📸@edventuresofateacher: "I got tired of playing the pencil game the last 3 years of my teaching career so this year I tried something new. These tooth brush holders have been my biggest lifesaver. Each container contains 5 sharpened pencils to last them an entire week. I don’t let my students use my electric sharpener because they seem to break them all the time. This saves my sanity from the annoying noise a pencil sharpener makes and knowing that all their pencils are in one spot. I sharpen everyone’s pencils at the end of each week and just replace any pencils that have lived a full life. ✏️ "

Wow! What a transformation. My students had so much fun creating their doodle notes at the beginning of our rhetorical analysis unit.
Since this unit is so content-heavy, we spend about 2 days using direct instruction to go over the material. I break up the periods of note-taking with quick table activities that allow my students to take discussion breaks and practice using their newly acquired knowledge, but there are still a lot of notes to take.
By purposefully including doodle notes in this unit, I saw such a transformation. Most of my students enjoyed the notes. I even overheard a student say, "I'm so proud of my notes" as she took them out of her notebook. Seriously, that was one proud teacher moment.
I found that by providing my students with these simple whiteboard instructions, they were able to branch out of their comfort zone a bit more and try doodle notes with more confidence.
Teacher guilt is so real. I met with a friend today and this came up. I'm actually working on a blog post with more details into each reason, but I couldn't help myself from posting just in case someone out there needs to see this right now.
Take care of yourself and your family. You can be an amazing teacher and love what you do but still need a day or two off. You matter.

We’ve wrapped up our Solar System unit with group research on each planet using the NASA website 💫😎 Building research skills is so much fun, and at 6 and 7 years old they can do it really well! 🙌🏼📚 They then took a trip around the solar system (a stroll around the classroom where I displayed their posters 😅) to fill in their own Fact Files on each planet. Very proud of these little scientists 🤗🌌 #kidsareawesome

When your kids enjoy a bit of order as much as you do... I’ve trained them well 😂🙌🏼. Colour coding decodable manipulatives really helps to cut down on time wasting and allows kids to make as many words as possible.
I’ve had a few questions about the long vowels games/activities I shared on my stories yesterday so have shared lots more about them on my stories today! #frothinonphonics

Theodore The Unsure with my 2020 Preppies. They had their 2nd transition day with me today and we made some pretty cute lions with curly manes.
SWIPE ➡️ to see the amazing cutting by one of the boys. I wanted to speed up the process so I cut out most of the lion heads, but this one boy said “no I can do it” and did an AMAZING job! .
Along with learning about the truth of Thanksgiving, learners are beginning their journey of understand activism and what it means. We broke down the terms from the definition and where we might see activism. After, learners went and researched different movements that are happening around the world. I began to help name them so they could be more specific with their research.
Y’all, it’s amazing how hungry to learn about this kids are. Every time I am blown away by the excitement, the interest, the questions, and the spark of empowerment this topic creates. 🌿 Learners begin to see their voice matters. They get to ask questions and dive deep into topics they might have previously thought taboo or for adults only. I encourage all of us to dive deep with our learners. Allow them time to question and explore. Talk about activism, current movements, and issues that they are facing. It’s so worth the time. 🌿Next, we began discussing peaceful protest and we will dive into human rights and the six non violent principals.

My very first Market Day in Year 6 was absolutely AWESOME! With a team this fantastic, how could it not be?!? Love your organisation, enthusiasm and passion, @kelanne1978 and Shappy (@cazshaps ) You guys rock!
Without going into too much detail, Lucy has struggled with moving house. She has been more anxious and just generally unsettled and this has manifested in a variety of ways.
One of the ways we have tried to reduce her stress is by making her spaces of the house as similar to the last house as possible. Including replacing her alphabet posters in the toilet!
These posters I am currently laminating are part of our new watercolour classroom decor bundle and they are just gorgeous 😍 (they’ll also be sold separately)
I can’t wait to hear Lucy singing the alphabet song on the toilet again 😜
If you’d like a copy of these at half price just message me and I’ll let you know when they are in store... not long now!! #ridgydidgeresources#alphabetposters

Breathing through the busy days! ☮️ Sometimes I think I need this more than my students. ✌🏻 I purchased this Hoberman Sphere from @yogakidsinternational and it’s my favorite classroom management tool. If my students are having troubles joining me at the carpet quietly, I pull this out and they quickly re-focus. ✨. #teacherlife#MindfulKids

Today was our second “Homework Club” this year!!! My kids loveeeee taking “homework” home so that they have something to do in the evenings. Every afternoon I lay out some different activities they can take home (totally optional) and if they bring back completed homework their name goes in a draw. Every Friday one name is chosen and gets added to the “Homework Club!” When it gets to 6 students, we have a special lunch together!! I might bring them a little treat too 🙊🍩🥰 This is my new favourite thing to do in my classroom and brings sooo much excitement!

Need to challenge your students with something fun? Leave level one for for emerging students and level 2 and 3 for your students who are mastering the skill of simplifying expressions.
Pumpkin Pie day is one of my absolute favorites! We learn about why we eat pumpkin pie and who to thank for most of our Thanksgiving traditions and then we make no bake pumpkin pie. It’s was a great day!
Adaptability is ☝🏽 of 10 innate temperament traits that determine how easily or how quickly students can adjust to changes 😖. Most students thrive on the predictability of routines, but you might have a handful of students that have an extra difficult time with transitions in the classroom even with concrete routines. Having a difficult time with transitions can be a sign of anxiety.
For some students being able to transition quickly will take a long time to master. If you have a student that's having an extra difficult time, it's best to just take a step back 😎 and allow the students to join the class when they are ready. It might be a bigger distraction to go back and forth with the student to try to convince them to hurry and join the class.
How do help your students improve their adaptability?
Just a little “parent-teacher conference survival kit” that I put together for the 2 new teachers that I mentor in our district! 💗
Cause we all need some survival & celebration treats during conference week! 🎉
