  • In addition to being a teacher, I’m also a youth pastor’s wife! We had 2 Easter services tonight, and we have 4 tomorrow! I love this version of teaching and serving students. || You know I had to add my @wellscooperative Audrey earrings to my Saturday Easter outfit. Georgia decided to confuse us all and get really cold. 🤷🏼‍♀️

  • Dont you think new teachers should have a "TEACHER SHOWER", like a bridal shower or baby shower!?! You could register for flair pens, laminating pouches, school basics and Tpt products. Well until we start this trend I'll add this to my personal WISHLIST! 💸🛍🎯 Love the organization and how easy it is to change between anchor charts. Claps for @primarygraffiti 👏

  • Happy Easter!! Here’s a great Easter read! I have loved Patricia Polacco since I was a kid. Now as a teacher she is such a good example of personal narrative.
.
In Chicken Sunday, Tricia has two best friends, Winston and Stewart, whose grandma, Eula Mae, invites her to church every Sunday with fried chicken for dinner after.
.
Tricia and the boys plan to buy Eula Mae a beautiful new Easter hat in one of the store windows, but the shopkeeper mistakenly accuses them of vandalism.
.
Although the kids did not vandalize the shop, Eula Mae tells them they must do something to show the shopkeeper that they are good kids so the shopkeeper will believe that they are innocent. They decide to sell beautifully decorated Easter eggs in the shop to earn money for the bonnet and spend time in the shop.
.
This story brings in some history as the holocaust is mentioned. It also brings in culture as Tricia’s Russian heritage plays a part. This story teaches a lesson of compassion. You never know what a person is struggling with that they choose not to share with the world.

  • I want to be clear: this account is not based on the idea that we as teachers SAVE the lives of our students because they are in horrible circumstances. It’s not about being saviors to poor children. It’s not about being saviors at all.
It’s about honoring and recognizing that the work we do as educators is valuable, important and professional.
As teachers we come under fire constantly from many directions about the value or lack of value our work provides to communities.
This account is about elevating that profession back to the status it deserves to be and creating such a sense of urgency around education that it cannot be ignored any longer.
One of the most powerful ideas I was reminded of this past weekend is that it’s more often than not that the negative views or statements regarding teachers is often made by other teachers. When we speak poorly of our work or complain or blame administrators or blame families or blame colleagues or (cringe) blame kids for the difficulties we face day to day, we continue the cycle of negativity in the media and in our country surrounding what it means to teach.
Teach to change lives. Teach to save lives through empowering students AND your fellow teachers to make sustaining and lasting change in our world. Use education as a weapon against oppression. Empower yourself by taking a step back and looking at what being a teacher truly means. “Magister” in Latin. Teacher. One who creates opportunities of magic.

  • I cannot express how thankful I am for the outpouring of love, kindness, and well-wishes from all of you regarding our engagement! It’s made this experience that much more special! I mentioned this in my stories the other day but I think it’s worth repeating...romantic love has not come easy for me and at 38 years old, I’ve spent the majority of my life as an independent single gal, happy and proud of all that I’d accomplished personally and professionally, but also wondering if I’d ever find a partner to ‘do life’ with. I’ve gone on more first dates than I could ever count, would consider myself an ‘expert’ at dating/dating apps (though I loath the latter, Farmer Man and I matched on #Tinder so I guess it’s not all bad 🤷🏻‍♀️), and could add ‘professional third wheel’ to my resume! 😂 When it comes to finding the right person for me, I’d say it’s come down to 1️⃣ actively putting myself out there and meeting lots of people 2️⃣ enjoying the hobbies & activities I truly love (alone or with friends), 3️⃣ trusting my intuition when deciding whether or not to pursue a relationship with someone and deciding not to ‘settle’, and 4️⃣ a whole lotta faith that the right person would eventually come along at the right time. This last one, the ‘faith over fear’ mentality, is the most difficult but the most important when facing any personal challenge. There were certainly lots of times when this last one was a struggle for me but I’d eventually make my way back to a positive frame of mind and trust that great love was waiting for me! As I transition into this next chapter (a marriage, a move to a new state, finding a new teaching position, leaving my beloved Maine life behind), ‘faith over fear’ will continue to be my mantra! THANK YOU for being an awesome cheering section here on IG and in real life (for my family and friends who know me personally)! You guys rock!! ❤️💍🍾❤️💍🍾❤️💍🥰🥰🥰 #lifewithcraftyteacherlady .

  • Happy Easter everyone! Dessert is served! 🍫 🍓 Easy to put together and fun to plan! We each chose our favourite chocolate to include. And of course there was dipping chocolate for the strawberries too! Great way to finish a lovely dinner with friends! #dessertplatter #chocolateandfruit #easterdessert

As I was out and about yesterday running errands on my own (which is a rarity in itself), I listened to a few episodes of Jillian’s podcast, Teaching with Jillian Starr. In episode 5 called “Classroom Libraries 101,” Jillian talks about ways to organize your library, how to fund your library, and helping students pick out books without restrictions. She also talks about her own school experience when she wasn’t allowed to read certain books because they weren’t in her “green turtle” reading group bin. Remember, reading levels aren’t meant to be shared with students or parents. They are meant for teachers to use within guided reading groups. And this truth comes directly from Fountas and Pinnell. During independent reading time, students should have the freedom to pick out ANY book they want. They should be checking out the cover, reading the book jacket, previewing the first few pages of the book; not searching for the level on the spine, on the inside of the book, or their leveled bin. Please, keep the levels to yourself!

  • I love my job but I sometimes also wish that I had the ability to extend my weekend just a little longer. We spend more of our waking hours working than we do with our families and sometimes I worry that I’ll regret all the hours I put in during the week. What about you?
