💀🦐 Forgive the bouncy video but through the eyepiece of a dissecting scope you can spy this rather slender gent feasting happily attached to a chunk of sea liver (which itself is a big ol glomb of colonial tunicates). This guy is a caprellid, also known as a SKELETON SHRIMP. Fun fact: they are neither shrimp nor skeletons! They're a weird type of amphipod, one of the many happy types of crustaceans.
Skeleton shrimps cling to sea grass, sponges, and various other gooey things on the ocean and eat whichever protozoa or tiny worm floats along. Males are much bigger than the females, so keep your eyes out next time you're poking through the intertidal! #WhatBigGnathopodsYouHave
