I used to think poker was mostly about being dealt a good hand. When you have one, it’s easy to be optimistic. When you don’t, it’s easy to fold. Yet there is another even more important part of the game that I have learned. The bluff. When you can bluff it doesn’t matter how good your cards are. When you can bluff it never mattered. The game isn’t about the cards, it’s about the way you play them. Yes there are times you should cut your losses, but poker does not end after one hand. You can play forever.
You do not win by having the best cards. You win by making others believe you have the best. You win by knowing you can win with whatever you have. Your attitude makes you win. Your composure does. Your faith in the next round does. You coolness in the current does. Odds say you will have good cards eventually. You will have easy wins for sure. You will also have hard wins. Unexpected wins too. And you will have crippling defeats. Sudden deaths. Tragic losses.
It was never about the cards. We cannot look to what we are dealt and roll over and accept symbols as truth. Symbols are not reality. The way you interpret them is. You create reality with your ideas. The attitude you possess will give you prosperity or poverty. Your mind must be of the former. You must practice it always. The great games of life are not played to be won, they are played to be enjoyed. The one who enjoys the most, will win the most, because they will show up the most. Odds will grant them favor. The one who accepts loss, thrives in loss, will never lose. To play is to win and no one ever loses because the laws of entropy and the universe say that we are always expanding. More is always being created. Life is not a zero sum game. You made it that way.

That colour though.
If you listen closely enough, you can hear the melt.
What are yours? Historically, even on a good day mine were, ah.. questionable. As I type this, that reality is apparent to me, laying in bed with my face in my phone! - a habit I am still determined to release.
We humans are such creatures of habit aren’t we. Eating the same food over and over, watching the same thing on tv every night, scrolling through our social media the second our eyes open. Running to our particular vices - caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, fast food, mindless entertainment, substances, disconnected sex, and all of the other self destructive behaviours that are habitual.
The thing about habits is they put us on autopilot and often end up forming addictions. However, habits are just repeated patterns of behaviour, and all behaviour is a choice. So prior to the self-sabotage of a controlling addiction, the choice is ours to form the habits that create them in the first place.
This is exactly the same for healthy habits. When you begin making *real* self care a priority, it eventually becomes habitual. Self care is not limited to the ‘mani-pedi-girls night-salon-blowout-makeover’ that all these basic bitch accounts advertise ~ It is caring for the Self. The Self is so much more than the external shell. It is in essence, YOU. Me. Us. We. Externally, Internally, Eternally.
The Self is the mind, body, will, emotions, spirit & soul.
