  • Can you do this fancy footwork? 🤩 Perfect for every occasion... Step sequences, choreo sequences, transitions, jump take offs and landings. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀
WHAT
———
Exercise: Pirouette toe steps
Skill Type: Steps & transitions
Difficulty: Intermediate +
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀
WHY
———
Add variety to your skating transitions
Improve jump takeoff and landing
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀
HOW
———
This exercise has a repeated rhythm, I like to think ‘cross toe toe toe cross’ or ‘cross right left right cross’ repeat. Make sure you always take small steps, keeping the heals lifted as much as possible.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀
Start/finish each sequence of toe steps with a back cross. Each toe step has a little rotation, you have three toe steps to complete one rotation. The key is to evenly spread the rotation between these three steps.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀
As you can see I demonstrate the step slowly and then gradually increase my speed, adding arm movements once I’m set. This is the same process you should go through when learning the step.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
TOP TIP
————
As always make sure you practice both directions. Tighter feet mean a faster rotation, but ensure you keep you body aligned and connected at all times. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀

  • When was the last time you tripped on your toe pics? This exercise is a fun variation to a common warmup move and a really good way to find the sweet spot of the blade to maximize speed 🙌🏻 Just please be careful of your toe pics 🙈
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀
WHAT
———
Name: Jumping forward insides
Skill Type: Skating Skills
Difficulty: Intermediate + ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
WHY
———
Increase power
Generate speed
Learn to find the sweet spot of the blade ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
HOW
———
This exercise is performed by jumping from one inside edge to the next. The key is to find the sweet spot when you land. This is where the blade will run fastest going forwards and is on the ball of the foot. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s helps to think of having your weight further back on the blade than you think when you first try this, then gradually move it closer to the ball of your foot.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Make sure you rise up on the entry of the edge and bend and press on the exit of the edge. Use your free-leg to help lift and transfer to the other foot. If you’re doing this correctly you will increase your speed with every jump.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ TOP TIP
————
Imagine you’re skating on clouds to keep the exercise really light ⛅️

  • Time to think like a cat 🐈 Cat's have an innate ability to orient itself as it falls in order to land on its feet. Just like the cat, you can learn to improve your ability to save jumps you may have fallen on. If you think that sounds good put your favourite cat emoji in the comments 😻
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀
WHAT
———
Exercise: Jump check out
Skill Type: Off-ice
Difficulty: Intermediate +
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀
WHY
———
Improve check out mechanics
Improve landing reflexes
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀
HOW
———
To do this exercise you need to jump up from two feet, cross your feet in the air, draw the arms in to your chest, and check out to your landing position.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀
Now this sounds simple, but there is a lot happening in a very short space of time. This is why it helps speed up your reflexes. It’s very important your ankles cross tight before drawing the knee up to initiate the check out (check out my H-Out video in the highlights for me help on this concept).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀
It really helps to keep your weight over the landing side (the right in my demonstration) all the way until the free-leg is fully extended behind. Make sure you hold this position for at least 3 seconds.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
TOP TIP
————
You can make this exercise more challenging by jumping from an small step to the ground.

  • Hands up if you hate it when your jumps swing and are out of control? 🙋‍♂️ Me too! Here’s the good news... YOU have the power to correct and control this common mistake 🙌🏻 Follow this workflow and always think of these key words when jumping, tall and narrow.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
WHAT
———
Exercise: Salchow workflow
Skill Type: Jumps technique
Difficulty: Intermediate +
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
WHY
———
Learn to stay tall, narrow, and connected
Understand workflow
Refine technique⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
HOW
———
I won’t breakdown all the technical points of the jump, as I want you to look at the general workflow through the different stages.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The sequence of exercises progress from the simplest to hardest. This is how you want to approach your practice, because it sets you up to succeed more than you fail 🙌🏻
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Each phase of the jump is very clear, all staying as close a possible to the barrier. The three turn, pivot, takeoff, transfer, and landing positron. As you progress through each phase make sure each remains clear and strong as the exercise speeds up.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀
Always hit the toe forwards on the takeoff, never swing or pull the front arm, always drive from the back arm and free-leg, this helps align the body correctly. The same concept applies regardless if you’re doing a single, double, triple, or quad jump.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
TOP TIP
————
Warning, I'm about to repeat myself. Jump tall and narrow please, thank you 🙏🏻

  • On a scale of 1-10 how flexible are you? 🤸‍♀️ I often like to improvise when I’m warming up, cooling down, or working on new flexibility exercises. The human body has so many hard to reach spots I think it’s important switch it up and change the angles to hit all parts of the body.

