  • Everything that I do, I do for my daughter. She’s my blessing — My gift from God, and I am going to give her the world. 🌎
I have big dreams and goals for us, and believe me when I say that we are going to reach them and we are going to succeed in life. 🍒

  • This week #TryANewWineTuesday is a bit different!! Today, my wife and I welcomed a very healthy baby boy into the world!! I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than with my favourite champagne - @champagnehenriot In 1850 they were declared the official supplier to the Imperial and Royal court of Austria. The champagne house has been owned and run by the Henriot family since it was founded in 1808. Although this is my favourite champagne it’s notoriously difficult to find. Thankfully I found out my friends at @finewinetome stock it!! As it’s birth week, I’ll also be doing a week of very nice wines....watch this space!!

🍷 This champagne has a delicate mousse and ultra fine bubbles. The nose triumphantly displays notes of stewed apples and brioche. Then comes a perfumed wave of fresh pear, white flowers and a touch of lemony citrus. The top of the nose gets hints of red berries and a whisper of salinity.
The palate continues with the apple and brioche theme from the nose but with a touch of toasted hazelnuts drizzled in burnt caramel. The palate has a creaminess to it but also good acidity and a refreshing minerality. This all ends with a persistent finish of toasted sourdough bread.
Needless to say, now I know where I can reliably get this champagne from, I’ll be getting more to add to the cellar!! .

🎼 My music pairing for this wine (and the birth) is the music that’s playing in the video. It’s the Gigue from Bach’s fifth French Suite in G major BWV.816. The piece encapsulates joy, exuberance, anticipation and excitement. It was also the music that was in my head when we had our first child! .

  • Tag two friends who would crush this wine!⁣
-⁣
Boomtown Syrah 2017 from Washington State, $23.95⁣
-⁣
Blueberry.⁣
Crispy Sage.⁣
Sweet tobacco.⁣
Rich and full.⁣
-⁣
How about it, Washington? Many of the good wines exported from this region can be quite $$$ in Ontario, so I’m always happy when I stumble across a well made option under $25! Washington State ranks second in production in the US after California, and although it built its rep around Merlot, its now known for world class Syrah and Cabernet.

As an entry level Syrah, this bottle will please both the casual drinker and serious wino. Grab a couple before it disappears. Stay awesome, y’all!⁣

  • Didn’t want to do that workout. Pressed pause one too many times. Shut my laptop and almost didn’t finish. Then I got out of my own head and got it done.

Just bc we have bad days doesn’t mean we shouldn’t focus on ourselves. On the worst of days, it’s MOST important to put ourselves first. A lot is going on in life and I need to focus on the positive and not the negative.

Dylan will be graduating with his masters in December and there are endless amounts of unknowns. Where are we going to move next, what jobs is he going to apply to, is he going right into his PhD, what am I going to do. Ahh it’s SO much and sometimes hard to handle.

Everything happens for a reason and I’m a firm believer of that. So instead of letting the unknown taking over my emotions and like, I’m going to hone in one the PRESENT & take it one day at a time ❤️

  • This is the Nomacorc. It feels a bit rubbery, slides out of your bottle easily, and preserves your wine just like a typical cork. It can expand and contract with the temperature, and allows for controlled oxygen, keeping a wine’s age-ability in tact. Only, it’s not made from cork...it’s made from sugarcane. Because of this technology, this closure minimizes the impact on the environment, reduces carbon footprint, is recyclable, and avoids the dreaded TCA cork taint that plagues 2-3% of wines. 😯⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This closure is from one of my @scoutandcellar wine bottles. A bottle that also did not have a foil capsule on it, because they just create more unnecessary waste 🗑 . A bottle that was created with one of our ethical winemakers, who farm, make, bottle, and operate sustainably 🌿. Some of our partners even have 100% self-sustaining estates, using only the power they generate 💪🏻. Our winemakers believe in nurturing their land, creating a healthy ecosystem that at the end of the day doesn’t really need us humans, or our chemicals, because Mother Nature knows what she’s doing...and she makes some damn fine wine, y’all. 🍷⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I could go on about what Scout & Cellar values and the multitude of ways we thoughtfully go about our little corner of the wine biz, but I digress. I’ll end this with a toast to the Earth on its day: we are thankful for the abundance you continue to show us, how you fill our cups, our bellies, and still show off. Cheers to Earth Day! 🌎
