I’m sloooowly getting things crossed off my to-do list before I go back to school and this was one of them. ✅ I saw this idea awhile back from @truelifeimateacher and knew I wanted to try it. You smudge a little scented smelly smile on the back of a child’s hand when you are proud of them or when you want to encourage a specific behavior. I might use it to try to encourage more hands up! I do realize that this might not be appropriate for every child so I will have an alternative for them. How would you use them?
Let me know if you want me to add this tag as a Freebie in my shop.

Velcro for lifeeee! I know a lot of y’all love putting your doorbell remote in those hand sanitizer holders but I’m just not about that 😂 I love this hack for my badge because it doesn’t hang down any longer AND it’s easy to remove! If you don’t have a doorbell for classroom management yet-GO!! Also-I’m so glad I stumbled upon @alesia.troian Etsy shop a couple years ago! Her lanyards have now taken over insta and have always been my fav! See the doorbell here 👉🏼@teachcreatemotivate bit.ly/classroomTCM #teachersofinstagram#teachersfollowteachers#iteach#classroommanagement

We made it through the first two weeks and we're all still standing! 🤪 Every year I say "I swear it wasn't this bad last year!' But it was, luckily we just forget. 🙈 Everyday gets a little better as we learn and practice new routines and procedures. So new kindergarten teachers, don't worry! Give it a month or so and it becomes the BEST grade to teach!! 💜

Creating a timeline with my students is always my favorite year-long project!
It’s a great combination of social studies, writing, and collaboration skills.
I love it so much - that I decided to create a kit for you to be able to do the same easily! If you follow my store, I will be uploading it by tomorrow morning! 💗 (https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Mrs-B-First-Grade-Sarah-Barnett)
My collection of back to school books is growing and I can’t even decide which ones to read first! —-
Each one of these books has an amazing message about respecting others, being different, being kind, learning to make mistakes, feelings, fun stem actives and much more. Can’t wait to continue reading to my new littles this week!
Share your favorite read alouds with me in the comments pretty please!

The 3 in me made plans on Friday and Saturday night of this weekend. Forcing myself to REST today, because... I basically feel like I’ve been run over by a semi truck 8 times. (Cue: troll coming to tell me how lucky I am to have 3 montgs off and how they feel like they’ve been run over 9 times bc of their 24/7 no time off job 🤪)
Cheers to some rest, but also cheers to forcing myself to have a life outside of school.🤣🤣🤣 #recoveringworkaholic •
How are you resting today? I’m currently binging Mind Hunter season 2! •

Smiling because tomorrow is my birthday and I get to spend today with the people who mean the most to me!
I’m sorry I have been MIA. The first week and a half of school has been super crazy! I am so excited about this school year on a work and personal level! I am taking on more responsibilities at my school and I am starting my masters program this semester! Things are going to be hectic for a while, but it will pay off in the end!
In honor of my birthday my TPT store will be on sale through tomorrow! Everything is 15% off! #targetteacher#classroomorganization#teachersofinstagram#teachersoftpt#teachersofteacherspayteachers#iteach456#teachermom

What I love most about teaching is that there is always room for improvement, trying new things, and risk-taking. This year I’m using these graphing composition books for math. I am hoping to model how to use the grid lines to organize our work, like when learning long division. Also, these books are normally $2.50-$4 each, but I found these on clearance from @officedepot for 51 cents each! Such a steal! $15 for 30 of them!
The U-RUN is unique, shows that big goals are achievable - inspires, motivates, animates and makes fun.
The U-RUN was founded by fellow Simon Horowitz. Since then, Simon, together with Matthias Stiedl and all participants * in the Teach For Austria Community, run the entire Vienna underground once a year - all 90 kilometers - above ground. On the last 5km long section - the children's U-RUN with numerous students and teachers takes place.
Goals of the U-RUN for children: - Show children that it is possible, 5km: you can do it!
- Motivating children to set and achieve great goals for themselves
- Excite children for sports
- Connecting children from different new middle schools and districts
- Realize extraordinary goals in reality
- Involve contributors and supporters and inspire educational excitement „Each human being is unique, each with their own qualities, instincts, forms of pleasure, and desire for adventure. However, society always imposes on us a collective ways of behaving, and people never stop to wonder why they should behave like that.“ - Paulo Coelho
My goal this year is to encourage my students to read.
At library, they get to choose 2 books. I always allow them one free choice book, but I do ask them to select a book within their reading level for nightly reading.
I have tried just open ended nightly reading, and sadly most of my students aren’t readers.
Books don’t get finished, they aren’t applying reading strategies we are using, and without accountability, their reading at home hasn’t shown growth.
So I am using more rules this year. We are setting a class words read goal. I am tracking this by counting books in their level by quizzes passed on Reading Counts.
We are setting goals, but I am not punishing, only celebrating their accomplishments.
What strategies have you found that work?
Step one for me is a monthly reading log that tracks pages read.

Loving these positive affirmations. This week, take a moment to write out a few for your kiddos. Whether you are a parent or teacher - hide them in their lunch box, backpack, on their pillow, in a homework assignment, on their desk, etc. If you have older kids encourage them to do this randomly for others. Let's spread kindness and be the light in someone's bad day. Have a great weekend!
Another fab workshop. Today I was joined by Chris who made a sign for her sewing room, Katie who brought her two daughters Emily and Abigail to make a joint sign for their Nanna’s birthday and all the way from Woking, Claire and Jon came with their two daughters Hattie and Ella. Hattie had already designed her sign on her iPad so I copied the design to cut and she finished it off beautifully ❤️ Ella wanted a pig and they both completed their designs with a friendship bracelet style cord that they made. Fab day 😍 (some pics need to be posted after next week.......birthday gift!!) #painting 🎨 #workshops#personalisedsigns#lasercutting#lasercut#designer#maker#teachersofinstagram#teacher#smallbusiness#miba#bni#swansea#southwales 🏴

Found these two bargains the other week. Thinking they will make great additions to a sensory/reading corner... 🤔

This year my desk labels got a major upgrade! Thanks to Kathleen over at @misscraftymathteacher I was able to get some of the @target pocket squares! 💁🏼♀️ These labels fit PERFECTLY in those pockets! I’m also super excited because the pockets are actually sticking to the desk! 🙌🏻 I’ve tried many different kinds of tape and they have always peeled right off and I was worried about these not sticking.
I’ve had this paper cutter for years and it’s perfect for cutting nice straight lines AND saving time! If you don’t have a paper cutter this is a great one!
I love a good plan! I like creating my bulletin boards in Photoshop before printing and cutting materials. This way I can get the measurements just right and arrange the layout 50 times before I decide what works. 😂 • After I planned the layout, I printed the rules on poster paper at @walgreens. You can shop around for the best printing prices near you. Walgreens was having a 75% off sale on wall prints. Can’t beat that! • I then went to @walmart and bought a lightweight poster frame. • The banner and “Class Rules” header were cut with my Silhouette Cameo from Astrobrights paper. • The final step is to take everything to school and decorate the board. I’ll check in with the final look next week when I get to school. How do you plan your bulletin boards?
