  • A walking path winds through a tunnel of bamboo in Sagano Bamboo Forest. Known not only for its sights, it is also known for its sounds. As the wind passes through the tightly packed bamboo, it creates a peaceful sound like almost nothing else. It is designated as one of the country’s “100 Soundscapes of Japan,” by the Ministry of the Environment, to encourage the local population to get out and appreciate the country’s acoustic wonders. #Kyoto #Sagano #bamboo #soundscape

  • N is for NADA. YOGA. Conscious Use of Sound. The Yoga Of Sound. TONAL, tantalising and transformative. SOUND HEALS. Chanting. MANTRA. Musical resonance. Everything has its own sound and music. Every cell sings. Frequencies, Vibrations, NADA. Want to create, heal or re-imagine? Use sound. NĀD is union. Is yoga. Is connection. With The Divine. With ourselves. With people and the world. The HYP says USE SOUND to calm the mind. It is most powerful. 🥣 Singing Bowls, Medicine Drum beats. Gongs. Chimes. And the most powerful; The Voice. So many TONES. So many words and noises and phrases. 📿🧘🏼‍♀️

.
Four types VAIKHARI, MADHYAMA, PASHYANTI, PARANADA. And it is said all forms of yoga eventually lead NADA YOGA. I like that. I like that a lot, especially with this year’s entry into SOUND PRACTICE as healing and therapy. 🧘🏼‍♀️➕🥣

Devotional, Multi-Dimensional and Deep. FULL, RICH & DEEP!! Just like I like. Sacred, Simple to Incorporate and sort of sexy!!

  • It feels really nice to do what I’ve wanted to be doing for a while now. To not pressure myself to be a singer/songwriter only because it felt like the thing to do. I hope to share these songs in a format where you can actually hear the tones that I hear in my headphones while making it.

  • Yonder Bedford Basin. I was feeling vulnerable/raw/low yesterday, but then I was lead to this beautiful spot through a hole in a fence (@salcolm.west). I am thankful that water has such a grounding effect on me and that I happen to be settled in an area that allows me to have these kinds of moments. I hope that I will never live far from the ocean.

  • Detail of 'I feel the earth move under my feet' (2019), a collaborative sculptural and sound installation with Edwina Stevens @eves.materialsound at Incinerator Gallery in March this year. Photo: Matthew Stanton @matthewrstanton.

Pine, MDF, basalt, bricks, besser blocks, cotton, mirrors, acrylic paint, adhesives, speakers, speaker wire and 40-minute soundscape (in collaboration with Edwina Stevens). Created in response to a residency at Melbourne's Living Museum of the West, the installation investigates 3 intersecting narratives of time, place and volatility specific to the site; its ancient volcanic landscape, its industrial history of women working in explosives factories and the material disintegration of its archived oral histories. Through sampling archives, sounds and objects collected and inspired by the site, the installation reconstructs an alternate audio and sculptural narrative that shifts between past and present.

  • I find myself humming a lot, so I created this piece around the bija seed syllable for the throat chakra! A bija seed syllable is a Sanskrit word that conveys energy, and doesn’t have a defineable meaning. It is written as Ham, but pronounced “hum.” My throat chakra is definitely something I have worked on strengthening a lot. Working with my teacher, @LianaShanti, has helped me set boundaries, love myself deeper, and learn that it’s ok to take up space and use my voice.

My throat chakra started strengthening when I started setting boundaries around food, my time, my family and friend relationships and work. Then I started writing several years ago, which helped me start finding my authentic voice. Now I’ve started working more with my musical voice and finding expression through that.
Strengthening my throat chakra has helped so much, because I feel safer being who I am. I am willing to speak up for myself and my truth. I don’t feel the need to lie or hide things anymore. My throat chakra feels so much more powerful now, so I will continue humming along! ~Aaralyn

  • Used an old guitar hanging bracket to put this uke up today, and it's not even heavy enough to engage the auto-locking mechanism 😅

  • Over the past 8 weeks I’ve managed to face many anxieties and tried many new things using electronic sound software. I’ve started to learn how to use @ableton Live and made my first EVER bubble concept track (I’ve never made music in my life!) I also did a thing that I’ve never done in my adult life and that is - performing live! And with so many other inspiring, like-minded women 🙌 let me know if anyone wants to hear it or give me feedback, as I would like to develop sound as installations/performances in the near future. This is my first experience with sound and in the long term, I see it being a leading element of my kinetic installations. Big thanks to @ableton and of course to @liina_music and @emilyjelectric - you were fantastic tutors! I know this is just the start of my journey developing sound as a core medium in my practice. #soundart #bubbles #music #sound #underwaterbubbles #soundscape #experimental #abletonlive #performance #installation #makemusic @yorkshire_sound_women_network

  • Fågelle @fagelle creates music where layers of noise meet pop melodies in an exploration of rhythms and the subject of power. With pedals, synthesizers and samplers, she dives into the sounds, experimenting until she finds what will come together with poetry to create a compelling song in the middle ground between sound art and pop. Her sound world consists of everything from field recordings from the Moscow subway to roaring guitars and tormented synthesizers.

In collaboration with the producer Henryk Lipp (Blue for Two, Anna von Hausswolff, Union Carbide) the ideas are grown into sound worlds, pop songs, storm clouds. From the smallest text fragments to the rolling in of the biggest thunder. With lyrics in Swedish about our current times in micro and macro-perspective and about power and powerlessness. Her music has been described as “a soft punch in the face”. Sunday September 1st Fågelle joins KOLLAPS and Coph Nia onstage @ Skjulet 🔥
