Actually, it's more of a guidance. The concept is 80% easy/recovery - 20% hard. It's similar to polarized training. 
Even though I don't know any pro that goes easy 80% of the time, the concept is still valid: - Go really, really hard a few sessions per week
- The other sessions should allow you to recover and focus on form.

The benefit of triathlons is the opportunity to mix and match recovery sessions. 
A great example of this is with running. Running, for most athletes, is the most strenuous and stressful: - Highest orthopaedic stress
- Highest heart rate
- Highest potential for injuries

What this means for most athletes is that there really isn't a truly easy running session. But the importance of going easy for leg recovery is still necessary.

One quick solution is an easy bike or swim. With a low heart rate and gentle effort, the increased blood flow will allow the hard running sessions to sink in and your body to recover before you hit the pavement with another hard run.

This is the joy of training! Go hard, really hard. Recover with easy sessions. Then go hard again.

Plus, it's a lot more enjoyable and less stressful on the body than a whole heap of hard tempo sessions.

  • Joined and started the gym today. Today I got back on weightlifting, did some skipping and rowing. Really happy I get to work out whilst here. Also this gym is awesome! I love how it isn’t over populated like the gyms in China. Which means I can never get on the squat rack. Tomorrow I have an eye test and non lifting day so It’s swimming for me! I’m excited! No one mansplaining to me at the gym unlike the gyms in China because I stick out being a foreigner so Chinese men always try to mansplain to me whatever I am doing at the gym. 😡 #gym #uk #london #workout #cherrysfatlossjourney #weightloss #swimming #weightlifting  #vacation #exercisingonholiday
