In 1989, Engine #7 , a rare #steamlocomotive was donated to The Historical Museum at Fort #Missoula by Champion International. For thirty years, locals and tourists alike have marveled at our Willamette Locomotive. Unfortunately, the harsh #winters and blazing #summers have battered the engine and taken off a bit of its shine.
Why is Missoula’s Engine #7 Unique?
-- Oldest known surviving Willamette Locomotive in the Nation.
-- Spent its life in our mountains and valleys, never traveling more than 80 miles from Missoula.
-- #Hollywood Movie Star when it played a leading role in the 1954 Timber Jack!
-- Only Willamette originally built to burn coal as a fuel.
-- The ONLY locomotive left from Western Lumber Co.
-- One of two surviving locomotives from #Anaconda Lumber Co. and the only one in Montana.
-- This Engine represents a once bustling industry that shaped Missoula, Montana and Western Montana!
+2 Macchinista❤️
Today in HERstory - Olive Wetzel Dennis was born. She is the “lady engineer” from Baltimore that innovated the way we ride on trains. She said, “No matter how successful a business may seem to be, it can gain even greater success if it gives consideration to the woman’s viewpoint.”

Checking Realtime Trains on my way home from the Metro Centre this afternoon I saw a VSTP light engine move booked from Craigentinny to Neville Hill. My curiosity piqued, I decided to make a break of journey at #Newcastle to see what it was. I was hoping it could be an #HST powercar being transferred between the depots, but this was just blind hope and I fully expected something more mundane.
Fortunately, my luck was in, and I was rewarded with my first, and perhaps only, kop of a #Class43 flying solo, mere weeks before they are withdrawn!

20 years of the Vereina tunnel
On November 19, 1999, after eight years of construction, the Vereina Tunnel opened in eastern Switzerland.
Connecting the Landquart – Davos Platz and the Bever – Scuol-Tarasp lines, the tunnel is 19 kilometres long and the journey through takes 18 minutes.
In 20 years, it has brought various improvements to locals, tourists, and businesses.
However, its construction had initially been opposed by some as it was feared that the tunnel would lead to increased road traffic and a decline in the Romansh language.
The tunnel was built to improve all-weather transport links in the eastern part of Canton Graubünden, as the Flüela Pass is prone to heavy snowfall and avalanches in the winter months.
The hourly regional train service between Scuol-Tarasp and Chur is also complemented by freight trains and car shuttle trains transporting road vehicles.
In 2019, an estimated 500,000 will travel through the largely single-track tunnel. The planners had assumed a volume of 400,000 vehicles a year. The increased use of the tunnel has prompted for a boost in investments on the part of the Rhaetian Railways.

In the past parenthesis of show-window design, just in this period, when I was working for an undisclosed company within the field of Fashion consumption, the fatigue of designing Christmas show windows was completed, as in the case of trains set up in various important shops in the world for which I took care of styling, design and graphic simulations about 5 or 6 years ago. Best wishes to my ex colleagues who have just finished the exhausting work this year.

#TodayinHistory : #OnThisDay in 1948, R-10 cars entered revenue service on the A line. Nicknamed the Thunderbirds because of their higher speed and acceleration capabilities, the R-10s were the first modern car that the IND purchased since it opened in 1932. The fleet featured new technical and interior amenities, including fluorescent lighting, small twin bracket-mounted fans that would be a safer alternative to the mounted ceiling fans, and a more modern braking system. Perhaps the most noticeable improvement was the velon seat coverings, a more comfortable alternative to the rattan seats commuters were used to.
These #NYTMCollection photos show the R10 cars in their early days of passenger service. A prototype R-7A car for the R-10 lives on in the Museum’s collection of vintage train cars, and R-10 car 3184 occasionally runs on Nostalgia Rides as part of the Train of Many Metals.
