  • SGM is thrilled to welcome @veritynunan 🙌🏼 Verity's art moves the viewer via challenge whilst looking to continue to simply validate her own human experience.
Primarily working with oil stick on canvas, she works within an illustrative process. Her paintings hold a language that is immediate, gestural and vulnerable.
Verity has exhibited in Australia and Italy and holds a Bachelor of Environmental Design and a Masters in Architecture.
You can see Verity’s work hanging at our Cheltenham Gallery - 14 Dissik Street - Open all long weekend #artgallery #studiogallerymelbourne

  • Nothing like stunning architecture to exhibit a piece of art. This image appeared in the latest @bellemagazineau 🙌🏼 I’m so attached to this painting titled ‘Heuga tiles, mustard feature wall and two swivel base chairs at Mills Ave’
It belongs to a recent set of paintings with the physical/emotional intent of ‘actualising’ precious (but fading) family memories. I really need to keep them real in my life and painting is the best way I know to attempt this. I’m fumbling away and loving the challenge of representational methodology and have indulged my love for writing very private letters on my linen then dousing and drowning them out with saturated, negative space. This feels beautiful to be so honest and real, those things are at last ‘spoken’ but safe and very private. I have so many questions about what is real, why does something/anything exist and if such rules do exist can I bend them to keep personal, emotional ‘matter’ alive? In this painting that happened for me and for that reason I’m very happy with it x thanks @martinfriedricharchitects once again for a stunning residence to exhibit my piece. @derek_swalwell photography ✖️#studiogallerymelbourne

  • So thrilled to welcome emerging Australian artist Adrian Smith to SGM . Adrian works across a variety of media but is best known for using oil on canvas. Often working on a large scale, his work operates in the gap between gestural abstraction and abstract expressionism, evident by the bold, gestural brushstrokes and dripping paint that exist and thrive on his canvas. Smith believes that “making marks subconsciously is the best way to create work of feeling and expression” and that his work reflects the dialogue between the artists consciousness and reality. Smith works vigorously with confidence, constantly re-evaluating and responding to colour, form, and composition, in this way he is able to discard elements that displease him. A recent finalist in the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship and very welcome addition to our Gallery. 🙌🏼#artgallery #studiogallerymelbourne
