny myself, if I don’t want to exercise I don’t do it, if I want to eat the cake, I frikkin eat it, life is for living after all 😊
