“I have been living in Antwerp for 66 years now. I think life here is good. Life in Antwerp did change in the course of time, but I can’t say precisely why. I think people could do better in living together. They don’t get together as much as they used to and they don’t do small talks anymore, I think that’s unfortunate. If you live in an apartment building with 12 stories, nobody knows each other. 30 years ago that was completely different. Despite all this I want to stay in Antwerp for the rest of my life. When I return from vacation, I am always glad I can come back to my own city. I would never want to leave here.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • If there is one thing I love the most it is certainly finding those little details that most of us do not pay attention to. I spotted this heart note on the outside wall of Veeno. And it is true. I wonder how many people passed near it without noticing it. #aCidadeAindaAma #SmallDetails #TheCitySpeaks

  • The old port of mykonos was once a major trade hub, and acted as the central node around which settlements were established.
Now however only a few small boats use it, with the majority of sea traffic having shifted to the new port a few kilometres away.
Due to this, it has gradually taken on a more commercial character. Numerous taverns, cafes and shops have sprung up along the port, making it a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. From the evening till late at night, people flock here  to enjoy the gorgeous view of the sun setting on Aegean sea, a meal and (more than) a few drinks.
At night, the old town and port are buzzing with activity. However, in the morning hours, a sleepy haze descends upon the town. The only signs of life are the alley cats looking for food, and a few natives sitting on the steps of their houses having a cup of Greek coffee. Even the cafes are deserted, save for early morning regulars, sipping their mocha and sharing hand rolled ciggerettes.
But the port is awake. Small trucks selling home grown fruit and vegetables set up shop along the pathway. Curiously  most of them also had a few bunches of flowers for sale.I asked an old man selling gerberas alongside his produce, and he told me that most of the flowers were those they had picked from own gardens. Most of his customers were men, he said, and they considered it tradition to buy a bunch of fresh flowers to take home for their wives.

  • In the early 2000’s I would often travel the Midwest in a rental car to uncover rare Records - trips that would lead to crazy adventures deep within America’s forgotten Rust Belt communities. On one such trip @josh___dunn hipped me to some unusual Detroit graffiti and it started a whole new obsession: documenting the literally endless scribes and musings that seemed to represent the warning of the unheard and unrepresented. Whether funny, ominous or mysterious, we captured an entire archive of photos, each with an entire story to tell in themselves from Flynt, Gary, Detroit, East St.Louis etc. We had hoped to make a coffee table book at some point but never got to it, and I just found a shoebox filled with all the photos. My favorite of this lot is “better to bring a guns” - it was written huge on the offramp of I-94 into west Detroit - the author seemingly started with a simple, friendly warning to bring a gun but upon finishing decided to change it to “guns” because you’ll probably need more than one. Bonus points to “high class whore” written in lipstick outside Halo Burger. #thecityspeaks #graf
