They put grates on them so that you can smell smells safely
Heron stopped to say hi so I stopped to say hi and then we took some pictures cuz that's what you do these days... Here's a poem from Heron:
"When everything is still
When you're poised and ready
You will see to the greatest depths.
There are jewels beneath the waters.
Some hard, time worn, sunken and set, lost to the world till you rediscover them. They must be pulled out, pried apart, dropped from great heights, smashed for your supper. The act of transformation successful. The pearls already traded with God. Commerce finished, goods exchanged, the market closed. You eat.
Some are soft, alive, lith and agile, you must move quickly, decisive, like an arrow from a bow to capture them, snag then in your beak and draw in their nourishment.
Sometimes you can't see anything, your movements too massive, your thoughts too scattered.
Sometimes what you'll see is yourself, reflected, mirrored, rippling with the tides.
See this projection of yourself. Rejoice. Here you are and there you are. Both of you. All of you. There are two, yet, there is only one. It is you. It is I. It is us. Standing here. Mirrored. Rippled. Alive." "Ummm..okay Heron! Whatever you say! See you later, you beautiful bird you!"
Then I rode home and Heron stayed still. I love that strange gangly bird! ❤️
