  • Amy @moodymixologist the inspirational Queen of Garnishes has created the fun #GarnishWeek event. I always use flowers as garnishes and wanted to do something different for the occasion. Recently Amy posted a Red Snapper Cocktail with a food pairing and using that as my inspiration I’ve made a Red Snapper with my smoked salmon food pairing as the garnish. The smoked salmon spread is a favourite in our house and it goes perfectly with tomato/Clamato drinks. Cheers! #whatskarendrinking  Red Snapper recipe by @moodymixologist and makes one serving:: - - 2 oz. Gin. - 6oz. Tomato juice. - 1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice. - 1 tsp. Mailed Mini Cornichons Classique Juice. - 1/8 tsp. Hot sauce. - pinch of black pepper.  Black pepper rim is optional.  Karen’s Smoked Salmon Dip/Spread Recipe : -  Cream cheese / Smoked Sockeye Salmon / Horseradish / Squeeze of fresh lemon juice / Capers. -  I used @gonecrackers because they stay firm and don’t break with toppings...and they’re delicious.

  • ✨✨✨PISCO SOUR✨✨✨ I finally got my first bottle of Pisco and had my first Pisco Sour...and I loved it. Pisco is a colourless to yellowish coloured Brandy produced in Peru and Chile. There was a limited selection of Pisco available here and I chose Capel Pisco. Cheers! #whatskarendrinking  Makes one serving: - 2 oz. @capelpisco - 3/4 oz. fresh lime juice. - 3/4 oz. simple syrup. - 1 egg white.  Typically you would garnish this 3 drops of Angostura Bitters and using a straw or pick would swirl the Bitters into a pattern. And of course in my haste of setting up and photographing...I totally forgot to...and it still tasted lovely. Nick and Nora glass from @crateandbarrel .

  • 💜Mom’s Empress1908 GandT💜  This is a very special weekend as celebrate my Mom’s 85th birthday and Mother’s Day. My Mom only drinks Gin and Tonic so I needed a special Gin for this occasion and chose Empress 1908 @empressgin1908 for its fabulous flavour and magical colour from Butterfly Pea Flowers. I also picked up several of the 50ml mini bottles to attach to the flower bouquets we are making for the Mom’s at our celebration brunch. Cheers! #whatskarendrinking - Makes one serving: - 2oz. Empress 1908 Gin. - Premium Tonic Water for topping. - I’ve garnished with a Stock flower. If you garnish with a flower verify that it is edible. 🌸

Here’s a sipper we’ve been enjoying on the deck and cheers to sunny days!  #whatskarendrinking  Makes one serving: - 1.5 oz. white rum. - .5 oz. @malibu_rum ( coconut rum). - 2 oz. fine strained mango nectar. - .5 oz. fresh squeezed lime juice. - .5 simple syrup.   • 🌸🌸Pretty in Pink GandT🌸🌸 I wanted a to serve an easy and pretty Gin and Tonic to welcome guests for Spring and Summer and it had to be pink. This fabulous colour is achieved with the magic of red dragon fruit syrup. The red dragon fruit is only available here occasionally and I learned from my knowledgeable friend Kori @cocktailsmandurah that the syrups can be frozen so it’s always on hand and lasts longer than simply refrigerating. I simply added a bar spoon to these Gin and Tonics to get this gorgeous colour. I also add the the syrup to Vodka Soda and sparking water water for my non-imbibing guests. Cheers! #whatskarendrinking

The Eclipse is the signature cocktail from the chain of Eclipse Bars in London, England and I found the recipe in Difford’s Guide. Cheers! #whatskarendrinking  Makes one serving and the floral garnish is for presentation only. - 12 fresh raspberries. - 2 oz. Bourbon. - 1 oz. Chambord. - .5 oz. fresh lime juice. - 2 oz. @oceansprayinc Cranberry Juice Cocktail.  Muddle raspberries in a shaker and then add the other ingredients and ice then shake vigorously.   • 🌸🍒 Cherry Blossom 🍒🌸 Cherry blossom season has started here in Vancouver and with over 40,000 cherry trees the city is a glorious sea of pink. So it seemed right to made a cherry type drink. Cheers and happy Friday!  #whatskarendrinking  Makes one serving: - 1.5 oz. Gin. - .5 oz. Cherryheering1818. - .5 tart cherry juice. - .5 oz. fresh lime juice. - 1/4 oz. simple syrup. - 2 dashes Cherry Bitters. - 2-3 oz. club soda(to preference). Shake all all ingredients (excluding club soda) vigorously with ice and strain into an ice filled glass then top with club soda.

