Spartan Ultra Training Day 1 - Workout 2!
Tools of the trade for tonight’s workout. I created my own workout I call Spartan Up! 5 Rounds of 13 Push-ups, 13 Assisted Pull-ups, 10 - 1:00 Sprints, 13 Single Arm Rows and 13 Bench Dips. I do the sprints in between Super Sets of the exercises. This workout kicked my butt hard! What I like about this workout is it’s challenging and it pushes me hard like a Spartan Race. After the 3rd round my body is ready to give in and my mind starts to justify that I have done enough. No sir I haven’t! Getting to play on the Beater and remind myself I’ve still got obstacle strength, even if my biceps aren’t as big and my deadlift isn’t as heavy.
Took my first real spill on my trail run yesterday and hit my knee on a rock so I’ll be resting till I can bend/straighten my leg again 🦍🦍🦍

Was I ever happy to see that finish line!
I remember being at the top of the mountain telling myself that I was happy not to have to do a second loop. I initially was going to register for the Ultra, but the category was closed when I came to sign up - As my tattoo: There's a reason for everything in life!
And never during a race have I ever wanted to give up, but I was so ice-cold during this race that the thought crossed my mind! Being one who finishes what I start, this is where (what many talk about) grit and mental toughness kicked in, 2 elements that keep being shaped and formed with every race.
I was asking myself today (after I told myself on the mountain Saturday, that this may be my last one for how much it...SUCKED) WHY? Why is it, llike childbirth, you forget the pain from the ordeal and want to saddle up again? I was going to add ego and pride to the elements that pushed me to the finish line, but no, there is a difference. If it were pride or ego, you would do it once maybe twice and move on. This stuff shapes you as a person. It forces you out of your comfort zone and builds character. It is where you realize how much more you can achieved every time. It becomes easier to deal with life and push other bounderies...it's just where the magic happens!
And let's face it, the OCR community is a great community!
I feel blessed! Blessed that I am physically and mentally capable. Blessed that I have met so many amazing people via the OCR community.
PS: the 1st video is a view of what it was like at the top of the mountain while racing on Saturday.
The 2nd video is view of the Death March, a 1.25 mile hike (out of approx 15) with an elevation gain of approx 1700 ft (out of approx 6200 ft) taken from the gondolas on Sundays race...you know, for those who had a sunny day 🙄
In all my years of racing (at this point > 15 spartan races, 6 beasts), I have never been so happy and relieved to finish. 💚🙌 I've never experienced so much pain and so much difficulty refocusing my brain to the positive. 🤯 The final accent was absolutely crushing. 💔The brochild @jistermosh started the race an hour behind us and during my race I kept wondering how he was doing, how he was feeling, how much he must hate me for pushing him to sign up for this madness 😅🤣🤷♀️ ... So there I was, doing burpees at the final obstacle (damn wet multirig) and I see my brobro!! I screamed and smiled, "JOOOSH!!!" He had caught up!! I waited for him at the finish and we embraced, both near (or at 😅😭) tear-level emotion. The photographer at the finish-- " Do you guys know each other??" 😂 So incredibly proud of my guys, of all of us, for defeating that hell of a mountain. ⛰️💪 #spartanrace#OCR#squad#stfu#wellbeback#trifectatribe#riseaboveit
The beast. Killington Vermont kicked my butt. The picture of me carrying the sandbag says it all. The elevation changes brought a whole new challenge. I enjoyed it but my joints did not! Either I had terrible form going down hills or I just wasn't trained for them.
No matter! I pushed through and crossed that finish line! Only missed one obstacle called the Tarzan. Makes me want to head back to Vermont next year and try again!

Some action pictures from last weekend!! I was kinda dumb going shirtless not gonna lie I was pretty cold especially at top mountain. This weekend was definitely surprised myself strength wise compare to last year. First time I got Tarzan (rope knots). The obstacles there so wet and slick I was hold for my life!! Now I need to focus on running hills. And congrats to @atmosephere for finishing strong (we went back and forth for awhile) getting 3rd and Sunday 1st in our age group!! NEXT IS LAKE TAHOE!!! #spartanrace#spartankillington#kilington
Well you can tell by tonight's brisk air that summAH is officially ovAH 😞 but this was a great season of races & hikes! Looking forward to pushing the envelope even further in 2020! Let's see what daddy can do!

Give this arm blaster a shot! Hit the biceps from different angles! Using a Lat pulldown bar, set it up as a low attachment and perform 10 curls with the wide grip then go immediately into shoulder width curls!!

Some days ya just don’t feel like going heavy at all.. that day was today for me.. but hey instead of skipping leg day I did a bodyweight leg day full of a ton of lunges, squats and jumps!
Simple combo of a lunge with each leg and a jump. Gets the heart rate up and burning the legs!

Who needs a new bicep killer??
On an incline bench, select a light weight and do half a curl, then come all the way down and do a full range of motion curl. I call the half and full curls! These will get your biceps screaming! Guaranteed!
