Day: Thursday Mar 21
City: Slave Lake, AB
Venue: Legacy Centre
Today was one of those days I felt rushed. I forgot to take pictures - so thank god Mwansa and Sherie had the good sense to take a photo of us in the dressing room.
I got to see my Aunt and Uncle and my cousin Jordan, which was short lived but really nice to see them.
The venue is beautiful and the folks were really nice. A lady name Mary Brown traded me some beautiful earrings for a CD.
Tonight: Drayton Valley, AB
Saturday: Sherwood Park, AB
Sunday: Wayne, AB
Monday: Calgary, AB
Wednesday: Lethbridge, AB
Friday: White Rock, BC
Day: March 17 & 18
City: Red Deer, AB
Venue: The Jeans Joint
Super fun St. Pats Day Matinee at the Jeans Joint. Andy & Laura always take such good care of us, and made me feel pretty special when they presented me with my first ever Jeano for “Best Damn Band in The Whole Damn Land” - it came complete with a crown which I of course wore for the rest of the day.
We had a day off in Red Deer and @gilmore_guitars gave me a loaner Gilmore parlour guitar to finish our western tour while he works on fixing up my Gibson Parlour that is cracking in half. 😬
We made enough spaghetti to feed an army - and we had nerf fights with Max, and customized a Large SMDS T-shirt for Kate.
Love The Jeans Joint. Love Gilmore Guitars. Thank you.
Living in my own world
That anything can happen
When you take a chance
I never believed in
What I couldn't see
I never opened my heart (ooh)
To all the possibilities (ooh)
I know that something has changed
Never felt this way
And right here tonight
Day: Friday March 15
City: Valleyview, AB
Venue: @mckayjosie & Jeff’s house concert
I have been playing this house concert for 9 years. I am part of the furniture, and the people who come to see me here have seen the full scope of my growth as an artist.
They keep asking why I come back still. The answer is family. Never forget where you come from, and the people who supported you from the beginning.
Thank you for a wonderful night of friends, and music.
Next up: Edson, AB
Ann-Margret emojis. FINALLY! If you see an emoji from me, it is likely a thumbs up or a squirrel, a right on fist or an Easter Island head. Occasionally a slightly rude traditional Japanese mask. The other night, Patti Smith earwigged me with “Aaaaaawwww, this is the age where everybody kree-yates!”, and in that inspired moment I STOPPED folding laundry on our bed and whirled about, camera snapping like the opening of Girls On Film, lured by the look and the running dance that I knew accompanied the booming voice I was hearing... “I’ll cry, Burd-HEEEEE!!!” Now, instead of variations of a copyright free 70s boardwalk t-shirt face that has since been cooped by WalMart to express your mood, you can tap Ann-Margret to give a succinct, dynamic response.
Day: Thursday Feb 28
City: Oostende, Belgium
Venue #1 : Compact Center (acoustic set)
Venue #2 : Manuscript
I had a nap in the afternoon, and @iwmckeown had to wake me up. I was late for the van call... very unlike me.
We played an acoustic in-store show for Yves at Compact Center. I lot of people came and it was tight!
We had an incredible dinner after soundcheck. Flemish Stew, stuffed eggplant and fresh fries. It was awesome.
The venue was super packed, not sure how many more tickets we would have had to sell to sell it out but you couldn’t move and it was hot AF - so in a way - I am glad we only sold as many tickets as we did... any more and it would have been an issue.
Got to meet @heavydsound and pretty cool to see JoJo and his crew who came in from UK just for the show. I cut out early last night, takes longer to get enough beauty rest these days.
Only two more shows on the tour.
Blue Notez - Dortmund, Germany
Day: Wednesday Feb 27
City: Verviers, Belgium
Venue: Spirit of 66
After two days off, we loaded back into Red Baron the 3rd. Stopped by the Mercedes dealership to get some electronics looked at - saw some cool cars - and headed to Verviers.
Some days you have no idea if you needed an extra day off or if you shouldn’t have had a day off... today was one of those days... I couldn’t tell if the mud was in my head, or if everything felt musically swampy. Either way, the sound was great, and the folks at Spirit of 66 enjoyed it.
It was spectacularly warm, there was a great sunset, and I got my @teenageheadmusic T-shirt!
Next stop on the Soul Shakedown?
5pm: Compact Centre (in-store acoustic)