  • 🌸🌸Pretty Little Tiki🌸🌸 I wanted a tiki drink for my Gin loving friend who dislikes Rum and beige drinks. I found a 1970’s recipe for a drink called Tradewinds from the Smugglers Cove Book that can be made with Gin or Rum and tweaked it a bit. I used @empress1908gin for the floral notes it added and the pretty delicate colour it created. I changed the 1 oz. of Apricot Liqueur the recipe called for to .5 oz. of Apricot Brandy. The drink is ever so delicious. Cheers! #whatskarendrinking  Makes one serving: - 2 oz. Empress1908 Gin. - .5 oz. Apricot Brandy. - 1 oz. fresh squeezed lemon juice. - 1.5 oz. coconut cream.  Shake all ingredients vigorously with ice and strain into a glass filled with crushed ice.

  • ✨✨✨SOUTHSIDE✨✨✨ Happy Friday everyone! The Southside  is one of those lovely classic and simple cocktails from the early 1900’s. The amount of syrup and mint seems to very from most recipes I found so I played around with it to find my taste. If you have a sweet tooth up the amount of syrup.  You can make it into a Southside Fizz by topping with some club soda which was equally tasty. - I used Ungava Gin @ungava_gin from Canada and love it’s flavour and bright yellow colour. It has herbs and berries from the Tundra: Wild Rose Hips, Crowberry, Labrador Tea, Cloudberry, Arctic Blend, and Nordic Juniper. Cheers! #whatskarendrinking  Makes one serving: - 7 Mint leaves. - 2 oz. Gin. - .5 oz. simple syrup. -  1 oz. fresh squeezed lime juice. - Place mint🌿and Syrup in a shaker and muddle. Add Gin, lime juice and ice and shake vigorously. Fine strain into a chilled coupe and enjoy.

  • 🌸🌸Pretty Little Tiki🌸🌸 I wanted a tiki drink for my Gin loving friend who dislikes Rum and beige drinks. I found a 1970’s recipe for a drink called Tradewinds from the Smugglers Cove Book that can be made with Gin or Rum and tweaked it a bit. I used @empress1908gin for the floral notes it added and the pretty delicate colour it created. I changed the 1 oz. of Apricot Liqueur the recipe called for to .5 oz. of Apricot Brandy. The drink is ever so delicious. Cheers! #whatskarendrinking  Makes one serving: - 2 oz. Empress1908 Gin. - .5 oz. Apricot Brandy. - 1 oz. fresh squeezed lemon juice. - 1.5 oz. coconut cream.  Shake all ingredients vigorously with ice and strain into a glass filled with crushed ice.

  • 🍍🍍Pineapple Passion 🍍🍍 I thought it was time to make a Vodka drink and here it is. A note about the foam: My test drinks had fabulous mile high foam...this one not so much. The first three I made for the photo had little or no foam at all and that was using egg white or Miraculous Foamer. Dare I say #foamlessinVancouver 😂 Anyone else ever have that problem?  Cheers! #whatskarendrinking  Makes one serving: - 2oz. Vodka. - 1 oz. unsweetened pineapple juice. - .5 oz. Passion fruit syrup. - .5 oz. fresh lemon juice. - 1 egg white or Foamer.  For my husband’s sweet tooth I added .25 oz. simple syrup and if you have some fresh pineapple on hand muddle a couple of chunks to get that burst of fresh cut pineapple.  Shake all ingredients with ice and then strain to discard ice and shake again vigorously without the ice. Strain into a chilled glass.

