  • I’m so mad right now. I’m so done with the shit that people say about fat people. I am fat. I am fat because I starved myself for fourteen years and this is how my fed, honoured and healing body looks. Do those assholes care about that? No. Have they read or educated themselves about Health at Every Size, or the actual evidence that shows that fat people live longer or cope with some illness better? No. Do they care that fat serves a purpose on the body? No. Do they care about basic human rights to not receive hate and abuse that actually does impact health? No. They just abuse and judge and joke and they have no idea. They have no idea how hard it is to be a fat person in our society. To be marginalised, scorned, denied access to healthcare, bullied, taunted, and why? Because we have more fat on our bodies. For the way we look. And the more fat, the heavier we are the worse it is. 
This is the very worst of humanity and I’m ashamed. I am glad recovery made me fat. I am glad because I know what it is to be in a marginalised group and my eyes are opened to the hate you can receive if you aren’t the right size, shape, colour, gender or sexual orientation. Well FUCK those who openly shame fat people like it’s natural. FUCK THEM because I would rather be fat and free from my eating disorder misery than be thin, accepted and part of the narrow minded and ill informed group of haters on those comments. Kiss my fat ass. 🖕🏻 •

  • When ensnared in darkness we have two choices: draw our attention to the fear or direct our focus towards the light. By doing so we renew our faith knowing relief is at hand. Occasionally, there’s little we can do to usher a change in conditions. At other times, we are forced to wrestle with the ruins of despair. Yet in those moments, we appreciate how the darkness cannot extinguish the light of our eternal being. The darkness cultivates strength of character, just as light illuminates the murkiness of night. We can experience frailty in those dark moments, unable to make sense of our situation. Yet through the darkness, we surrender to the forces of life knowing we have little control after all. It was Winston Churchill who once said: “If you’re going through hell, keep going.” We must advance through obscurity if we wish to realise the lessons contained within our experience. To retreat is to lose sight of the personal growth life seeks to instil in us. Otherwise, we will revisit the lessons in different forms until we experience them fully. Have you seen this in your own life where the same lessons keep reappearing in a different form?

  • Get ready for the Sunday Scoop! This week we are talking about self esteem and our topic is: the six pillars of self esteem. ⠀

The last time we talked about self esteem, we broke down self compassion. As a reminder,  self compassion is all about allowing yourself to treat yourself with the same kindness you treat your friends. It's about giving yourself room to make mistakes without instantly labeling yourself as a failure. It's about avoiding negative generalizations of yourself and remembering to take in the whole picture. ⠀

However, self compassion and self esteem aren't quite the same thing. Self esteem allows for us to have self compassion. But self esteem itself is made up of six distinct pillars, completely separate from self compassion. ⠀
⠀
These pillars are: ⠀
1. The Practice of Living Consciously⠀
2. The Practice of Self-Acceptance⠀
3. The Practice of Self-Responsibility⠀
4. The Practice of Self-Assertiveness⠀
5. The Practice of Living Purposefully⠀
6. The Practice of Personal Integrity⠀
⠀
Today look over that list and ask yourself “What comes to mind at each of those phrases? Do I have a good idea of what they're made up of? How do each of those practices currently exist in my life? (Or, do they exist at all?)” ⠀

  • How did you spend your Easter break?
👭
It’s Easter Monday, many are still enjoying their long weekend whilst others start what could be a long drive home
🚗 
For me, I’m wrapped up in my winter woollies as I listen to the rain on the roof & start coming down off my sugar high
🐰 
I hope you’ve been surrounded with friends, family & of course puppies
🐶 
I know that’s how I’ve spent mine
🍫 
Whilst I’ve had a gorgeous time, it also has left me feeling a little out of balance, emotionally raw & before I launch into the week ahead, Im in need of some overdue ME time
⏰ 
For me, self care isn’t all about massages, manicures & shopping for fluffy blankets (although I do love that!).
💆🏻‍♀️ It’s also about sitting in stillness, asking myself the same questions I’d ask a friend, like “how are you?”, “are you ok?” & being very open, honest & vulnerable with myself about my feelings
😃 😔 
It’s about checking in with my energy, how I’m feeling physically, mentally, emotionally & reflecting on beautiful times & also some challenging ones
📓 
Today, before I get started on my “action” list, you’ll find me on my couch, with a delicious tea in hand, reflecting on my Easter break & letting go of some of the “stuff” that came up along the way

