Celebrating my brown skin was never an easy journey. Growing up in India, the fear of getting darker & somehow that making me less desirable was engrained into the culture and everyone’s mind that it was hard to not let it affect my thought process as a young girl. That’s why photos like these where I spent a whole day shooting in the scorching sun light mean so much to me. I used to never step out in the sun in the summer due to not wanting to get darker...what a mental prison to be in. My skin gets very pale in the winter, but I also tan very quickly in the summer. I’d get praised for my beautiful fair skin some months, and looked down on the rest of the time for getting tanner. Being on this journey of embracing the magic of the rich melanin in my skin, and having thousands of you reach out to say that I help you do the same has been absolutely life changing for me. So, next time you hear someone say something like “don’t go in the sun, you’ll get dark” or “you’re pretty for a dark girl”, educate them, stand up for yourself & the rest of us, show them how much you love your skin exactly the way it is, no matter what it may look like! 📷: @syamjithjayadevan // Jewelry: @avyacollections Makeup: @helioncosmetics galaxy eyeshadow palette & Berlin lip color Outfit: @wear.phera _____________________________________________ #styleblogger#fashionblog#fashiondiaries#fashionaddict#lookbook#lookoftheday#whatiwore#desi#mallu#indianbridal#fashionphotography#pursuitofportraits#feauturepalette#styleinspo#whatiwore#indianfashion#indianwear#lehenga#thesruthistandard#sruthijayadevan
Learning to love yourself is possibly one of the hardest things one has to do
Loving yourself doesn't mean you're perfect
It doesn't mean you're the best version of yourself just yet
It simply means you've accepted yourself with all your flaws and scars
It means you're still fighting for yourself
It means you've forgiven yourself for past mistakes
It means you're kind to yourself
It means you're trying to grow and evolve
It's to realize that you're unlike anyone else in this world
That you have a purpose for being here
There's a whole universe inside of you
Be unapologetically yourself. Always. How are you pursuing your self-love journey currently? What steps do you take daily to ensure you are giving yourself the love you need? Tell me your thoughts below. I’d love to hear them 🧡✨ 📷: @prannamusic ✨Jewelry: @avyacollections ✨ Outfit: @kyraandvir ✨ Makeup: @helioncosmetics

You never know what your life may look like a year from now, so keep doing the things your soul is telling you to. Your intuition exists for a reason. Follow your intuition and listen to your gut. This will lead you to where you should go. We all feel lost in life at times...and it’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s just a reminder to look within and see where your soul feels at peace. With who it feels at peace. Think about what fills you with joy. In this crazy world, your intuition will guide you in the right path 🌻 Keep going you magical human being 💜you got this!

desi mom culture is saying that the time is 12 o’clock but it’s only 10 o’clock, that’s how all desi moms are lmao.
I just want to say thank you to all of you who constantly show me your love and support. Growing up in India for half of my life and uprooting it to come to the U.S has taken me through so many challenges. Challenges in accepting myself, loving myself and being proud of where I come from and knowing where I want to go in the future. When I started this journey on IG, I never realized how incredibly kind and supportive all of you would be. I consider myself so lucky to have you all as a part of my online family & I am so grateful that you all inspire me to become my best self every day. I hope I can do the same for you! Through all the judgement, prejudice and obstacles I face as a woman of color in this day and age, YOU are my constant reminder and source of strength to keep going and to keep doing amazing things in this world! I love y’all so much & I’m going to stop rambling before I really get in my feels 😅 Hope you all have a beautiful weekend ahead! 📷: @iampranna
I’m a firm believer that a Saree is one of the most elegant and versatile pieces of clothing in the world! 💗 Growing up, all I saw my mother and grandmother wear were stunning cotton Sarees like this that were beautiful yet breathable in the tropical Kerala weather! They also wore the occasional kanchipuram silk sarees that are literal pieces of art! 😍This one I’m wearing from @azafashions was so incredibly comfortable to wear while I was in the Philippines! I paired it with a simple red bandeau crop top I had with me & a statement necklace and handbag ☀️🌴 I love that a Saree can be super formal if you need it to, but also super casual and simple! What do you think of this look? Should I style more Saree looks for you?! ☺️