  • ✨Smokey Guava Margarita ✨  I was wandering down the juice aisle at the market and what caught my eyes were these tall glass bottles of beautiful orange Guava Nectar. Even though my wardrobe is 99% black I am so drawn to bright bold colours. The Guava Nectar was a new taste experience and from the different spirits my husband and I tried it with this a Tequila and Mezcal Margarita was our favourite. Cheers! #whatskarendrinking  Makes one serving and I rimmed the glass with a mixture of kosher salt and lime zest. - 1.5 oz. @espolontequila blanco. - 1/4 oz. @sombramezcal Mezcal. - .5 oz. triple sec. - 2.5 oz. I was totally fascinated with Ungava Gin @ungava_gin when the bold and beautiful yellow colour caught my eye in the Gin aisle. This Canadian Gin is named after the Ungava Peninsula found at the northern tip of Quebec. It has natural herbs and berries from the Tundra: Wild Rose Hips - Crowberry - Labrador Tea- Cloudberry - Arctic Blend - Nordic Juniper.......................................It's Juniper forward in flavour with floral and Citrus notes and some spiciness.  I have served it here with Tonic and fresh ruby red grapefruit juice and my husband (Mr. Taste Tester) enjoyed it in a Gimlet. Cheers! #whatskarendrinking

It's great to serve in a larger batch(just add the club soda at service). I used @espolontequila Blanco and @saltypaloma Havana Cocktail Rimmer which has grapefruit, lime, mint and cane sugar.   • 🍊Blood Orange Mint Julep 🍊  I was excited to find Blood Oranges at the market again and Four Roses Bourbon @fourrosesbourbon now sold here...so it seemed  the perfect time to make a delicious Mint Julep. The mint at the market was wasn't presentation pretty so I've used cherries as the garnish. Cheers!  #whatskarendrinking - 8 mint leaves 🍃. - 2 oz. @fourrosesbourbon - 1 oz. fresh blood orange juice. - 1 bar spoon simple syrup. - 1 cup crushed ice.  In a shaker middle mint with the bourbon, blood orange juice and simple syrup. Add ice and shake vigorously and then strain into a glass filled the crushed ice.
  • 🍊Blood Orange Mint Julep 🍊 I was excited to find Blood Oranges at the market again and Four Roses Bourbon @fourrosesbourbon now sold here...so it seemed the perfect time to make a delicious Mint Julep. The mint at the market was wasn't presentation pretty so I've used cherries as the garnish. Cheers! #whatskarendrinking - 8 mint leaves 🍃. - 2 oz. @fourrosesbourbon - 1 oz. fresh blood orange juice. - 1 bar spoon simple syrup. - 1 cup crushed ice. In a shaker middle mint with the bourbon, blood orange juice and simple syrup. Add ice and shake vigorously and then strain into a glass filled the crushed ice.

The wonderful flavours come from botanicals including juniper, rose, coriander seed, grapefruit Peel, ginger root, cinnamon bark, and The Fairmont Empress Hotel Tea Blend along with Butterfly Pea Flower Blossoms for that gorgeous indigo colour.   • I absolutely love the combination of Gin & Champagne in a classic  French 75 cocktail. It's the perfect drink to get the party started and to toast the New Year. I wanted a special one for this New Years Eve and simply added a bit of red dragon fruit to achieve this bold and beautiful colour. Wishing you all the best and much love and happiness in 2019.   • Spicy Cranberry Margarita🌶One if the easiest ways to pretty up drinks for the holidays is with cranberry simple syrup. Add .5 oz. to Gin & Tonic, Vodka Soda or in a Margarita like I have here. Garnish with a fresh sprig of rosemary and some cranberries and voila a festive serve. Cheers! #whatskarendrinking For the recipe I added chilli pepper jelly and I also tried a cranberry pepper jelly and also the red pepper jelly from Costco and all of them worked. So use what ever hot pepper jelly you have. -------------------------------- 1.5 oz. reposado Tequila. - .5 oz. triple sec. - .5 oz cranberry simple syrup. -  1 bar spoon chilli pepper jelly - 1/4 oz. fresh lime juice. The glass is rimmed with Maldon Sea Salt flakes and I sugared the rosemary and cranberry garnish.  Cranberry Simple Syrup------- 1 cup granular sugar- 1 cup filtered water - 2 cups fresh or frozen cranberries. Add sugar, water and cranberries to a saucepan and bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 20 until sugar is dissolved. Strain through a fine mesh sieve pressing the cranberries with the back of a spoon. Cool and then pour into an air tight container and keep refrigerated for up to 2 weeks. Makes about 1 1/4 cups.

