Mindset may be most difficult pillar!  The BIRTHFIT definition of Mindset includes identifying your values and then create action around  those values from a place of love. 👉In the prenatal period, choose workouts and exercises that strengthen and empower you while keeping yourself safe and showing your incredible body (and mind) some grace!  You are now training for birth!  And remember, just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. 👉In the postpartum period, again show yourself some grace.  Give yourself time and space to heal . 💚

Let’s talk about what @birthfit isn’t.

It’s not a rush to get your pre-baby body back, because your body will never be the same after having a baby, and that’s not a bad thing.
*
It’s not a push your body to the limits to shed extra weight exercise routine because, in fact, those extra pounds are there purposely. And, thankfully, our bodies instinctually know exactly what to do and when to do it to grow your beautiful new baby.
*
BIRTHFIT is not a competition with other moms in the group to see who can lose the most weight, do the most reps, have the cutest baby, or any other way we may compare ourselves.
*
It’s not even an “exercise class” per se... so what’s the point?
*
BIRTHFIT IS a safe space to connect with other mommies who are in the trenches with you. It is unconditional, nonjudgmental, “OMG you too?” discussion designed to empower you as a new or repeat mommy.
*
It’s reconnecting with your body after 40 (give or take) weeks of constant change and relearning (and establishing in some cases) mind-body connection.
*
It’s laying down foundational and functional movement. There’s a big difference in moving and moving well.
*
BIRTHFIT has a saying that “slow is fast”, which is something I’ll need constant reminding of on this postpartum journey I’m going on for the second time. The easy thing to do would be to numb out and crush it at the gym to try to hurry my body into whatever unrealistic expectation I’ve placed on it.  Allow yourself to let go, trust the process, and move your recovering body intentionally and safely. Postpartum is forever, so why rush? ❤️ #birthfitmsp #postpartum #motherhoodtransition #stpaulmoms #minneapolismoms

  • Yesterday we were supporting a mom who is also a pediatrician. This is her third baby. Even as an experienced mom and a pediatrician, she wisely said (when she hired us) that she “Didn’t want to wear her doctor hat. She just wanted to be allowed to wear her mom hat.” 👌🏼

One of our favorite moments during yesterday’s doula visits was in the quiet, dim bedroom after the older children had left with dad. Baby is at the peak of his “fussies” at almost 6 weeks old. Mom was exhausted from the night before, baby hadn’t pooped in a while so was feeling extra cranky, and the doula was bringing mom snacks and drinks so she could breastfeed without leaving her bed. We thought it was a quick burp break in between sides. But then...THEN this new tiny boy decided to look at his mother with his huge newborn mystery-blue eyes, and SMILE. The awkward, one-corner-up-and-then-the-other, but-with unmistakeable-affection-and-connection-in those-eyes-type of REAL SMILE. Mom was over the moon and couldn’t take her eyes off him. 😌

Sometimes, just when you think you’re in the darkest, most difficult days (or nights) of parenting a newborn, that same little creature surprises you with the most profound joy you could ever feel in that moment. Sometimes it’s in precisely those tough moments that the golden ray of love just pierces right through and reminds you, whispering, “This will all be worth it.”
