Legend has it many centuries ago stood a castle close to Aira Force. The Lord of the Castle had a daughter named Emma who was engaged to a Knight named Sir Eglamore. The knight was a famous warrior engaged in the Eastern war far, far way. On the day of his return she had fallen asleep beside the falls waiting for her true love. But when he woke her, she was so startled she fell into the deep ravine and drowned. Distraught, Sir Eglamore lived out the rest of life in a nearby cave as a hermit, unable to forgive himself. This story inspired William Wordworths poem The Somnambulist. To be featured, follow and tag us! 🏕

"That kind of beauty which is agreeable in a picture" Gilpin, 1768.
Until William Gilpin's 1768 Essay on Prints, which launched the Picturesque movement and gave modern travellers a visual language to appreciate the landscape, the Lake District was considered too wild to be beautiful. 250 years later, local artists such as @ryan.lomas are still telling that story. "I live about 5 miles away from Ullswater. Being close to the Lake District is a true pleasure. Having such rugged, beautiful landscapes on my doorstep is something I can’t put into words. Being able to share the emotion I feel when I'm taking a photo like this, if people can relate to that image and want to visit the Lakes, that's all that matters." @ryan.lomas, August 2019

The UK has some absolutely stunning locations and this is no exception. I snapped this photo at Ullswater Lake in the lake District. I was actually only photographing the landscape but the boat came along at just the right time.