When the slices have cooled add 4-6 slices to a cup of Gin ratio in a sealed glass jar and let sit for 2 days shaking occasionally. Knowing she would be making her fabulous pumpkin pies I knew she would have pumpkin purée on hand and she enjoys Tequila and here is the drink I made. A boozy creamy delicious ✨Pumpkin Margarita ✨  So to my family and friends in the U.S. on your Thanksgiving wishing you love, joy, peace and happiness. #whatskarendrinking  Makes one serving: - 2 oz. reposado Tequila @cabowabotequila - .5 oz. triple sec or Cointreau. - .5 oz. pumpkin purée. - .25 oz fresh lemon juice - 1 oz. half and half cream (12% to 15% milk fat). - .5 oz. agave syrup (or simple syrup). - 1 pinch of cinnamon. - 2 to 3 grates if nutmeg. - 2 dashes of Angostura Bitters.   • ✨✨🥓Fat Washed Caesar and Bloody Mary✨✨✨ - I've seen a lot of fat washing of spirits on the feed lately and decided to try it with Vodka. We serve Caesars and Bloody Mary's at brunch and the bacon fat washed Vodka added a subtle savoury flavour. Plus you get to eat the 🥓. - Cook 8 slices of bacon. Drain the fat into a cup and then pour through a fine sieve or coffee filter into a cup. Let cool  slightly. Measure out 1 oz. of the strained fat into a mason jar with 8 oz. of Vodka and let it sit for 12 hours at room temperature shaking occasionally. Then place jar in a freezer over night until the fat solidifies at the top of the jar. Scoop out as much fat as you can and strain through a coffee filter. Now enjoy! Cheers!  For the Caesar on the right I ruined the glass with @waltercaesar rimmer. -  2oz. Fat washed vodka. -  4 oz. @waltercaesar mix. - Squeeze of fresh lime juice. -  Cracked pepper. -  splash of Worcestershire  For the Bloody Mary on the left side of photo: I rimmed the glass with Tajin @tajinusaofficial -  2 oz. fat washed vodka. -  4 oz. tomato juice. - .25 oz. of fresh lemon juice. -  3 dashes of Worcestershire -  3 dashes of hot sauce. -  2 tsp. horseradish. - .5 tsp. celery salt (optional).   • Today I've made a  #whatsrickdrinking Classic Dry Martini for my husband who is also known here as Mr. Taste Tester and who's go to cocktail is a martini! -  Recently we visited Long Table Distillery here in Vancouver where they are handcrafting Premium Small-Batch Gins. We had the pleasure to meet Founder and Head Distiller Charles Tremewen and chat about Gin and what they're making. We sampled flights of Gin and next visit look forward to trying out cocktails from their menu.  We came home with some glassware for me that is sold in store with other bar accessories and a bottle of their London Dry Gin that Rick chose. It's a classic with 8 botanicals with forward notes of juniper and Citrus followed by earthy wood notes. I wanted an easy and delicious holiday drink to serve our guests and this is perfect. I made cranberry simple syrup and cranberry ice cubes which gives the drink that gorgeous holiday colour. Cheers to happy gatherings with your family and friends!  #whatskarendrinking  Makes one serving. - 2 oz. Gin. -  1 oz. Cranberry simple syrup. - .5 oz. fresh lemon juice. -  Club soda for topping.  Shake first three ingredients with ice and pour into an ice filled glass and top with Club Soda.  Cranberry Syrup Recipe: -  1.5 cups Cranberries (fresh or frozen). -  3/4 cup sugar. -  1 cup filtered water.  Makes 1.25 cups syrup. -  In a medium saucepan add water and bring to a boil. Add sugar & stir until dissolved then add Cranberries and reduce heat to low & simmer for 10 minutes. Strain through a fine mesh sieve pressing with the back of a spoon. Strain a second time.   • ✨Persimmon Old Fashioned ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ We're embracing Fall and Rye vibes here and getting ready for Old Fashioned Week Nov 1 to Nov 10th. I am looking forward to seeing everyone's creative Old Fashioned posts. In the meantime I found Fuyu Persimmons at the market and used them here with some Maple syrup. Cheers!  #whatskarendrinking  Makes one serving. -  2oz. @canadianclub Chairmans Select 100% Rye. - .5 oz. Persimmon pure. -  1 tsp. pure maple syrup. - .5 oz. fresh orange juice. -  1 sugar cube -  4 dashes orange bitters.  Place the sugar cube and bitters in an old fashioned glass and muddle until the sugar is dissolved. Add the other ingredients and stir and then a large ice cube and gently stir.  Note: To make the Persimmon purée peel a couple of ripe Fuyu Persimmons and then cut into cubes. You can either purée in a blender or mash by hand and then press the pulp through a fine mesh sieve using the back of a spoon.

