If we felt like a burden, or if a parent didn't have the capacity to love or care for us, we can take that feeling into adulthood. Our self-worth starts at a lower baseline.
I often see this manifest in two ways. The first one is in a fairly explicit way - self-desctruction. It can encompass addictions, self-neglect and co-dependency with partners who repeat the cycle of our childhood.
The second is less recognised, but still relatively common. Seeking out achievement. Many outwardly successful people are driven by a need to fill the void that was left from childhood. They become independent and perfectionist. But they are also highly self-critical.
Achievement feels like a more culturally acceptable route to take - after all we are being strong, ambitous and driven - all values that are applauded.
But it also absolutely relentless and exhausting.
After a while the fruitlessness of it becomes too much. We become frustrated. There is a realisation that no amount of 'success' is ever going to meet the needs that weren't met in childhood. This is the point where we either go inward in denial - we keep striving, pushing and our pain comes out in conflict with others.
Or we seek help. We realise that the healing needs to happen. We need to talk about the past. We need to share the wounds we carry.
In my experience this doesn't mean that we stop achieving, far from it. It means that we lift a fog that has been restricting us. It means that we achieve the things that are truly aligned with who we are, not the things that are about our unmet needs or being seen.
We can finally flourish. x

"Entrepreneur" - this word has become synonymous with bold, creative, courageous and daring. I've struggled with seeing myself as an entrepreneur over the years for two main reasons: 1. I am not fearless. Far from it. I think about everything a million times before I take a step. Sometimes I don’t even act on ideas that I spend tons of time researching and that have some real market potential. 2. I have failed A LOT. To say I have failed is an understatement. I have a long list of disappointing non-starts. Most of my ‘failures’ didn't even get the chance to properly fail. What kind of entrepreneur does that? I struggled very hard and worked my face off when everyone else in the world werw against me. That's why they are there where they were and I have grown up way higher than most. I am not telling you this to show off but to make you understand that when you strive for long enough, when you are success hungry, you can achieve big things even when everyone else is against you.

Yesterday was spent in Sacred Space and Ceremony fully diving deep into anything that is showing up in life, relationships, health or business that isn't serving us for our highest good.
We meditated, visualised, danced around, awakened Kundalini energy, laughed, cried, bonded and were vulnerable enough to crack our hearts right open... because that's how the light gets in.
What kept showing up yesterday was the topic of 'giving yourself permission' to be who you truly are and live out your true desires unapologetically.
I asked the girls the question:

After a full day of sacred circles and coaching, we finished off with a private fire ceremony out in the woods, toasting marshmallows, reflecting, releasing and soaking up the vibes whilst playing all of our favourite songs. You know the old saying, grid photos of Ellie are rare and then 2 come all at once 🚌 but this was a moment very much worth commemorating. Yesterday @sophiecliff held her London leg of #Kickstart2020 and I was honoured to be on the panel alongside @vixmeldrew and @madandsadclub. The morning session was spent taking a new approach to goal-setting: FYI, you should connect your goals to FEELINGS! and the afternoon was about building confidence & a success mindset. I’ve never seen so much notebook scribbling and never had such gorgeous panel questions before - thank you @sophiecliff, it was a JOY to be part of 🌞 p.s if anyone is good with photoshop please pop Vix in, not sure where in the descending height order lineup she slots 🤔)

✨But what if I REALLY can't afford the thing I know I need right now?✨
I know I've felt this before.
I remember when I invested in my first program, which just so happened to be Bright Eyed & Blog-hearted by @rachelcmacdonald . It wasn't crazy expensive, but it still felt like a lot to ME at the time (I was living in Sydney, paying crazy rent and had no idea what 'abundant mindset' even meant 💰)
I then went on to purchase my Life Coaching training with @bycacademy . I remember feeling short of breath when I hit the 'BUY NOW' button.
All the questions swirled...
✔︎ What if it didn't work?
✔︎ What if I didn't do the work, and the money was for nothing?
✔︎ What if I didn't have what it takes to 'make it' as a Life Coach?
I was nervous, but I was also SO clear on what I wanted - and I knew it wasn't continuing to sit in my corporate desk every day. So we made the bold decision to invest some of our money in ME.
Those investments have paid themselves back THOUSANDS of times over. And I've continued to refer back to the content time & time again! ✨
I've since gone on to invest thousands in coach and course support every month (yep, you heard me!) Here's what I continue to remind myself of:
➕ Investing in your business is usually an investment that will pay itself back (many times over) and it's usually tax deductible
➕ When you consider who you want to BECOME, ask yourself - is this a decision she would make? For me, it's usually YES.
➕ If you know you don't have the money available, consider how you can reduce spending in other areas of your life. Coffee? Netflix? Eating out? If what we spend money on equates to what our priorities are, it's worth asking if they feel like they're in alignment with your future self 💜

I saw this today as I was walking up to my apartment.
I quit smoking over 13 years ago and yet today, this stupid little demon spoke to my body and my body reacted by craving it!
I hate smoking, I hate the smell and everything about it, yet it literally for a split second brought back all the wonderful memories we shared together.
Waking up together, hanging out all day and then before bed.
Cigarettes were my best friend and they calmed me like nothing ever had!
I believed the lie and they knew it and today they tried to lie to me again.
Th e feeling passed as quickly as it came, but it's a sobering reminder of how much we need God and His strength.
I needed the reminder for other areas of my life!
To remember how it was Him and His strength that set me free from that horrible addiction!
We all have something that is addicting in our lives and if you're wanting to be free of it, the only way is to figure out how to surrender it to God.
Once we fully surrender a thing, He can take control because our will decided.
It's not easy, believe me I struggle too, but decide today that you are worth more than that addiction and your health is more valuable than the lie it's telling you.
Your strength will come from Him, not from your own effort.
You are worth quitting what is holding you back!

If you want to live your dream life there is a lot of things that you have to do that you probably don’t want to do! Do it anyways! All the sacrifices will be worth it 🙌🏾 Let everybody else waste and spend their money on stupid stuff while you stay disciplined and keep that end goal in mind 🏆 If you are going to spend money make sure you spend wisely! Surround yourself with people that inspire you to be a better person, provide you with motivation to achieve your goals, empower you to make the changes you need to succeed and cheer on your success. people that make you happy and make you laugh.
When you're surrounded by good people, you're surrounded by life. You’ll find a lot more happiness in daily things. 💞
