  • The last thing we did today was to visit the Basilics of Stephen one of the most beautiful churches I’ve ever been in. It’s the most important Catholic Church in all of Hungary as it contains the mummified hand of St Stephen the church’s patron and the first King of Hungary🇭🇺👑 #ststephensbasilica #ststephenofhungary #catholic #church

  • This city is so picturesque 😍 also full of unique history.. 👑
St. Stephen’s Basilica gets its name from the first King of Hungary. Ruling from 1000 until his death in 1038 AD. St Stephen’s right hand has been mummified and is kept as a viewable relic within the church.

  • Europe + Cathedrals go hand in hand. I LOVE seeing all the detailed heart and soul that goes into these historical buildings. It always reminds me to work for something bigger than myself and that nothing worth having comes easy. Everything in North America comes so fast and easy. Leaving quality, art, and character to suffer. We build sky scrapers in 2 years, some of these buildings take 800+ years to complete. Can you imagine waiting 800 years to see something come to fruition?

  • Couple fun facts about this amazing, St. Stephens Basilica... It’s Hungary’s largest church.

The bell at the top is a suspended 9 tons of iron!

Madonna was “married” in it during the filming of “Évita”. St. Stephen was Hungary’s 1st King and to show their appreciation, St. Stephen’s hand was preserved and mummified and it’s on display inside.

It’s not a basilica at all. Apparently it doesn’t have the correct form of a basilica and instead has a Greek cross floor plan.

And now you know. Regardless. It’s immense, and absolutely a showstopper to see in real life.
