This cactus hoops brings out intricate embroidery techniques that add different textures to the piece. Whenever I am creating a hoop, I try to think less about what creates balance between the textures and more about what creates harmony within. Each piece is an opportunity to bring a little harmony to the whole. Interested in learning modern embroidery, come to a workshop at @m.lovewell in Santa Ana next Saturday (Jan 25) or @makersmess in LA February 1. No experience needed for this beginner class! My friend Rhonda @hallstromhome sets the most gorgeous tables you have ever seen. She also makes gorgeous linens and I love this linen cloth with the ruffles. Isn’t it stunning?
I have known Rhonda for a couple of years and I love when her feed pops up on my phone. Her photos are so inspiring and I want to sit at her tables and join her dinner parties.
Swipe left to see a few of her amazing tablescapes and then head on over to @hallstromhome to see more.
Let’s all show Rhonda some instalove.

About 10 years ago, when I first started calling myself an artist, I was creating textile reproductions of my sons’ childhood artwork and calling the finished product KidArt. This particular piece is one I have loved ever since I made it and I’ve decided it’s time to get it framed and on the wall. Picture #1 here shows my textile reproduction alongside number three son’s original piece that he drew when he was five years old. Photo #2 is the original next to my enlargement that I would photocopy and then cut apart to use as a pattern. Photo #3 shows the cheap frame I thrifted recently, then removed the (ugly!) canvas to scavenge the wood for building a frame that would fit this piece. We don’t currently have wood clamps at our apartment so photo #4 shows how I ‘clamped’ the piece (with ribbon) as the glue dried! 😂 Photo #5 is the now mounted KidArt on its frame. #’s 6&7 show the finished back and hanger. And #8 Is a close-up of the beaded sun. I called this piece Sunrise Over the Mountains. Wool and acrylic fibers, wool fabric, and glass beads on felted wool-blend backing. #textileart#textile#textiles#kidart#kidsart#reproduction@jasonmichaelhastings