  • Did you know that one in five people these days are affected by mental illnesses such as anxiety and depression? These days many of us are also struggling with stress and overwhelm as the pace and demands of life increase.⁣

If you'd like to improve your mental wellbeing here are 7 (proven) keys to do just that.⁣

1. Exercise Regularly: Research shows that people who exercise regularly have better mental health, reduced risk of developing mental illness and greater emotional wellbeing too.⁣
2. Practice Mindfulness: Mindfulness teaches us to unhook from unhelpful and unproductive thought patterns and behaviours. It involves learning to steady our awareness in the present moment rather than getting lost in our heads.⁣
3. Eat a Healthy Diet: Your body needs a mix of nutrients and minerals to function well, so making sure you’re eating a good diet is truly vital for mental health.⁣
4. Drink in Moderation: There are much healthier ways of dealing with difficult feelings including the other ones listed in this post.⁣
5. Practice Self-Compassion: In a report published by three German psychologists, which examined 79 studies on the link between self-compassion and well-being, they reached this conclusion: People who are kinder to themselves tend to be happier.⁣
6. Keep in Touch: We humans are social animals. We crave to feel connected and supported and to feel valued by others. Studies have shown that social connection is a vital key to good mental health.⁣
7. Do Something You Love: What activities do you love doing just for the fun of it? You know the ones you really lose yourself in? Take some time each day to do things you love and just enjoy yourself.⁣

This Easter 2019 I am literally rejoicing over HIS love like never before. And this is why... Easter 2018? I was weighed down by exhaustion, depression and anxiety. We were caring for our third child, who was about eight weeks old. Mind you, I self shamed and self guilted myself far too often because yes, our children were healthy. Yes, my husband adored me and cared me all of us the very best he could.

Nevertheless, I physically and mentally couldn’t “make myself” get up & go to our families Easter lunch. So, my husband & children celebrated with family while I stayed home... alone. Looking back, I remember thinking “They’d have more fun without me. I don’t want to have to put on a fake smile.” Today, exactly one year later, I look at pictures from that day and fat tears ball up in the inner corners of my eyes. Reflecting on those days feels SO surreal. I lived there for months. So..... If you’re where I was last Easter, please please please KNOW you are not alone. You don’t have to stay in that place. You are capable of living brighter days. Oh! And let me tell you friend, unless you’ve gone through darkness like that, YOU. HAVE. NO. IDEA. how crippling it is. Never been there? I’d bet my bottom dollar you KNOW AND LOVE people who have. .

  • My projection is my reflection. An open letter to myself. A reminder that you are not what I think you are. I am what I think you are. I think we live by example. We show each other the way, we dont tell each other the way. How do we live in love? So I'm calling myself out. I'll be the first to admit, what I learned about stupid, I learned first-hand. When I falsely identify with perfection it says more about how imperfect I am than otherwise. And sometimes it's my failures that have the most to offer my fellows. So I'm owning my scars and repurposing them for the greater good. Here's to holding space for each other, even when we annoy the shit out of each other. Here's to loving our neighbors as we love ourselves. Here's to not just walking the path, but being the path. You words are your wand, so what you say is what you’ll see - even if it’s about someone else. That’s why it’s so important to celebrate others success, milestones, and achievements. Because you’re aligning yourself with those things, too. Spend more time searching for the good - and talking about it. It’s the fastest way to manifest your desires.
