@gidsey here with another shot from yesterday's South Bristol wander. This is Knowle Water Tower and Reservoir. It's a Grade II listed building pearched on top of the hill at Knowle. There are some great views over the city from the streets around here. -
There were bells on a hill
But I never heard them ringing
No, I never heard them at all
Till there was you ❤❤❤

"Jurassic Cliffs of North Antrim". Whiterock Beach provides a stunning view along the cliffs of the North Coast. The white cliffs, made from limestone, formed in the Jurassic Period when the British Isles were a small group of islands in a shallow tropical sea. Similar limestone rock formations can be found further east in Ballintoy and in Murlough Bay. However, the rest of the Antrim Coast is much younger, formed in the early Palaeogene volcanism - the same activity that created most of the Antrim Plateau.
This drop forge hammer from Firth Browns stands on Brightside Lane at the entrance of one of the most industrialised areas of the U.K.. The first mention of Brightside was in the 1400’s when it was named ‘Brekesherth’. Back then several mills would have lined the River Don but it was primarily a rural setting, a few miles downstream from medieval Sheffield. Even as late as the early nineteenth century it was still predominantly rural, only beginning to industrialise in the mid 1800’s. An influx of people and industry then took hold, utilising the recently opened Sheffield and Rotherham Railway. The River Don soon became the most polluted river in Europe. The skies were grey with smoke billowing from factory chimneys. The press hammers could be heard thudding through the night in the valley. As steel producing techniques have advanced and other countries began to produce their own steel Sheffield’s world renowned dominance of the industry faded. Although manufacturing in Sheffield is still world class the amount of people employed in the industry has drastically declined. Brightside remains a heavily industrialised area but fortunately the chimneys have gone and the River Don is clean with regular sightings of kingfishers, herons and to a lesser extent, otters. There’s even talk of salmon soon being a feature of the five weirs walk once more!
