Sweet little @riley_yorkie... how LUCKY was I to get to know this sweet little soul! He was so full of life, so spunky and fun! A therapy dog, agility superstar, loving pup and perfect model 🐶✨ I'll treasure the photos I have of him and moments we shared on our photo adventures with his mom Deb. 🐾⠀
As many in our community have heard, Riley was attacked and killed by a small female Pitbull at the end of his walk earlier this week. A distracted woman let go of the leash, and nothing could be done in time to save him. My heart dropped and eyes filled with tears the minute I heard. 💔⠀
Riley could always bring a smile to your face with his cute personality and colorful photos 🧡 Head over to his page and leave some love & may Riley live on in our vivid memories of him forever! 🌈✨
A tribe call Happy dog. The backbone to any good company is the people that are at the core. Over the years. I have had the opportunity to work with many wonderful people. As the years pass, they go from being part of the team to people that I consider friends and family. Most of the people I started with many years ago are in a different stage of their life. Change is never easy and it is often sad and painful to close one chapter and start a new chapter with new people and new possibilities. Today, I would like to remember some of the people from pass that have contributed to our tribe. Gregory , Charles , Edson , Eduardo , and Jeffrey. Thank you for all your contributions and for being apart of my family.
My journey with the pack:
Structure is the key to a balance dog. It's fun to let their spirits run free and wild. However, life needs structure and in order to for a dog to understand how to behave calm and focus while being around other dogs, the dogs need to practice calm behaviors while in presence of other dogs. Also, please remember that improvements are not linear when it comes to dogs, there will be days where everything is being ignored and giving up is an easier option. Practice will bring pockets of improvement, which will make things easier on the dog to generalize appropriate and acceptable behaviors.
My journey with the pack: My interaction with the pack is based on daily hands on experience. As such, I see the most positive impact when I am able be a constant on a pups life. The daily adventures that they experience during the day brings joy to their day, the friends that they make and look forward to joining on their walks, the comfort and familiarity that comes from understanding each individual pups' personality is the core of how work with the pack. Without that familiarity, It is a very difficult to take the same enthusiasm and apply it to a pup that may only visit us once in a while. It is not fair for the pups in the group , on the team that needs to focus more attention on an individual pup that has limited times with us and on the actual dog has to join a different pack. For that reason, please understand that my focus is on the collective group that we see on a regular schedule. Further more , I understand that there are many options available and I am thankful for any and all enquires about my doggie program.
My journey with the pack: Just like a child at a new school, change can be an overwhelming experience. When chosing a day care or dog walker for your pup, take the time to schedule a proper introduction. The Introduction is the right place to ask all the hard questions , such as how do you introduce new dogs to the pack, how do you structure your business, what are groups like, how do you manage things when a dog is scare or uncomfortable, etc ? ... An experience service will be glad you are asking difficult questions because owners who genuinely care about their pup, usually translates into a mature client that understands their dog is an important member of the family. After the introduction is over , there should a trial run. This is just as important as the meet and greet. The trial run will give the handler, the pup and the owner a good window on how the service actually fits with your pup and your personal schedule. one final note , the service will be an extension of your pups life and the experience they have while out during the day should bring value to it's quality of life. It will be a second home for your pup.
Dog pack Chronicles: Even though my journey with Elroy start a little rocky, we have come full circle and equally mature throughout our journey. But little things became easier and this allowed me to tackle the larger issues. This last few weeks of boarding have been a reminded of how far we have come along and what a joy he is be around.
Rattlesnake Aversion Training: (LA adjacent areas) A little training goes a long way. If you know your pup enjoys hiking and he is also a very curious Individual, It would be a good idea to sign up for Rattlesnake Aversion Training. https://rattlesnakeclinic.as.me/schedule.php Spots are limited, so check the website for details.
With the overcast weather lingering throughout the week, we have been taking advantage of the perfect LA hiking weather. Quick sidenote: remember to brush and check the paws of your pup for foxtails after the hike.
