  • This is Gladys, our right hand here at La Espina, she’s been with us from day 1, and we just turned 5 years 💪🏼✨👏🏼. She has a degree in Communication, but found work in the fashion business and never looked back, she believes it is a more direct way to provide for her daughter. She is a single mom of a 6 year old.
Gladys is a good example of bolivian women: brave, determined and hard working.
When you purchase any of our clothing this is what you receive: strong, resilient, empowered female energy, and we can bet you can feel it when you wear them. ✨✨✨ Head over to our stories to see her and her little girl on our day to day.
.
.

  • Here’s one of my favorite things about myself: I don’t work fast. There are many times throughout the day that I catch myself being frustrated with the speed of my work, always feeling behind, and wishing it could go more quickly, wishing I could produce more, design more, create more, BE more- and being jealous of others who cultivate the appearance of constant productivity. Sometimes I so badly wish I could just rush through something, instead of laboring over every little imperfection. Sometimes I wish I could make everybody happy all the time and have restocks every day. But then, when things are finally finished and I look at what I’ve made, I realize how grateful I am for my slow pace and meticulously detailed process.
I’ve been so proud of and excited about my work lately, guys. It’s not fast, and sometimes the process is completely disorganized and messy- but the end result is always high quality, polished, and put-together. It could never be anything but, because it IS me, in a strange way. And I love that! 💛

  • I managed to get a few starts going for the garden this Spring. Every morning I take the kids over to see the new growth. They ooh and aah, try to pick a few of the delicate sprouts, and carry on. Teaching them about where their food comes from is important to me. .

  • Who made your clothes? Or, in this very case, who prototyped them and trained the tailors and cut many of the fabrics, even with hands shaking?
.
.
For our #fashionrevolution week, today we introduce the two Italians abroad, Valentina and Francesca, the “wazungu” of our production team 👭
.
.
@superfast.vale is the amazing human being that made Endelea possible in the first place: she’s the one who translates our designers’ ideas into prototypes, who creates tons of patterns and spends two weeks every year working side by side with the Tanzanian tailors to make sure that everyone is on the same page on every single stitch. We call her tenderly “the capotreno” because there’s no real job title that can describe the many things she does for us.
She loves going to concerts, hiking and eating pizza from the place just around the corner of her house. Her bold dream is keep doing the job she loves ❤️
.
.
@theporden is the very heart of Endelea, the one who has been loving Tanzania for far too many years not to create a project to give something back to this incredible Country. Just give her a smartphone and she can coordinate everything and everyone between Europe and Africa, but she’s definitely not gifted with scissors and thread 🙈
She loves traveling to new places, meeting new people and eating new food, even if her favorite remains forever pistacchio ice cream.
Her (current) bold dream? That Endelea can keep growing big and have an impact in Tanzanian people’s lives. Kila la kheri girls! 🍀

  • THE KIMREE

Happy Friday people 😀. This fabric used to be a saree which I got from a friend's mum. 😁
It is now a kimono inspired top.

Upcycling is fun and very economic. It saves money from buying super expensive clothes.. It saves the quick destruction of human kind (yes I believe its humans that will be extinct if we don't take actions now, not the planet.. The planet can recycle itself). Upcycling makes you feel good about caring for yourself and others. And making good use of items that already exist.

Stay tuned for more designs from the same saree. ☮️❤️♻️

  • I'm a blogger who was addicted to fast fashion but now I'm slowly transitioning my wardrobe to sustainable and ethical fashion. Since it's #fashionrevolutionweek I got to share this with you. I want my family and friends to be curious about the production practices and sustainability commitment of the brand. Start demanding the quality of people who make our clothes. Fashion should not harm our environment or human beings behind the clothes we wear 💚

What's Going On Here?⠀
*⠀
6 years after the #RanaPlaza clothes factory collapse in Bangladesh, which killed 1,138 people, @fash_rev have released their annual fashion Transparency Index. ⠀
*⠀
This reveals how much information the 200 biggest fashion brands disclose about their working conditions and environmental impact. 👚⠀
*⠀
Who are these guys?⠀
*⠀
In 2018, global fashion sales grew by a massive 4.5%, with consumers spending a whopping $1.7 trillion in 2018, with many of these purchases being made online. ⠀
*⠀
Fashion is a notoriously polluting industry and most of the people making our clothes still live in poverty. It's estimated that the fashion industry emits ~ 1.2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gas (around 10% of global emissions) each year. This is being made worse by next-day-delivery, leading to more delivery trucks being sent out, often half-empty. Making matters worse, fast fashion items are often worn less than 5 times, and less than 1% of clothing material is recycled into new clothing at the end of its lifespan. 👖⠀
*⠀
Why Should We Care?⠀
*⠀
This report shows that whilst transparency is improving, the average transparency is still only 21%, meaning there is still a lot of secrecy surrounding how our clothes are made. Perhaps fashion companies have something to hide. Are you comfortable about that? We're not either... 🤔⠀
*⠀
There are signs of opposition to #FastFashion, with more brands opting for sustainable materials and second-hand garments rocketing in popularity (perhaps even overtaking fast fashion by 2030). 💚⠀
*⠀
Be Curious!⠀
Check out @fash_rev this week, read the report and ask #whomademyclothes.⠀
*⠀
Before jumping on the internet for your next fashion-fueled high, think: "can I buy this second hand?". If you do decide to buy something new, check out the @ethical_consumer_magazine guide to see which brands score best! 🌎⠀
