Some may be wondering what Jude is up to and how he is doing... Well he is very busy these days perfecting his big brother skills! 😁 Jude will be a big brother in April 2020 to a little sister! We are so excited and shocked!
Most on this page don’t really know our story but we have suffered through years of infertility and miscarriages before Jude was born and then Jude was our miracle boy. He gave us hope that a family was possible for us. The last year and a half we have tried so hard to add to our family again but had to endure more heartbreaking miscarriages. Then again, just as Jude had, with no explanation as to why, another baby will be allowed to stay with us. She again is bringing hope to our family. ❤️ And you guys, isn’t Jude going to be the best big brother!?! I can’t even stand how excited that thought makes me!
If I’m being honest I haven’t posted much because I’m just... tired 😂 But second trimester the energy is almost back, but no promises! 😉
A letter to three year old, Brooklyn Mae 🍂 You're turning into a feisty little thing! You've been so strong willed these days, and while it proves challenging to your Daddy and I, we can't help but admire the head strong spirit and independence that is starting to blossom from your little self. You're newest phrase is "speak for yourself!". Which is always in the wrong context, and of course, as mad as you can be. It makes zero sense and it's so hard to not crack a smile every time 🤣 You're turning into really speaking for yourself and telling everyone your opinions along the way. It's wild to think just barely a year ago we were worried you would never speak to anyone besides your immediate family. Keep growing into your small but feisty self little gal ✨
This is such a common question we get, “why is my baby fighting me to go to sleep.” As a mom, it can be really frustrating and disheartening when you know your little one is tired but they won’t seem to settle into sleep and we just want to find the answer.
1. Timing is off
This can come in two forms, overtired and under tired. Being overtired is usually the most common reason a child will resist falling asleep. When a baby has stayed awake way too long for their age we miss the sleepy window. Under tired can also lead to sleep resistance and this makes a lot of sense, if your baby is no longer tired at the same time they will struggle to fall asleep. It may be that they require 15-30 minutes more of awake time in order to be tired enough to fall asleep smoothly.
Sometimes very perceptive and social babies will resist sleep because the just don’t want to miss a minute of having fun and spending time with you. Your baby may require more wind downtime before sleep and if there is lots of stimulation or visitors I would suggest moving somewhere quiet for 15 minutes before bedtime or night to have someone on one cuddle and calm time.
3. Separation Anxiety.
Most of the time you have a child who would normally fall asleep well but then you may have a week or two where falling asleep seems harder in general. This is usually the separation anxiety issue. This is often presented around 9-10-month-olds and can peak around 18 months as well. Check-in and provide comfort but try to avoid adding in new things or reactions at this point.
If you have a baby struggling with this don’t hesitate to reach out to your local Mama Coach for some support and a sleep plan.

#tbt to when the stomach flu hadn’t run rampant through our home.
The tide turned last night as Eli got sick and this stomach bug took over, now having taken down the majority of our family.
Only one remains. Will she make it out unscathed?
Only time will tell.
Happy Thursday friends. 😂

Walker is obsessed with his “yellow shoes” and sometimes we wear them with things that don’t match 😅 But they match our Chiefs colored football joggers and hoodie 🙌🏼 And what better day to wear them than GAMEDAY! 🏈❤️💛
A good clinic appointment for Isla 🙌🏻 Pacing still near enough 100% of the time but by turning off some of the unnecessary features the battery life has gone back up to 4 years.
Since we were last in August she’s only had 212 ectopics; this is significantly down from the 500 or so in 1 month that she was having. All positive. We don’t need to go back for 3 months now.
So proud of how she takes it all in her stride and smiles through it all. She was so patient having her device settings changed while the technician rang around to check with the Boston Scientific rep and then the main man Jas to make sure they were happy. Then in clinic she made herself comfy on the cardiac nurse specialist’s knee, followed by a cuddle from Dr Starling. It was nice as he was able to play with her and said, ‘there was a time I wouldn’t have dared do this with her as she was so unstable.’ They can all really see a change in her.
We also saw the geneticist. Basically there’s a lot of background activity going on, approaching different research labs to ask them to do some functional tests on Isla’s mutation. The main thing is at the moment she’s safe and stable. Yes the Mexiletine is definitely affecting her development, but it’s keeping her alive. Marathon, not a sprint.

This week, Babe and I went on a tour of local cranberry bogs and bought some fresh cranberries from one of them. Cranberries are one of my favorite fruit and I absolutely love cranberry muffins! Babe was so cute, she loved watching the berries being harvested and learned the word cranberry - only she pronounces it “ba-berry.” One of our favorite activities to do together is cooking and baking. Babe knows the drill when it comes to pouring ingredients, so I don’t give her much direction when it comes to that. I make sure everything is in Babe sized containers that she can easily hold. I tell her what each ingredient is: “these are cranberries. They need to go into the mixture.” It’s good for language development to discuss what you’re working with/doing. Sometimes, she puts her finger in the bowl and I allow it because she usually is just checking out the texture. At one point she smelled the cranberry - this is a great sensory experience! I always make sure to tell her when she can’t touch something, like the egg. Another thing I’ve taught her are the phrases “hands in your lap” if she’s sitting and “hands by your side” if she’s in her tower. This helps her from having wandering hands when I’m preparing something. For example, after she poured the egg, I wanted to make sure that she wasn’t putting her fingers in it while I was busy measuring something else out.
I showed her how to put a muffin cup in the tin and she loved filling the rest! I spooned the batter in because Babe was getting very frustrated, but she loved topping each one with a whole cranberry! My favorite part of cranberry muffins is biting into a warm whole berry!
Whenever we use the oven we teach Babe kitchen safety. One of her first words was “hot!” We tell her that the oven is hot and dangerous and that is why she needs to stay away from it. When I open it to check on the muffins, I have her touch the refrigerator and keep her hands on it until I’m done. It keeps her safe & out of the way.
We walked down the street to her grandparents house to drop off some muffins. She carried them the whole way and was so proud! I love teaching her to be kind and thoughtful. ❤️
