A late but trippy personal black history month story : A few years ago after my Great grandparents passed while cleaning out the attic my Pops discovers a hidden collection of family photos and artifacts dating back hundreds of years!
We found out that we had ancestors that were free & owned land that they built a church on. They also traveled the country , and even bought the freedom of some still in bondage before the end of slavery. My Dad even got the photos displayed in a local museum! It was a proud but shocking moment to find out some of these things about my family and goes to show you how many of our family histories have been lost , distorted or hidden. Gotta cherish those that came before us throughout the generations and blazed our path to be here! ✨🙏🏾🙌🏾 #blackhistory#blackhistorymonth#superflashback#discovery#ancestors#untoldstories
This photo was taken in 1997. This was my first professional acting job. It was a musical called Pirates or Go for the Gold by Theater for the New City’s street theater company.
That was an eventful summer. I had just started writing and performing my poetry and with only 3 poems under my belt I made it to the grand slam finale at the legendary Nuyorican Poets Cafe! I lost to the one and only @yesimsarahjones!! On the night of one of those slams a dude named Israel came up to me and invited me to audition for a street theater play. I remember the audition was the next day. It was the day of the 116st festival. I went and got the part. That was the beginning of my acting career!
Tickets for my solo show Evolution of a Sonero are on sale now!! Link in bio

This is my first headshot. Taken in Los Angeles in 2002; @dominiccolon and I were in Mommas Boyz, a play written by our mentor #CandidoTirado .
The story behind this headshot is cool. I got a call from my bro @mredgardonyc regarding the preliminary casting of a film about Hector Lavoe, he thought I’d be perfect for the role of a young Hector.
Edgardo asked for a headshot which I did not have, nor could afford at the time. He paid for the shoot.
I don’t think that film was ever made.
It’s crazy that almost 20 years later I am living in Los Angeles, still acting and singing.
Thank you @mredgardonyc and everyone who’s believed in me throughout these years. #evolutionofasonero
Super flashback: me, 11ish years ago, in Honduras. Life has a funny way of teaching us what we need to learn, when we need it. I learned a lot about life in those 5 Honduran dwelling months when I was 18. Today I unpacked it on the blog.
As always, link in bio.

It feels just like yesterday when you were tiny little munchkin crawling up beside me, watching Cartoon Network, competing for the cuddles.
Almost as if in a snap, you grew up and now you ready to explore the mysteries of the world on your own and take life by its horns (while still watching Cartoon Network 😝). Fly high, battle hard, party harder, stay humble. Whatever you do, keep dreaming bigger. For, the future belongs to those who believe in their dreams.
Make it large, Dhruvil! You are gonna rock it! Power (and burritos 🌯🌯🌯) to you!