Hi lovelies! If there is one thing I always have on hand to do my hair, it's always a good flat iron! Especially when I travel, it's so much easier to pack one hair tool that can do multiple things instead of packing all of my tools. I wanted to share with you all how I do my quick everyday hairstyle in less than 10 minutes. (AD) This is my go to hairstyle, because it's so quick, easy and when it falls out at the end of the day, it still looks super pretty! Although I love having tight curls at times, something about these face framing soft curls just accentuates the face so well. I used the new @ionathome Copper Flat Iron here from @sallybeauty ! I really like that this iron performs so well at low heat and is made of copper instead of the traditional aluminum. A lot of irons I've used in the past would have issues gliding through my long hair and would end up pulling on it and damaging it, but I love how this ones glides so smoothly. Definitely a great flat iron I would recommend if you all are looking to get a new one! What languages do you speak? What are your thoughts on speaking multiple languages? Are there any languages you’d like to learn? I’ve met a lot of people from my community that are ashamed to speak their own language. I’ve also been ridiculed for speaking my mother tongue fluently many times. However, I think it’s a beautiful thing to understand and speak many different languages and connect with our fellow human beings around the world 💗 I’m proud of being able to speak, read and write my mother tongue Malayalam. I’m also excited to be improving and learning Hangul (Korean) 🙌🏾 Tell me a language you’d like to learn in the comments below!
Almost broke my back trying to do these poses but it was worth it bc I DO IT FOR YALL 🤧🥰 Continuing my little “what to wear to a concert” series with this super comfy orange pant suit with a black crop! I actually wore this exact outfit to the BTS concert that I went to in Chicago & got stopped by so many people that told me how much they loved my outfit! This is inspired by Halsey’s outfit from the Billboards performance ☺️ I normally always wear heels and have a cute purse with my outfits, but whenever I’m out and about & have to stand for long periods of time (like at a concert) I opt for some comfy sneakers and a belt bag / fanny pack instead. What do you guys think of this outfit?! Where would you wear it to? Let me know in the comments below! #concertoutfit#btsconcert#speakyourselftour#pantsuit#dallasinfluencer#indianinfluencer#sruthijayadevan#indowestern
When something is passed down from one generation to the next, the evolution of that runs parallel to the story of those that give and receive it. We all have those precious things that our mothers or grandmothers have passed on to us. When @ridaislam, @thesandylion, @michellekhxn and I decided to collaborate, we wanted to showcase how the sari has changed over the generations for us. These are sarees that were passed down from our mothers and grandmothers. We wanted to express ourselves through these looks that catered to who we are yet connected us with where we came from. Regardless of how wearing this Sari has changed over the years, at the core of it all...it is still the same piece of fabric draped to tell the story of us. As different we are from our mothers and grandmothers, we are still the same women. We have evolved, and we may look different, but we have this thing that connects us. This unspoken, unbreakable connection. Here’s to connecting with our origins and connecting with the future. Here’s to connecting with those around us. When women support each other, incredible things happen. When artists support each other, incredible things happen. When humans support each other, incredible things happen! It is so important to uplift and empower one another. In a world full of negativity and fear, empowering and showing one another kindness is the greatest thing we can do. Loved getting creative with these badass women! Shoutout to @michellekhxn for taking these amazing photos and making the vision come to life! #womensupportwomen#desiwomen#desifashion#indianclothing#indianwear#indianethnicwear#indowestern#sruthijayadevan#desistyle#indianjewelry

This photo was taken at Bukchon Hanok Village in Seoul! Wearing a lehenga in this beautiful neighborhood that’s over 600 years old and taking in the traditional Korean culture was such a breathtaking experience. This ‘village’ or neighborhood was traditionally the residential quarter of high-ranking government officials and nobility during the Joseon Dynasty. Today, many of these operate as cultural centers, guesthouses, restaurants and tea houses, providing visitors with an opportunity to experience, learn and immerse themselves in traditional Korean culture. I saw people wearing Hanbok, the traditional Korean dresses, and some parts of it reminded me so much of a lehenga! We approached these two young women wearing the Hanbok to take photos with them and they said they were visiting from Japan! When I told them I just visited Japan as well, one of the young women said she thought I was beautiful in the lehenga, and that she had just visited India a couple months ago. It was such a wonderful mix of cultures and realizing how beautiful our world is and how there’s so much more to explore and experience out there made me so hopeful. This was definitely one of my favorite places we got to explore in Seoul! If you’re ever there, I definitely recommend going to see Hanok Village! 💕 📷: @michellekhxn

As much as I love makeup & beauty, nothing gives me as much joy as being able to style an outfit from scratch. The top/dress I’m wearing is a really cool piece from @holichicbymegha, the pants are from @anntaylor that I got ages ago, the dupatta (scarf) is actually a random piece of fabric I got from the fabric section of a grocery store, and my little handbag was thrifted! I love taking pieces from all over the place and putting them together as a cohesive, unique outfit! You never really get that when you buy a full outfit together. With desi clothes, it seems as though you can’t mix and match and you can only wear a piece once or twice, but it’s absolutely possible to recycle and reuse pieces that you never thought would go together! Growing up, I didn’t have a lot of options or choices, so my fashion and sense of style really stemmed from being able to make random pieces work together. I love pairing something that’s $5 with something that is $500...simply because fashion & style have nothing to do with what it costs, but they have everything to do with what YOU want to express through them. Don’t ever feel discouraged or unhappy because you don’t have the newest or most expensive pieces, but rather find things that work for you, your creativity and your lifestyle...and rock it with confidence! 🙌🏾
