  • 🌟The Day the Chairs Quit!🌟 We walked into our classroom this morning to find out that our chairs have quit! The students had to write persuasive letters to get them back. Their writing was amazing! They were so on task and they loved it! Thanks to @happywithmissh and @missbthenqt for the idea!

  • Every year, my 7th and 8th graders head to LIFT (Lifestyle Improvement for Teens), three days and three nights of breakouts and recreation (retreat style) at camp. This year, two of them agreed to teach their classmates what they learned in one of their breakouts. 🙌💙✨

  • NEW PRODUCT • GUESS THAT WORD GROWING BUNDLE •

All you have to do is get your classmate to say the large word at the top of the slide. Sounds easy enough right? Well it gets a lot harder when you can’t use the 3 bulleted words as part of your description! Students will have a blast as they work hard to describe to their classmates what the projected word on the board is. The student who is guessing the word will certainly feel the pressure while playing GUESS THAT WORD!

This is a NO PREP game! Simply open the file and you’re ready to play! There are 30 word displays in this game so each student can have a turn being in the hot seat! Have all students sitting at the carpet/their seats while the student in the hot seat stands/sits in front of the smart board with their back to it. This ensures they won’t see what word is projected.

This is a GROWING BUNDLE and a brand new GUESS THAT WORD will be added on the first of every month! Grab the ENTIRE BUNDLE now for only $2 🎃 each time a new month is added (on the 1st of each month) the price will increase $2 so don’t miss out!!! #iteach #iteachtoo #iteachfourth #elementaryteacher #teachersofig #october #fallfun #noprepactivities #teacherspayteachers #tpt #teachersfollowteachers

  • For center time, I’ve found it to be much more purposeful and beneficial when I’m clear with my expectations. One way that I do that is by doing similar activities each week. I don’t have to take the time anymore to explain how to complete an activity or play a game. I also have hung these mini posters from my Back to School Anchor Charts at each center. I laminated them so that I could write what needs to be completed that day or that week and then erase for the next set of instructions. This was Friday’s task; I like to make Friday centers extra fun with all of the assessing that we have to do. If you would like to add these to help make your center expectations a little more clear, click the link in my profile. 👉 @thelemonadestandteacher https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Back-to-School-Interactive-Anchor-Charts-4744671

  • Let’s talk my new favorite time of day—MORNING CHOICE! 💡 (Morning meeting will always be my favorite, but this is up there!) 🙌

For my first four years of teaching, students completed Spiral Geography work right after they got settled. 📝 So many of you have had similar routines but think about it—if you HAD to work immediately instead of easing into the day, would you feel inspired? Creative? Joyous? 🤔 Heck no.

When my students come in, they have five choices on the board to choose from. 👩🏻‍🏫These choices change over the course of days and are diverse—reading, drawing, building, playing a board game, etc. 🎲

I could ramble on and on about how it’s made my students calmer, happier, and more motivated in the mornings. ☺️ This new @pixbrixbuildingblocks set is also their FAVORITE! They love creating both 2D AND 3D things! 🧱

Do you do morning choice? What questions do you have about it? ⤵️

  • Pro Tip: DON'T FALL INTO THE TEACHER COMPARISON TRAP! "But why me? There are teachers who do more than me and are better than me? Her classroom is more organized than mine. Her desk is always clear. Her students transition more quietly to specials than mine. Her MAP data had more kids in the green than mine." This is a sample of what comparisons have run through my head throughout the years

Here's the thing. It's not true. You ARE a great teacher and YOU have your thing too! We, (myself included 🙋‍♀️) need to stop comparing ourselves to the teacher down the hall. That teacher comparison is only a trap that keeps us on a never ending hamster wheel of not feeling good enough, negative self talk, not feeling confident, self-doubt and feelings of unworthiness. Hello, imposter syndrome and you are not welcome here

To combat imposter syndrome in the classroom, reflect on the following:
✔Your achievements in the classroom and what got you there (Ex of achievements: remembered to submit attendance on time today, a student moved up a reading level, a student made gains in their learning, and students transitioned more efficiently from whole group to independent work)
✔What would you do in your classroom if you weren't afraid of failing yourself or your kids? How would that risk positively impact student achievement? (Ex- switch up seating in the classroom, try integrating technology into an aspect of your day, or use the textbook as a resource not as your ride or die)
✔Shift your self-talk sentence frames from "I'm not _____", "I can't ____", or "That teacher does ____ better" to "I'm proud of myself for ___", "Today was better than yesterday because ___" or "I want to try ___ and I'm going to do it ____"

Celebrate your wins, both big and small. Teaching is that hard every day. You are a teacher, NOT an imposter. Tag your teacher besties so they know that they are not the imposter, they are the REAL DEAL💚🙌

These are basic requirements for a school to function effectively!

We are told our students need improvement on their reading test scores, but the majority of CPS schools have no librarian.

While the rest of the world is focusing on mental health and self-care, our student to counselor ratio in CPS is 1,000 to 1! 🙀

Why is there always money for war, but never any funding for education? “It will be a great day when our schools get all the funding they need, and the Air Force has to hold a bake sale to buy a bomber.”” - @withlovechicago

  • This picture right here means EVERYTHING to me. Me and my baby girl survived a severe HG pregnancy! (Hyperemesis Gravidarum)
126... This is the number of Liter bags of IV fluid I had during my pregnancy.
12 weeks I wasn’t able to keep any food or water down.
40 lbs lost in 8 weeks.
4 times we visited the ER for dehydration
before I was put on In Home IV care.
6 weeks my husband had to replace my IV fluid bag 3 times a day and put a needle in my stomach daily for medication.
48 pokes in my arms for IV catheters.
1 lb away from being given a feeding tube and picc line.
I was lucky enough to start my recovery and eat again at 20 weeks pregnant! (Some women are this sick their entire pregnancy and go through Much Worse!).
Bringing these sweet angels into the world is so incredibly hard and an insane sacrifice. This was my experience, my trial. There are so many women who have gone through just as hard of things trying to have children! And it’s not always visible symptoms like HG. We have loved ones who struggle with infertility, suffer through miscarriages and child loss, battle postpartum depression or anxiety, experience life threatening deliveries, or fight for adoption. We are all in this together and I am so grateful for the people in my life who helped me through. 💕
