Great post by @apfau breaking down some differences between DB’s, BB’s and Machines 👍🏼

Everyone wants to know which is “best” between barbells, dumbbells, and machines. I hate describing anything as the best because like most things in fitness and in life, all three have benefits.
-
Barbells are best for strength since it’s easiest to go heavy with them. Dumbbells are ok for strength too but they can be more difficult to use in lower rep ranges since it’s a struggle just to get them into the starting position. Most machines are a bit awkward to use in lower rep ranges but the right machine can be great in higher rep ranges.
-
Barbells and dumbbells help build stabilizer muscles whereas machines do all the stabilizing for you. Your range of motion is a bit more natural with barbells and dumbbells since you are not locked into a straight path. Dumbbells can be helpful if you have uneven body parts since you can work each side evenly.
-
Barbells are the most dangerous since you could hurt yourself on several exercises without a spot whereas dumbbells can be dropped if you fail. Machines are obviously the safest.
-
All three have benefits and how you utilize all three will depend on your goals. A pretty good approach is to stick with mostly barbells for strength movements and incorporate dumbbells and machines in slightly higher rep ranges
.
Let me know if you have any questions 😊

  • It’s not a religion. It’s a relationship. “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.” 1 John 3:1

  • If you’re a complete beginner relative to strength training or even someone who has been around the gym for a while, but you’ve just recently decided to begin prioritizing the achievement of measurable physical strength progress, then this simple programming tip is for you.
.
Quite often individuals reach out to us with questions regarding exercise selection and prioritization relative to getting physically stronger, and measurably so.
.
Although this tip is simple, many don’t employ it.
.
When structuring your workouts, relative to the muscle group your working, once you’re adequately warmed up, your first exercise should be one that you can load the heaviest while maintaining proper form and an overall safe execution of the lift.
.
It should come as no surprise that getting measurably stronger requires you to lift progressively heavier loads over time.
.
The selected exercise can vary for a multitude of reasons including but not limited to physical capacity, knowledge base, mobility restrictions, confidence, etc.
.
For most this will be a squat / deadlift / press variation. It might be a trap bar deadlift or a belt squat or a landmine press or even sled drags – regardless of the individual selection it should be a choice that you can load heavy and execute safely.
.
By placing this at the front of your training session relative to the muscles you’re training, you will be able to incorporate heavier loads that drive greater degrees of stress on the body which will result in further adaptations that translate to measurable strength progress!

  • “Everything that does not kill me makes me #stronger !” - so #Nietzsche said, then he went crazy, and then he died. Because these are beautiful words, but this is not true.
Everything that does not kill us at once, kills little by little, imperceptibly. Kills our #kindness and #gullibility . # Tenderness and # sincerity. # Openness, # generosity, a clear look and a soft heart ... Deception, betrayal, baseness, ingratitude, cruelty, injustice may not immediately kill. And drop by drop, drop by drop ... Sustainable, endure, the wound will heal. The scar will remain - rough skin.
And so, gradually, and you will overgrow with this skin, without noticing - how did this happen? And you can console yourself - I became stronger! Yes. But in the soul another string broke, another crystal bell subsided. Something or someone died there, in the soul, is a kind fairy or a little angel. Which were our part.
And you already know exactly how to respond to the blow. How - on a cruel word. How to give change, if necessary.
And you know exactly what can hit - just like that, for nothing. Or instead of # thanks. And you are not surprised at all. Got used to And learned to endure or defend.
But something is irretrievably lost with every blow, betrayal, disappointment. Forever it goes away and dies. And you get stronger, yes. But at the expense of other important qualities.
All that does not kill me, just does not kill right away. But makes it stronger or unfeeling? - who knows. We need less of what kills. And those who kill are also smaller. Because they are all the same - killers. Killers of other people's gentle souls and good impulses ...