Skill Type: Off-ice
Difficulty: Beginner +
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
WHY

Improve mobility and flexibility
Warm up or cool down exercise
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
HOW
———
When following this movement flow it’s important to first ground your feet and always have your core engaged, this will help control and balance the movements. P.S. That tip works the same on the ice 😉
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The wider you set your feet the deeper the stretch. Make sure when the back is straight your really flatten off your lower back by pulling your belly button in to the spine.⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀
When the arms are extended reach all the way to the end of your finger tips. Try and incorporate your breathe with every movement. Breathing in start the movement, hold, then a nice long deep exhale at the end. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀
There’s no rush to get through the sequence, in fact the longer you hold the better, enjoy each position 😇 If you find a stiff or sore spot, stay in the spot for a little longer to help release it 😌
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
TOP TIP
————
Please NEVER force a stretch! The key to improving your flexibility and for fluid movement is to relax and take you time. I’ll be sharing more tips and tricks to help improve you flexibility in the future.

  • Comment yes or no if you’d like to improve any of the following aspects of your skating... Edge quality, speed, ice coverage, alignment, extension, stable landing positions. If you answered yes to one or more of the things on that list then you will love this exercise 🥰 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀
WHAT
———
Exercise: Serpentine landing position
Skill Type: Basic skating
Difficulty: Intermediate +
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
WHY
———
Connect hips and shoulders
Improve landing control
Learn body alignment
This list goes on....
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀
HOW
———
This exercise is skated on a continued serpentine pattern. The steps go backward crossover to landing position, then switch sides to continually repeat the sequence.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
To start with you need to focus on learning the alignment and always bringing your feet together to change side. Only start lifting your free-leg higher and adding arms when you have full understanding of the technique.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I want your body weight always leaning into the circle, keeping the hips and shoulders connected at all times. The free-leg should extend to either 5 or 7 o’clock (refer to my numerous landing position videos for more detail on this concept). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Make sure you go down down down or bend bend bend during the backcross and landing set. Then rise up to zip the feet together to change side. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
TOP TIP
————
Do this exercise focusing on being the best skater you can be, stretch, extend, and bend more than you think you need to! ⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Do you find it hard to cross your feet during you axel? One thing I can assure you is it’s very hard to practice the correct movement in the middle of the jump 🤪 That’s why I recommend working on the movements in isolation. This is exercise can and should be practiced both off and on ice 🙌🏻
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
WHAT
———
Exercise: Axel transfer
Skill Type: Off-ice
Difficulty: Beginner +
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀
WHY
———
Learn how to isolate movements
Train transfer and air position
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀
HOW
———
The goal is to recreate the desired movement pattern in isolation, moving slowly first then progressing to actual speed of movement.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀
For extra tips make sure you watch my landing position and axel takeoff videos in the highlights for alignment and step through advice.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As you pivot to your takeoff foot make sure you keep the same shoulder and hip in front, in my example it’s the left. Bend and draw the free-leg and both arms behind you. Then drive the free-leg through directly under your hip and arms close the body.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Step over to your free-leg and squeeze into a tall and tight backspin position. Make sure you keep the shoulder closed (left in my example) as you do this movement, allow for a small pivot from the takeoff foot to the step over foot.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀
TOP TIP
————
Practice in the mirror to check your movement pattern.

  • Can you do this fancy footwork? 🤩 Perfect for every occasion... Step sequences, choreo sequences, transitions, jump take offs and landings. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀
WHAT
———
Exercise: Pirouette toe steps
Skill Type: Steps & transitions
Difficulty: Intermediate +
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀
WHY
———
Add variety to your skating transitions
Improve jump takeoff and landing
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀
HOW
———
This exercise has a repeated rhythm, I like to think ‘cross toe toe toe cross’ or ‘cross right left right cross’ repeat. Make sure you always take small steps, keeping the heals lifted as much as possible.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀
Start/finish each sequence of toe steps with a back cross. Each toe step has a little rotation, you have three toe steps to complete one rotation. The key is to evenly spread the rotation between these three steps.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀
As you can see I demonstrate the step slowly and then gradually increase my speed, adding arm movements once I’m set. This is the same process you should go through when learning the step.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
TOP TIP
————
As always make sure you practice both directions. Tighter feet mean a faster rotation, but ensure you keep you body aligned and connected at all times. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀

