Happy Indigenous Peoples Day.
Let’s all remember we occupy land stolen from the Multnomah people in the 19th century.
Thanksgiving is coming up, a holiday that as bakers, we have a nostalgic, yet conflicted, relationship with. Unchecked traditions are just the continuation of violence. This year we seek to change our relationship to Thanksgiving.
15% of our pie sales will be donated to Native American Rehabilitation Association. They provide education, physical and mental health services and substance abuse treatment that is culturally appropriate to American Indians, Alaska Natives and anyone in need.
We intend to engage with this so-often-forgotten part of our community in an effort to give them a helping hand and make them more visible.
So far, Oregon life has been pretty incredible. Between chasing waterfalls, having midnight campfires on the coast, and taking long drives through forests full of golden trees, I’m loving this place. It’s also super nice to actually experience a true fall for once instead of Wyoming’s usual routine of getting body slammed by Jack Frost mid-September. Anyways, I found a little place to live in Corvallis for the rest of October, so my plan is to chill here, get caught up on all my work, make some friends, and do as many super-basic fall shenanigans as imaginable. You better believe I’m ready to sip on some pumpkin spice lattes and get lost in a corn maze. Let the good times begin. This shot is from a fun journey a couple weeks ago near Mount Hood. I had the opportunity to stay in @hummingbirdmt.hood, which was an absolute dream cabin tucked away in the woods. I can’t wait to see what other adventures await me here in PNWonderland. 🌲

When you’re the photographer, it’s hard to capture family photos, especially when the other members of your family are dogs (and cats). I have about 3 photos of the 4 of us... and yes, Baya is in this photo, buried in the middle. Classic dark dog problems... zoom in and you can see her yawning of boredom... Millie always hogging the attention.
Thanks for the snap of us @bearofoats, I’ve got one more to add to my growing collecting of my lil’ fam

MOTHER + NATURE = LOVE
My mom, who's within the scene walking along the cliff edge, is doing what she did best, loving and helping her children. In this case, a quick walk down the path so I could help give perspective to this dramatic Cannon Beach scene. This is one of my favorite images I’ve ever captured. I knew it at the time when I was behind my camera, that those few frames would be special. Would be something I would treasure for a lifetime. But, little did I know that it would come quicker than I or my family would have ever expected. She passed away a few years ago and today would have been her 69th Birthday. Her loving soul, big smile and always fun and goofy personality are missed greatly and thought about often. But, on this day those memories are filled with tears and heartache. Wishing she was still here to make those unplanned walks to help with my perspective.
So, I try and celebrate her memory and life through what I do best, photography. Showcasing my mom within her favorite place in the world, the Oregon Coast. For me, it’s purely selfish. Because it gives me an opportunity to spend time with her throughout the day, on what would have been her birthday. Looking back at this image and being able to think of that special day, several years ago, when we drove down the Oregon Coast, stopping along the way to make some memories together. It gives me a sense that she’s still right here with me, along my side looking down into the heart of Cannon Beach … ’Sure Jay, I’ll walk down the path for you.’ … Although it’s been several years since that wonderful day and since she passed, she’s still helping me maintain my perspective. Thanks for listening …

THE A L P E N G L O W is back ✨ our favorite fall creation inspired by the magical red glow of Mt. Hood at sunrise and sunset — a creamy oat milk latte made with rooibos, cinnamon, cloves, star anise and topped with our chai spice. The perfect drink to warm you up from the inside out. 🍂

The best (and worst) things about the outdoors 🌱
🍃 Fresh Air
🍂 Unimpressive WiFi strength
🍃 Cute scenery
🍂 When your shoe gets untied on a hike and then your shoelaces get wet and you have to touch them to retie your shoe 😭☠️
But alas, I’m thinking about driving out for a weekend getaway, buuuut, not sure where. What would be more appealing to you: sulfur pools, big trees, big trees, big trees BUT WITH MOSS, or desert? ⛺️

