  • UPDATE: Happy Wednesday! I am now in quarter 3 of PA school. I’m studying cardiology and pulmonology along with pharmacology and advanced clinical skills. As part of our cardio block we are taking an ECG course on ECGacademy.com which is super helpful.

Some useful books/products that are helping me tremendously this quarter are the following:

1. Pance Prep Pearls -This book is the PA school bible. I truly believe every PA student should purchase one. It is organized by organ system and breaks down each disease into the etiology, clinical manifestations, physical exam, diagnostic studies, diagnosis, and management.

2. Anki -This is a flash card application that has an algorithm embedded in it that optimizes a persons ability to retain information. I use anki to convert concepts from lecture into flash cards. After all repetition is key!

3. Picmonic- I use picmonic as a supplemental resource to help me remember difficult concepts. Picmonic is shown to help increase memory retention of high yield and most frequently tested topics.

4. Osmosis-On my PA school exams we are asked questions based on case vignettes. Using osmosis you can customize the settings to create a case based test that is focused on a specific organ system that you are learning. This is great because I can go through practice questions that are case based, allowing me to get familiar with the way questions will be asked on my exams.

5. Notability & OneNote- I use notability and OneNote everyday to take notes. They have a lot of cool features that allow me to stay organized.

  • Raise your hand if you think that dating is getting harder and you're not sure why?⁣🙋🏼‍♀️
⁣⠀
While you think it's because of dating apps and social media influences, this is not the real reason, let me explain. I've uncovered the answer to the million dollar question and I have research to back it up. ⁣⠀
⁣⠀
Having trained at Stanford I learned to think critically. If you have a hunch about something (whether it's that a certain therapy technique works or not) it's still just a hunch unless you have data to prove it. ⠀
⠀
Years ago my hunch was that more of my clients had a significant amount of relationship anxiety. I saw more avoidance as well, more fears about being vulnerable. Anxiety and avoidance go hand in hand so this makes sense to me. I wondered maybe I was seeing more anxious people in Silicon Valley where I work or is something bigger going on in the population? ⁣⠀
⁣⠀
I set out to study my hunch. The data from Attachment Theory suggests that 50% of the population are Secure. I don't know about you, but I thought this number was too high. ⁣⠀
⁣⠀
I now have data from over 25,000 people that my hunch was right. Here are my latest findings: ⠀
⁣⠀
👉🏻42% of people have an Anxious Attachment Style. This means either you are a Nervous Nora or Nick. ⁣⠀
⁣⠀
👉🏻28% of people are more Avoidant or Independent like Isabelle or Ian. ⁣⠀
⁣⠀
👉🏻6% are Confused like Connie or Chris. ⁣⠀
⁣⠀
Only 24% of people who are Secure like Sophia or Steve. ⁣Yikes! This means the majority or 76% of people are Insecure. ⁣⠀
⁣⠀
When it comes to dating and relationships my statistics explain a lot. With so many insecure people dating doesn’t just feel hard to you it is hard. It's hard because if you are anxious you are easily hurt and feel rejected. If you are avoidant you feel misunderstood and you feel vulnerable. ⠀
⁣⠀
Knowing this data, is the answer to the question, why dating and relationships are so hard. ⠀
⠀
The solution is for everyone to take responsibility for their insecurities and to work on improving themselves. If society had less insecure people imagine how much easier relationships would be. Can I get a ❤️ if you agree?
