  • Today is my last day in my 20’s. Not a single ounce of me so sad about turning 30. I learned and grew SO much these last 10 years. I graduated college, I bought 2 houses, 1 had two healthy babies, I lost a child, I moved back to Minnesota, I got a new job that challenged me to do more, and yeah I got a lost in there, had some dark times... but then I finally focused on myself.. and I feel completely brand new, like who I am and where I am now is exactly where I am meant to be. #selfiesunday

A lot of people tend to believe that they have to restrict, restrict, restrict to reach their weight loss goals or to maintain a lean physique. However, pulling back from time to time is actually beneficial and advantageous to anyone’s weight loss journey.

A refeed is a deliberate increase in calories (generally carbohydrates) over a single day or multiple days. The leaner the individual, the more frequent refeeds need to be.

Physiological benefits:
* An increase in calories allows your glycogen (energy stored within the muscle) to be replenished. Glycogen is essential for performance in the gym and every day life! When dieting, glycogen stores are constantly getting depleted. So a refeed can help to temporarily elevate these levels.
* It can help your body get out of a diet-induced catabolic state. This helps prevent your body from breaking down muscle tissue and/or using protein as an energy source (gluconeogenisis).
* Most importantly, it helps to regulate hormones like leptin. Leptin is our hunger hormone that tells us when we are hungry/full. Restricting calories lowers our metabolic rate and down regulates our leptin levels, thus creating more hunger.