WE 💛 THE COAST! 🌊 (And need your advice...) ⠀⠀ We aren’t perfect but we try our best to leave places better than we found them. On this trip, we picked up micro plastics found in the sand, kept off the fragile grasses (this is a bare patch ☝🏼), and respected wildlife and their space. But we could always do more! ⠀⠀ What are some of the ways you protect and keep beaches clean? We’d love to add more tips to our tool belt! 🤝
Two weeks ago I was exploring the beautiful state of #Oregon with my best friend and husband. Words can not describe how beautiful the landscape is. This picture was taken on the trail behind the famous Tumalo Falls in the Deschutes National Forest. Adventures like these are once in a lifetime and will always be cherished.
I don’t really post (or take for that matter) any abstract pictures often. But sharing that scene the other day reminded me of this attempt I made last year that I never quite got around to completing so I decided to give it a whirl! Blur was all done in camera (probably apparent 🙄😅)
Last weekend @logsdontlie and I hiked Yokum Ridge Trail in Oregon. Below the snowline it was green and lush with all kinds of plants and fungi that I’ve never seen before. It was overcast, but we managed to hike above the clouds for a nice view at the top.

Which one are you? A, B, C or D?
A. I spend every summer in Croatia!
B. I have been to Croatia a few times!
C. I’ve been to Croatia once!
D. I have never been to Croatia and planning to go!
This small, car-free island 🏖 is absolutely perfect for those wanting to get away from it all, seeking to spend a peaceful few days or week having a holiday in the sun. 🌞
There are a few sights on the island as well, including a number of churches 💒 from the 15th and 16th centuries. The remains of the Rector’s Palace and the ruins of a Fortress are worth a peek; there’s also a Monastery that overlooks the village of Lopud which was built in the 15th century.
It only took the four of us friends twelve years to make good on one beach trip.⠀
When we were in our twenties, we used to joke about last minute midnight drives over the coast range. (Ted always vetoed 🧓🏼😜) ⠀
Now look at us and our progeny.⠀
Once wild, faraway daydreams...now everyday life.⠀
(But honestly, re: adventures. Are you in camp A) drive to the beach at midnight just for fun or B) stay home and sleep? 😂)

A quick throwback to last weekend at Pearson Field. Cheers to these future aviators and The Rose City Women In Aviation Group. Thanks for having us! #HillsboroHeliAcademy
Never been so fooled by a fish in my entire life! Custom switch rod, big skater and a blowup that 2 guys could see from way upstream. Peeled line off a 7wt rod quicker then you could imagine 🔥🔥🔥 #tbt to a year ago 📷 @loui.alva

Hiking the Columbia River Gorge is something I’ve had on my PNW radar for ages, like ever since I discovered Pinterest a decade ago. One specific hike had stuck out to me continuously over the years and last summer I planned to complete it, which would’ve been my first ever overnight backcountry trip. Days before leaving I looked up trail alerts in the Gorge and learned that almost the entire area was still closed from a 2017 fire... checking that one off my west coast bucket list wouldn’t happen.
Fast forward to this summer, returning back to that same area on the way to Washington. I thought it being 2 years later we’d for sure get the chance to hike that trail but as we pull up to the trailhead, a large red sign was our hint that it wouldn’t happen this year either — Apparently the 2017 fire destroyed most of the trails and affected the soil in that it won’t retain moisture. Because of that, the entire area is deemed unsafe and prone to flash floods & landslides.
So will 2020 be the year I finally get to experience my bucket-list trail? I’m impatiently waiting for summer to roll around again to see if I’ll get the chance!

We use the old tried-and-true analog method to keep track of barrels. And we make our wine in the same time-honored way, staying close to traditions learned over centuries.
🌊 Be Water 🌊⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One of my favorite quotes/analogies ever. So simple yet, it is so powerful to me. Just explaining how to be adaptable to/in any situation. Relax and flow. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend” ~ Bruce Lee ⠀
Wandering the apple orchards on Sunday was the best decision I’ve made in weeks. 🍎
I can still feel the calm of sun-streaked trees, the abundance of our earth’s bounty, the joy of giggling with girlfriends, the excitement of new shapes, colors, and compositions in every corner awaiting a photograph, and my favorite part — the colorful, dreamlike drive between Portland and Mount Hood. This is my kind of self-care. 🙌 #purposefulplate#nourishdaily#followyourbliss
