Exploring Northern Thailand’s most beautiful scenery in an industrial mask. Why?

An academic has called on the government to declare a state of emergency in Chiang Mai and most of Thailand's northern provinces over 'disastrous' levels of smog.
Residents in the north are advised to stay inside air-conditioned buildings and avoid all outdoor activities as some areas of Chiang Mai recorded levels of PM2.5 - particulate matter fine enough to enter a person's bloodstream through the lungs - beyond 700 micrograms per cubic metre (µg/m³) of air.

At the time, the air quality reading was 450pcm. In Manchester UK, our air quality reading is approximately 60pcm. Anything over 100pcm is considered unhealthy and dangerous! I couldn’t breathe. It was disastrous. I also couldn’t see the beautiful mountain ranges or 20 metres in front of my face because of ‘burning season.’ Burning season is a time when the farmers burn the excess left over from their rice crops. And sadly, even when prohibited by the government they still burn because there is no other alternative to get rid of the waste material, even in 2019!
