Here’s what my whole classroom setup looks like *for now* 😆 My students already gave me input on moving a few things around and I’m sure there’s more changes we’ll make as the year progresses 💗 One thing I realized last year after going full flexible seating is that I need students to have a table space to work at for the day. This front space is our living room area where we do whole group instruction (including the small round table, black chairs, and the desks behind the futon) and for most of the rest of the day they can choose where they sit (many like to sit on the floor with lap desks or surf seats and pillows) But I like them to have a home base for the day with a table where I can put materials or have them write. Every student has a mini whiteboard that they use as a hard surface to write on when they’re sitting on the floor or in a spot that doesn’t have a table. This is my favorite setup so far with flexible seating. I’m no expert and I’m still learning new things every day about how to best serve my students, but I enjoy sharing the journey with you all ☺️❤️ #flexibleseating

Starting our #airpunctuation this week⁉️🔴 Air punctuation has been so powerful in my classroom - it’s amazing to see how well they remember their punctuation and capitalization rules after getting into the flow of this. They also start doing it for every sentence they read (literally all year without any provocation), it is such a great grammar reminder! If you haven’t tried it, I highly suggest.🤓 #wholebrainteaching#setthestagetoengage
It’s nearly time to enter the end of year recital/concert/soirée silly season.
I’m focusing on only two professional learning programs between now and end of year: QUALITY CONCERTS and RAGE MY AGE.
The sessions come with planning materials, are super affordable and a great way to complete professional development. Best of all, we come to you! •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• QUALITY CONCERTS is a big hit and the results speak for themselves at schools throughout Victoria and NSW.
I poll my new students every year, and ask them to guess my age... The good news- average age guessed was 37.21,, and I am 39 almost the big 40. The bad news- last year in the same poll I was 34,,, meaning I’ve aged 3 years in one. #Teaching

This week I’m attending curriculum training on Wired for Reading and fortunately it’s hosted at my school. During breaks and after training I’ve been popping into my room and today I finally got my alphabet hung! I taped some yarn to the wall to make sure I had a straight line all the way across because I can’t handle when things are crooked. Swipe 👈 to see the after!
Seeing all these back-to-school pics up and down my timeline reminds me of the guide we created with teachers in mind. Here’s a fun writing activity you can do with your students. The guide comes with activities you can do before, during, and after reading to make learning interesting. Word on the street is that this guide also includes discussion questions aligned with #commoncore . Reading level for @iamuniquebook is 2nd-4th grade. Tag a teacher friend you know would would love this in their classroom!
Maria Montessori placed a great emphasis on nature and nature education. Dr. Montessori felt that the outdoor environment should be an extension of the classroom. “There must be provision for the child to have contact with nature; to understand and appreciate the order, the harmony and the beauty in nature.” Maria Montessori.

My second classroom of the year is officially set up and open house was a success! So thankful for all the people that pour into my life their love and support, and for the opportunities God has blessed me with!
#grateful to have made it through summer in one piece. Thank you to my family and friends. I love you. Here’s to being another year wiser, starting a new school year, and having the opportunity to work again doing what I’m best at. #love#music#creation#teaching

Congrats LA teachers on finishing the first day of school!!! 🎉
Some folx have been asking for book recs for this time of year, so I wanted to share a few favorite community builders and SEL texts. (Too many books for a #wokebunny photo shoot, as you can see in the last picture.)
I never jump into intense social justice topics at the beginning of the year. There’s a LOT of groundwork that need to be laid in building classroom community, as well as mutual trust and respect. These are all great texts to start having conversations about identity, diversity, and how we plan on talking and interacting with each other throughout the year in a shared space. One of my favorites is using “The Important Book” for kiddos to share the important things about themselves!