I had some homemade Strawberry 🍓 syrup left over from the last batch of fresh strawberries I picked and this is what I made. Cheers!  #whatskarendrinking  Makes one serving. -  1.5 oz. Gin - .5 oz. @campariofficial - .5 fresh lime juice -  3/4 oz. strawberry syrup -  Club Soda for topping.   • 🍓Strawberry Delight 🍓  The local Strawberries have been outstanding this summer and I have been making a lot of strawberry simple syrup for drinks and topping ice cream and pancakes. We have enjoyed drinking this easy to make summer sipper on the deck and as a welcoming drink for guests. Cheers!  #whatskarendrinking  Makes one serving and recipe for the syrup follows. -  1.5 oz. vodka -  2 strawberries. - .5 oz. fresh lime juice. - .5 to 1 oz. of strawberry simple syrup (depending on your sweetness preference). - chilled club soda. - Muddle the Strawberries in a glass then add the vodka, strawberry syrup and lime juice. Give it a stir, add ice an top with club soda. Garnish with some mint and a strawberry. - Strawberry Syrup Recipe- - 1 lb. Strawberries washed and cut. - 1 cup filtered or bottled water. - 1 cup sugar.  Place sugar and water in a saucepan over med-high heat and stir until sugar is dissolved. Add cut strawberries and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Double strain and cool and refrigerate in an air tight container for up to 2 weeks. I always date the container.

  • "Blackberry Bourbon Smash"  With the hot sunny summer we've had the local blackberries are huge and bursting with sweet flavour. They are absolutely perfect for this Blackberry Bourbon Smash. I used @buffalotrace Bourbon. Cheers!  #whatskarendrinking  Makes one serving: -  2 oz. Bourbon. -  6-8 fresh blackberries. -  6 mint leaves. - 1 oz. liquid honey. . - 1 oz. fresh lemon juice. -  4 oz. chilled ginger beer( or if you prefer use ginger ale). -  In a glass muddle the blackberries, mint, honey and lemon juice. -  Fill the glass with ice, add the Bourbon and top with with the chilled ginger beer.

  • I was absolutely thrilled to finally find a Pink Gin sold here in Vancouver. Even better is that it is a locally made Craft Gin by "The Liberty Distillery" @tldistillery located on @granville_island in Vancouver. "Endeavour Gin-Pink Navy Strength" has a slightly sweet and floral taste with rose and citrus notes.   • Tequila Watermelon Cooler🍉 It's a long Weekend here for my fellow Canadians and I wanted to make a summery big batch drink for us to welcome guests with over the weekend. The glasses are rimmed in Pink Himalayan salt and I used Patron Reposado Tequila. Makes 6 to 8 servings. - ---8 cups cubed seedless watermelon 🍉. -  1 1/2 cup Tequila. -  3/4 cup agave syrup. -  3/4 cup fresh lime juice. -  Club Soda for topping. - whirl watermelon in a blender until smooth. -  Pour liquid through a fine mesh sieve several times to remove the foam. -  Add the Tequila , lime juice and Agave to the watermelon juice and chill until serving time. -  When your ready to serve stir well and divide among your glasses and top with Club Soda.   • 🌸Pink Gin Lemonade🌸  We had a heat wave this week and I hosted a family dinner so the perfect summer welcoming drink was Lemonade. I wanted something simple, delicious,pretty and boozy. The brilliant gorgeous colour comes naturally from Red Dragon Fruit and you don't need a lot to achieve this colour. The glasses are rimmed with pink sugar. -  I put 3 generous scoops of pulp from the Red Dragon Fruit in 1 cup of Gin in a sealed jar overnight and then fine strained it into another jar. To make one serving: - 1 1/2 infused gin -  1 oz. fresh lemon juice - .5 oz. simple syrup -  3 oz. chilled filtered water.  You can also big batch this and refrigerate before serving. Keep any leftover infused gin refrigerated for future use for up to 2 weeks.  #whatskarendrinking

