  • I probably did about 20 sets of squats today, trying out different forms and stances. Getting the form right for your body type will be the determining factor between whether you break your back or get an extra 4 reps in.

A lot of what I see online and with fitness trainers is that they try to push people to use this very strict competitive form which isn't very realistic for your average gym-goer. The fact is that everybody's body is different as some people have mobility issues, narrow knees, feet that point out, different bone structure etc. There isn't a one size fits all squat, so we should find a stance that feels comfortable for our bodies to complete the movement without throwing form out the window. And while some squat issues CAN be corrected through strengthening and mobility exercises, you know your body best. If despite everything you still feel discomfort somewhere, don't let anyone else tell you otherwise and squat in a position that's better for you. Don't compromise your bodily health for somebody else's version of what an ideal squat should look like.

  • I have a confession to make...

I’ve been real frustrated lately. More so than I’ve even been when it comes to my training. Between life and finishing up my masters I’ve had to become a bit more lenient with myself... And it’s been hard for me to realize that that’s okay.

  • Yesterday I dropped a dumbbell on my iPhone and smashed my home button. So I decided the dumbbells were cursed and I stuck to a barbell, bench and kettlebell today (and kept my phone far far away). The video is sped up so I could fit it all in 1 clip. Form first, speed second! You’ll get a better glute burn with a pause at the bottom and top of the hip thrust anyway. 
4 rounds of:
10 Deadlifts
10 Hip Thrusts
20 Kettlebell Swings 
Rest 30-90 sec between rounds

These exact same moves can be done with a dumbbell if you don’t have access to a barbell or kettlebell. If you don’t have a bench or have limited experience with a hip thrust then start with glute bridges on the floor. Make it harder or easier as needed - use a heavier or lighter weight, go slower or faster, add or take away rounds, add or take away rest, but most importantly DON’T DROP ANYTHING ON YOUR PHONE!!!

If you read Girl, wash your face, this one, in my opinion, is a more valuable read. Plenty of applicable takeaways and just a whole lot of real news.L. Thanks @msrachelhollis 💕 can’t wait to keep read/listening.

  • Flex it like your Bruce Lee💪🏾. One of the biggest problems I hear from ladies is their core muscles are weak but their back hurts when they do core exercises.

That's likely from doing sit-ups and crunches to work their abs and obliques, which can cause more strain and pain.🙁 We avoid doing sit-ups and instead, focus on better pain-free exercises that will build a strong core (and back), which BTW, having a strong mid-section doesn't mean you need to have a six-pack of chiseled abs.

Engaging your core is more than just “sucking it in sister”. Imagine bracing your stomach muscles like the Karate Kid, and someone is about to punch you in your gut.🥊

Healthy eating in Iceland sure has been pretty tricky. Although I’ve managed to pack some healthy & high-protein snacks for the road, it’s almost impossible to get in a fresh meal without spending a fortune. (So, we’ve definitely had to make some sacrifices while we’re here...) 😅

  • The stuff on the left is tempting. Slick marketing with the promise of quick & easy results is hard to resist.  But in the end it’s the stuff on the right that works

One of the most frustrating things about trying to lose body fat is the abundance of misinformation on “the internet” telling you what you should or shouldn’t be doing (smh).
⠀⠀
And to make matters worse, so much of this misinformation is complete and utter BS. It’s marketing gimmicks and billions of dollars in ad spend disguised as a helping hand. That REALLY frustrates me! And it should frustrate you too.
⠀⠀
If you read the infographic, and you implement the information therein, you will save time, you will save energy and you will save some of your hard earned money. You will also avoid endless frustration because you will inevitably avoid everything that doesn’t actually work.

✅ So, if you’re goal is fat loss. If you want to be leaner, stronger, healthier, happier and overall have a better quality of life… read the infographic above and make a commitment to yourself that you’re going to follow the path on the right. You owe it to yourself, because you deserve better!

  • I LOVE BEYONCÉ AS MUCH AS THE NEXT PERSON. Okay, probably more than the next person and the next next person combined. I’ve been listening to her as part of Destiny’s Child since I was 8. I own every album, know every lyric, and I have seen her in concert twice.

She is an amazing performer, and I am always in awe of what she is able to do on stage in terms of her performances. However with the release of “Homecoming” on Netflix - I do have to say, Beyoncé is not a nutrition expert and if you’re thinking of following her diet that she used to get ready for BEYCHELLA…DON’T.

In “Homecoming” Beyoncé outlines how she dieted to get stage ready for her iconic performance post-partum of the twins. In the Homecoming movie she says, “In order for me to meet my goal, I’m limiting myself to no bread, no carbs, no sugar, no dairy, no meat, no fish, no alcohol…And I’m hungry.” _
I was just left here wondering, what the hell did she eat? Air? To be fair, she said all of this while eating an apple. And apples contain carbohydrates…soooo, she was eating carbs but wasn’t aware of it.

With that being said, this diet is overly restrictive and definitely lacking in adequate micronutrients and energy. It’s going to be heavily deficient in carbohydrates and probably protein. Carbohydrates are the preferred energy source for your brain and for your muscles. Protein provides the build blocks for almost every structure in your body (muscles, skin, hair, nails, organs, etc.) The lack of animal protein will also probably cause a deficiency in vitamin B12 which is only naturally found in animal products and yeast. Vitamin B12 deficiencies can cause anemia, constipation, depression, poor memory, and neurological issues such as tingling and numbness in the hands and feet.

I haven’t even outlined the psychological effects of restrictive dieting like this. Severe restriction, as such in her diet, leads to deprivation, which leads to overeating and/or bingeing. There are also even more severe conditions from quick weight loss and extreme diet and exercise that will compromise hormonal balance and cause other problems.

All this to say, you shouldn’t follow Beyoncé’s Coachella diet.