  • Do you find it hard or easy getting low enough during your sit spin?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you answered hard, then here is your simple solution to that challenge. The reason you find it difficult is most often because you need to improve your range of motion (ROM) and strength during your basic squat and teapot ☕️ / shoot the 🦆 These two exercises will start you on your journey to getting the sit spin you always wanted 🙌🏻
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
WHAT
———
Name: Full and half squat
Skill Type: Off-ice
Difficulty: Beginner + ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
WHY
———
Improve ROM
Increase strength ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
HOW
———
Firstly pay attention to the set up I perform with my arms before performing the squat. This helps set and align the body. Make sure as you bring the arms down in front you exhale and engage your core.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Set your feet hip width apart and keep you feet flat on the floor during the squat (don’t cheat by lifting the heals). As you sit think of driving the hips back and knees forward (slightly outward towards your baby toes). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀
Keep your core strong, back as flat, and shoulders down with the arms reaching forward throughout. Stand up and repeat 10 repetitions in a row.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀
There are two variations to practice—The full squat the goes all the way down, and the half squat, stopping with the knee and hip joints both at 90 degrees.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ TOP TIP
————
The more you do this the better it gets, so use this as part of your warm up and before trying your sit spin 💪🏻 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Are you a perfectionist? This video is not ‘perfect’ and I happy to acknowledge this ☺️ Perfectionism is a good thing until it holds you back.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀
A perfectionist mindset can hold you back as you find yourself only focusing on the end result and not the process. This can lead to frustration, negative self talk, and hold you back. When you find yourself in this situation try and think the opposite of what you might usually do. Sometimes done is better than never.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Learning to skate is not a fast process and takes time. It is far more rewarding and enjoyable to embrace the process and be okay with things not being perfect 😊 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
WHAT

Exercise: Broad jump double loop
Skill Type: Off-ice
Difficulty: Intermediate +
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
WHY
———
Increase strength, power and jump height.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀
HOW
———
Please watch and practice the first two exercises in this series before attempting this more advanced progression. You will also find important information I won’t repeat here, so please watch, read, and practice to keep your technique strong and your body happy and healthy 😇 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Make sure you’re fully warmed up before doing the exercise, it uses nearly every muscle in your body at full throttle. This exercise begins with the broad jump landing directly into the double loop. The preparation for the loop is the same as the straight up (explained in detail on the previous exercise in the series).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
TOP TIP
————
Try and jump along during the broad jump and straight up without traveling during the double loop.

WHAT

Exercise: Salchow workflow
Skill Type: Jumps technique
Difficulty: Intermediate +
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
WHY
———
Learn to stay tall, narrow, and connected
Understand workflow
Refine technique⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
HOW
———
I won’t breakdown all the technical points of the jump, as I want you to look at the general workflow through the different stages.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The sequence of exercises progress from the simplest to hardest. This is how you want to approach your practice, because it sets you up to succeed more than you fail 🙌🏻
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Each phase of the jump is very clear, all staying as close a possible to the barrier. The three turn, pivot, takeoff, transfer, and landing positron. As you progress through each phase make sure each remains clear and strong as the exercise speeds up.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀
Always hit the toe forwards on the takeoff, never swing or pull the front arm, always drive from the back arm and free-leg, this helps align the body correctly. The same concept applies regardless if you’re doing a single, double, triple, or quad jump.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
TOP TIP
————
Warning, I'm about to repeat myself. Jump tall and narrow please, thank you 🙏🏻

    HOW

    TOP TIP
    ————
Warning, I'm about to repeat myself. Jump tall and narrow please, thank you 🙏🏻

We’ve all been there, there is and will always be moments in your skating that stand out. Whether it’s when you first landed your axel or getting your Biellmann spin. Ever skater will experience the wonderful sense of accomplishment that comes from all the countless hours of hard work you’ve put in 🙌🏻

I can tell you the location and year of nearly all of my personal achievements that stand out to me. As a skater, when I first landed my double axel in Swindon 🇬🇧 ice rink 2002, or my first triple toe in Kiev 🇺🇦 2003. As a coach, when I helped my first student to get their double axel in Chicago 🇺🇸 2009. Standing at the boards supporting my first skater to become a national champion in Athens 🇬🇷 2013. A skater and family I still remain close friends with years after they retired from competing, who I got to watch graduate high school this summer 😊

A memory that will always stand out to me was last year in Guildford 🇬🇧, when a student of mine, Jess, had decided to stop skating as she had to decide where to focus her time and energy, in either skating or her stage career. During Jessica’s final day on the ice and in her final lesson with me, Jess finally landed her axel clean 🎉 It was the best final skate Jess could have wished for and made me a very proud coach. Both Jess and I will share that memory forever, of how happy we were jumping for joy at 8:45 in the morning 😊🤩🤪😇 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
