you want soft lips to kiss.
but i have strong jaws and pointed teeth.
sharp enough to kill.
you want a small hand to hold.
but i have only claws.
made to draw blood.
you want a loyal follower.
but i was born to run wild.
on my own path.
you may adore me.
but know that.
love cannot tame me.
and you can never change me.
Felix Dies Natalis Roma! - Founding Of Rome
On this day in history, April 21, 753 BC, the legendary founding of Rome takes place.
The details of the founding of Rome are enshrined in myth and legend, and even in ancient times it was a matter of much debate, with Roman historians too trying to piece together their early history into a sensible narrative. The Greeks also debated much over who the Romans were, and initially there appears to have been a much belief among their historians that the Romans were Greek. Heracleides for example called Rome a "Greek city near the great sea", and possibly Rome's offering to the Treasury of the Massiliotes at Delphi, at least according to Appian, encouraged such beliefs.
In Roman mythology the city was founded by the brothers Romulus and Remus, exiled princes of Alba Longa, which had been founded centuries earlier by the son of the Trojan hero Aenas (Founder of Lavinium), Ascanius. Romulus and Remus survived by being suckled by a she-wolf (The Roman historian Livy wondered whether this was actually the name of a prostitute), and then raised by a kindly shepherd. Upon growing up, the brothers deposed the tyrant at Alba Longa, and founded a new city around the Tiber river. The two quarrelled over its construction however, and Romulus killed Remus, becoming Rome's first king and naming the city after himself.
However, the story of Rome's founding grew and evolved over time, and before this well known version of events emerged Greek and Roman historians debated over many possibilities. Archaeology does, however, confirm that a settlement existed at around the mid 8th century BC in the area. The first Romans were Latin farmers and/or shepherds, who gradually began to concentrate their scattered huts and houses together into a larger settlement, and thus Rome began to grow. Unfortunately, we cannot adequately reconstruct this so-called Early Roman period, as centuries of its history are covered in myth and uncertainty almost as much as the foundation legends themselves.
Double tap if you’re killing that Monday game 🖤🖤🖤
Weekends are always chaos for me so I actually look forward to a new week and structure. I’m ready to demolish this week and check some shit off my list
Goalsss: 1️⃣ edit and send out last week’s wedding 2️⃣ finish reading The Feather Thief 3️⃣ go on a run
Whatchu gettin done this week kittens??? Tell me bout it.
When I was in my twenties I read Clarissa Pinkola Este's book Women Who Run with the Wolves. Seeking to reconnect with the wildness within archtype - the fierce, unfettered and free essence of my being - I recently re-read her phenomenal book.
As I was purging and cleaning and organizing my new studio I unearthed a forgotten box of objects and found a pewter wolf candlestick snuffer I bought at a flea market probably a decade ago. I made a mold of it and finally cast it in resin last week. I knew the minute I pulled it from the mold that the she wolf was calling for immediate completion.
As I pulled handmade polymer clay beads and resin beads from my stash I realized I was building a personal symbol of adornment for a deeply buried piece of me. I finished the necklace, put it around my neck and literally howled in my studio. I felt silly but I was all alone. Nobody but me knew what I was doing so I howled again, this time louder. I took the necklace off and cupped the wolf in my hands, turning on Reiki and filling it with my wildness energy.
When I come to my studio I've learned to honor what comes up for me. As silly or as sad or as crazy as my instincts may seem, I simply open myself to my unique creative process. It's how I connect with my authenticity and how I discover what I need to say that day or week or month in my art.
I’m working on building some new content for you beautiful humans and I wanted to remind you : refinement is the consistent work you put in to improve something over time. Small changes are the step-stones to actualizing your goals. 👊

To all my ladies who need to hear this.
I love you
Don't keep getting blinded by empty words and false promises, however sugarcoated they may be
Maybe you’re broken pieces. Maybe you talk to yourself because you’re often alone. Maybe you spend a lot of time crying on the floor and trying to piece yourself back together. It’s the flow of life; you’re a beautiful mess and a damn beautiful creature. Let yourself feel it, sit with it, BE the mess. Feel your power and do things that move your soul. Write yourself a love letter, take yourself on a date, text your mama or your soul sistas and remember how strong you still are in your brokenness. There’s so much room for growth when we allow ourselves to come undone. Love you women 💓
🌼🌼🌼Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something, and that this thing, at whatever cost, must be attained.🌼🌼🌼

Life doesn't get easier, you become more difficult to disrupt. You realize that you don't need to be sad or angry to shift your perception. Sometimes, all you need is to just be done. You realize that holding on to the wrong things, because they are familiar, will never make them right.
