Lucky Generals is back at the helm, working with the retailer's inhouse agency, and the idea builds on the same self-deprecating premise as last year's ad. Technology is great, but what happens when it goes wrong? Last time round, Alexa lost her voice; here are a few other times Alexa didn't work the way she's supposed to. Harrison Ford is the biggest name involved. (When was the last time he appeared in an ad? Has he ever?).   • "Radiant Venom". Puma has teamed up with German footwear retailer Overkill for a limited edition resurrection of its classic Venom sneaker in a new colour scheme. The agency is Berlin-based creative boutique XY. Berliners (or regular visitors to that city) will recognise that this is set not on the surface of some distant planet but in a post-apocalyptic version of Berlin itself. Those are the ruins of the city's famous TV tower landmark. In fact the agency has constructed a whole back story, in which the explorer is merely a digital avatar for that recumbent girl, the last survivor of a nuclear disaster, collecting fragments of the past to keep herself alive. Phew! All that in 60 seconds, plus Joy Division on the soundtrack!

  • "Justify Nothing". In a big headline pitch last year, Publicis won the global creative account for Mercedes-Benz with the creation of a new dedicated entity Publicis Emil. That seemed to bode ill for incumbent agencies like German independent Antoni. Well, Emil can forget about ever getting its hands on lead creative if Antoni keep putting out ads like this superb film, filmed in region-non-specific Portugal, and made in English (like the Bertha Benz spot we featured last week) but in a such a way it can be language-adapted for almost any country. It's a brilliant piece of work, emotionally rich, quirky when it needs to be and featuring a fine central performance by Irish actor David Wilmot. It even contains a set of other life lesson vignettes that can be carved out as shorter ads in their own right, like the pregnant couple and the dad in a princess dress. A lovely little film.   • "Ultra Good Inside". So a dumbbell and a skateboard meet at a party... It's clearly a sign of the times that the latest mainstream launch from Australian beer Hahn - one of the lead brands in the portfolio of local brewery giant Lion - is a mainstream low-carb beer made partly from rice so it's also gluten-free. The brief to agency Thinkerbell was to avoid the four Bs of traditional beer advertising: blokes, banter, bars and barbecues. It was all looking pleasantly surreal until the last five seconds, when at least two of those rules get broken. That's definitely two blokes at the end and it may be a kitchen but it certainly looks like a bar. Also, how are they going to keep all those guests happy with only 10 bottles of beer? And only one bowl of crisps?!?
