“The life that I touch for good or ill will touch another life, and that in turn another, until who knows where the trembling stops or in what far place and time my touch will be felt. Our lives are linked together. No man is an island.
The paradox is that part of what binds us closest together as human beings and makes it true that no man is an island is the knowledge that in another way every man is an island. Because to know this is to know that not only deep in you is there a self that longs about all to be known and accepted, but that there is also such a self in me, in everyone else the world over. So when we meet as strangers, when even friends look like strangers, it is good to remember that we need each other greatly you and I, more than much of the time we dare to imagine, more than more of the time we dare to admit.
Island calls to island across the silence, and once, in trust, the real words come, a bridge is built and love is done –not sentimental, emotional love, but love that is pontifex, bridge-builder. Love that speak the holy and healing word which is: God be with you, stranger who are no stranger. I wish you well. The islands become an archipelago, a continent, become a kingdom whose name is the Kingdom of God.” | Frederick Buechner
I struggle to give my best time to friends and family because I want to paint, and when I have time and would love to take a break from painting I find that the way I’ve been “pushing” them away has hurt them just as much it hurts me when “they don’t make time for me”. Thing is I just go hard for painting- I am deeply passionate about it, and if I could I would give my best over and over again. And it’s hard to admit but I also love people, I love seeing people, but I also avoid people because I hurt when they are hurting and when they are not well, and sometimes I go in solitude not because I want to ignore them but just because their burden and my burden it’s too heavy for me to carry. I want to help as much as I can help, but I also know deep inside that they need someone Greater than I.
Thank you @artezaofficial for the art materials. Acrylic paint, canvases, paint brushes.
“There’s no time for experimentation, this is time for intentional living. No more detours, or wrong paths by this time you should already narrow down your choices in life. You should know your destination, know where you are going because you are not getting any younger. There are some friends who are not necessary at a point in your life. When you have a vision, you can be able to identify distractions. When you have a vision, it simplifies everything, because you just know what to do and what not to do. You don’t go wasting time on the wrong path. Your destiny dictates your decisions. Life becomes simple with vision. When you meet opportunities and it doesn’t resonate with your vision, it is easy to say no. You were not born to do everything. You have to get to a point where you only live for one thing. Stop living life on assumptions. Stop being busy about everything, you will never please everyone, so don’t try to be everything to everyone. Life is full of beautiful things to do but only one thing can be necessary for you to do. You become a leader when you find the thing you are supposed to master.” | Dr. Myles Munroe
Pursuing what you were born to do guarantees that you’ll meet obstacles, in fact you’ll meet more than before. Failure is inevitable, and if you fall at least fall forward. I want to tell all who struggle, that I struggle as well. Every day I face insecurities, regardless of my thousands of hours of experience, that dreading feeling of failure doesn’t go away the easy way. Even if I give my best it will not be enough and some will find it insufficient. That’s why I encourage myself, I read books that motivate me, I listen to great speakers that achieved something from nothing. It’s not easy, for me it never was. I don’t remember, (ever)to get something the easy way. But I hang on to my faith, I pray fervently and I follow the vision set before me.
@paintdrops_bydaco thank you for the amazing detail brushes!!! I absolutely love the quality. Thank you so so much.

FRIENDLY NEIGHBOURHOOD ARTIST
This was inspired by the into the spiderverse film, was incredible for so many reasons. from the step in evolution of animation as an art from, the care put into a animated film and seeing a spiderman that looked like me. This artwork was kind of a collaboration between me and the spiderman/artist Mile morales since its inspired by the artwork he created in the film, designed in real life by @okeefe_artist and @circle_persnickety
When I was younger I always wanted to be spiderman. And was even inspired by him to learn gymnastics and parkour. I never quite made it to superhero status but as spiderman always symbolised, anyone can be a hero just like anyone can be an artist.
STREET SKUNK (the lonely stoner)
This piece was a freestyle drawing inspired by listening to hip hop while sketching with no real direction, until I saw the image in vivid detail and finished sketching not really knowing what the image meant yet but I knew there was something to it. Once I had finished and had time to sit back and work out what it meant my first surface interpretation is that it was a visual love letter to marijuana and the inspiration it can bring. On deeper inspection the next interpretation was an abstract portrait of a friend inspired from an actual real life experience, painting the scene how it felt and not how it actually looked. My further interpretation was that it was about the difference in stigma between white people smoking marijuana often being classed as hippys or at worst lazy stoner burn outs. In comparison to black people smoking being seen as dangerous, feared, violent with criminal undertones. which is why the figure is painted with this solemn lonely feel, long sad eyes wide with fear, hunched over and arms awkward and nervously folded into the body. To show sometimes smoking isn't about getting high and partying or causing any kind of trouble but just to get by and cope. Which brings me to my last interpretation of coping with the anxious uncomfortable feeling of being black in a white world. which is why the contrast of the figure and background is so high, highlighting the emotion of feeling as if you're living in someone else's world and being the minority.

YELLOW IN THE BLUE
ellisld.weebly.com (Commission for the London Arts in Health Forum) This was inspired by a combination of art events I attended from a student art gallery to drama performance days. A common theme throughout the students gallery work was about colour and shapes and how they naturally emote human emotions. So I created this face using basic shapes and a range of colours. The idea of blue relating to depression inspired the bottom shoulder of the figure being all blue like a wave with a small figure drowning in it as depression can sometimes feel. But often changing your perspective on things can be a more long lasting solution to depression then medication. So I used the same small drowning figure with inverted colours on the top of the image floating, signifying that they are identical but with different perspectives. Just like shapes they can change from looking at things from different viewpoints. I used the colour yellow to signify the positivity with the negative (the blue). There being more yellow towards the top of them image and less at the bottom where its engulfed by blue. Apart from the yellow paper boat that I felt was the perfect symbol relating to the water (the blue and depression) but also keeping you afloat. relating back to the belief in changing perspective, the boat can be folded into another more positive shape like a bird, representing freedom. Despite it looking different, it is still made up of the same paper as the boat it was previously, just the perspective and shape have changed.
THE SURREAL SELF
"I get bored of seeing my own face" Is the quote from Kanye West that first inspired this piece. It got me thinking how surreal and strange it must really be to have all these videos and photos of yourself often at your worst and best being replayed over and over as a part of public record, almost taking a life of their own as people interpret them in different ways. I can only imagine the almost eerie feeling of seeing so many warped versions of yourself in a way creating a media self that takes your qualities that the public see as most entertaining and exaggerate them to eventually become a caricature of the original self. But what's interesting about Kanye is that in some ways he seems to embrace this. Kanye often talks about after hes gone, his legacy and impact on the world he'll eventually leave behind. Kanye doesn't seem to be afraid of things that other celebrities are like speaking his mind at questionable times and fear of losing his money or fame. But perhaps he embraces his fear of not being able to achieve all he can while hes here as motivation to do as much as possible, and embraces his many "media surreal Self's" as leaving behind as many pieces of himself as possible to fight his fear of being forgotten. It's not often you see an artist who's both true to their craft and hugely embrace the lime light and fame. Love him or hate him, you must admit there's a reason why he stands out.