We are sipping on botanical and beautiful indigo coloured @empressgin1908 mixed with club soda for less Calories and sugar than Tonic. If you do mix this gin with Tonic it turns a gorgeous pink colour which you can see in my post from February. Instead of a charcuterie and cheese plate I made a simple and yet pretty vegan appetizer by filling endive spears with thinly sliced rainbow radishes and purple cabbage. They are topped with a drizzle of @bobalifoods vegan Cilantro Basil Jalapeño and lime Pesto from @wholefoods . And I totally forgot to sprinkle on the toasted pine nuts. By the time I realized that my husband had eaten them. Cheers! #whatskarendrinking

  • "Under the Sea Margaritas"🐠 Happy Friday everyone! When I saw these summer glasses from Presidents Choice @preschoice the song "Under the Sea" from the Little Mermaid movie was on repeat in my head. I wanted to make some drinks in the colour of coral that you would find in the Great Barrier Reef.  #whatskarendrinking  Each recipe makes 1 serving.  Spicy Mango Margarita - -  1 1/2 reposado tequila -  1 oz. triple sec. -  1 oz. fresh lime juice. -  2 oz. mango nectar. -  1/2 oz. agave syrup. -  2 dashes hot sauce. -  1 cup ice -  Put all ingredients into a blender and process then pour into a glass. -Red Dragon Fruit Margarita-  Make the dragon fruit juice by scooping out the flesh of the fruit and place it in a fine mesh sieve. Press the Fruit against the sieve with the back of a spoon. Fine strain the juice again. Store the extra juice in the fridge. -  1 1/2 reposado Tequila -  1 oz. triple sec -  1 oz. fresh lime juice. -  1 oz. red dragon fruit juice. -  1/2 oz. agave syrup. -  1 cup ice.  Add all ingredients to a blender to process then add to a glass. - In Vancouver I get the Red Fruit from @granville_island Market.

  • The Canada Day 🇨🇦 long weekend is here and I am ready with Boozy Iced Coffee. I like to use @bernardincanning mason/canning jars as glasses and also use them for the flower arrangements. To make the espresso I used 2 pods of @nespresso Dharkan flavour.  Makes one serving. -  2 oz. cold espresso. -  1 oz. @sidthehandcraftedvodka -  1 oz. Creme de Cacau. -  1/2 oz. @kahlua -  heavy cream or light cream to drizzle on the top. Shake all ingredients with and strain into an iced filled mason jar/glass.  Cheers! #whatskarendrinking

  • 🌴🌴 Jungle Bird 🌴🌴 My mom bought me what she thought was a cute Flower Vase and I was thrilled when I saw it was a Tiki Mug. Thanks Mom.💕 I knew the perfect drink would be a Jungle Bird created in the 1970's at the Aviary Bar in Kuala Lumpar. It is one of the simplest Tiki drinks as it requires less ingredients than most and delicious with the addition of Campari. I occasionally switch out the simple syrup in the recipe with Passion Fruit syrup. Cheers!  #whatskarendrinking  I use @goslingsrum Bermuda Black Rum. Makes 1 serving. -  1 1/5 oz. dark rum. -  3/4 oz. @campariofficial -  1 1/2 oz. pineapple juice. -  1/2 oz. fresh lime juice. -  1/2 oz. simple syrup. -  Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into an ice filled glass. With the Tiki Mug I used crushed ice. The Tiki Mug (or Vase) is from @papyrus at @oakridgecentre .
