SOCIAL MEDIA || There has been a big spotlight on social networks this week due to growing concern regarding the impact that these sites have on the mental health of users (there is also a lot to be said about the responsibility of these organizations to better regulate the content shared on these platforms but that is a conversation for another day). I have experienced both the good and bad sides of social media. When it’s good, it’s great providing me with the opportunity to expand my business and networks. However, when it’s bad, its really bad having been trolled online and fallen into the self comparison trap many times.
While we can’t control what other people put online, we can control how we consume this information.
We have all heard the whole ‘unfollow anyone who makes you feel like shit’ speel right?
Well it’s probably about time that you actually do this.
The beautifully curated feeds you religiously scroll through every day are not reality. Behind that feed is a real person who (more often than not) puts hours into creating the images and captions you see.
They did not wake up like that. They woke up, had a shower, put on a face of ‘natural’ makeup and then got back into bed to take that photo...well actually, they took about a hundred photos but you only saw the best one.
Social media is probably never going to change, or at least not in the near future, so take the appropriate steps to protect yourself. Unfollow people who make you feel crap...and don’t feel bad for doing so.
I spend a lot of time on social media and regularly unfollow accounts that don’t add value or positivity to my feed. It is actually really empowering!
I challenge you to take action NOW and unfollow 5 accounts (or more) that have a negative impact on you. I’ve done my 5 today 🙌🏼 Tag a friend in the comments who you’d love to see do this challenge too!

On days like this I've come to realise even 10 mins if #selfcare gives me a boost and this is the quickest draw in the #diyskincare world. A quick hydrating FACE SCRUB. 💢 HYDRATING FACIAL SCRUB💢
A basic scrub has two important ingredients. 1. An exfoliatant 2. A hydrator or emulsifying carrier oil. Essential oils or any other addictive is completely your choice!
Today we are going to pick things right from your kitchen counter to make this. 💢INGREDIENTS
a) BROWN/WHITE Sugar (i used both)
b) Honey (hydrator; is great for dry and combination skin)
c) Lemon juice - few drops (Optional; great for oily skin to remove excess sebum and dead cells: even skin tone)
d) Coconut oil: the carrier oil (Optional if you are using honey. It adds an extra boost of hydration to your skin!) 💢 How To Use
a) Mix all the above ingredients and apply on skin.
b) Gently massage onto the skin in circular motion avoiding the under-eye area.
c) Wash off with a gentle cleanser and warm water. Pat dry. 💢 Remember
a) You can switch oils to olive oil if coconut oil doesn't suit you
b) Can be made and stored in airtight container in the fridge for a week. Its preferable to make it fresh and use it.
c) Can be used upto 2 times a week for a good exfoliation. 💫Bonus: You Arent adding to plastic microwaste in the oceans which is Not Removable and highly toxic. How? Because plastic microbeads are used in Many scrubs to give you the exfoliation that you need. You are literally saving lives... and your time and money. Win win win i would say!
Important: Always do a patch test if you have sensitive skin before you try any DIY.
