Op een doordeweekse middag hier afgesproken met een vriendin. Pand is indrukwekkend als je er binnenstapt en dadelijk een oogje op de open keuken kan werpen. We werden door een vriendelijke ober naar de kelder begeleid voor een aperitiefje. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Hier kan je tussen de oude gewelven tot rust komen.
De kok zelf kwam ons hier begroeten en vroeg ons naar onze voorkeuren, er kwam geen kaart aan te pas. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We hebben genoten van de 3gangen lunch voor een zeer aangename prijs met begeleidende wijntjes. Super!

Bij het verlaten van het pand maakte chef Van Herck ons attent op het glasraam en vertelde ons wat over de historie van het huis. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino “Madonna del Piano” Riserva 2010🍇

The Valdicava winery was purchased by Bramante Martini in 1953.

Mr. Martini was the founder of the “Consorzio del Brunello”, an association of producer, and began producing the esteemed wine, starting in 1968.

Currently Valdicava has 27 hectares of vineyards, all of Sangiovese grapes, from which Brunello Valdicava, Brunello Riserva and Rosso di Montalcino are produced.🍷 The Madonna del Piano vineyard is one of the oldest and most important Cru of the Montalcino area.❤️ The Riserva 2010 “Madonna del Piano” it’s marvelous, made of 100% of sangiovese grosso, it age five years in big cask from Slavonia and one year in bottles, a great wine, structured, complex on the nose, elegant and harmonious.❤️You know why? Because 2010 was on of the best vintage in Italy for the production of wines!🔝🍷 The Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino 2013, 100% sangiovese grosso, it age 42 months in big cask made with Slavonian wood, it’s an extraordinaries wine, on the nose hints of black and red fruits, sweet spices, the taste is full, fresh, and complex.🔝🍷 So guys comes to VINOLAND to taste it!😉 See you soon Wine lovers🍷

and one is the Italian red Anglianico made by @calabriafamilywines where Australia and Italy merge to create a fantastico wine! }

Calabria Wines I only recently discovered on my walk to the train station from work, when the eye catching old school label of their Anglianico red caught my attention. }

The Calabria 2016 vintage is a vibrant cherry red colour with a medium body, high acidity and firm silky tannins. On the nose it has dark cherry and chocolate aromas. On the palate there is cherry, raspberry, cranberry, licorice and earth. To me this wine is juicy, refreshing, and easy to drink. Oh so easy! }
So, about the Anglianico grape 🍇

The Anglianico red wine grape is a very old grape and according to Oenologist Denis Dubourdieu is "the grape probably with the longest consumer history of all." Anglianico was brought to Southern Italy by the Greeks in ancient times and there it became the most planted variety in the south, widely made and enjoyed in the Basilicata and Campania regions. }
This grape is known as the Barolo of the south sharong some of the "King of Wines" qualities, especially the tannins and ability of aging well. The tannins soften in 3 to 5 years which is a good age to enjoy it, but it is delicious young, as I found out! }

This Calabria family are a respected Italian/Australian winemaking family established in 1945, in the Riverina area of New South Wales. Their current chief winemaker Emma Norbiato was awarded Australian Winemaker of the year by the Australian Women in Wine Awards, and some respected wine critics have given Calabria Wines excellent reviews. The Calabria family brought the expertise of Italian winemakers to Australia, that is for certain. }
I loved this Anglianico and can't wait to try more from Calabria Wines. I have done my research and their trophy winning Vermentino on my list. They also make my favorite wine, the south Italian great Nero d'avola. So I'll be getting some of that too! }
Anglianico is a wine too well known in Australia, but it definitely needs to be! Drink a wine the ancient Romans would have enjoyed. There is a reason it is being drunk to this day!

郡上八幡産のアブサン。ブルガリア産と国産のニガヨモギを使用し、ベーススピリッツに蔵純粋などの焼酎を使用しています。今回は辰巳蒸留所の辰巳祥平さんに直接お話を伺いながらテイスティングさせていただきました。

2017年の夏に正式稼働した辰巳蒸留所さんですが、すでに日本国内の人気は凄まじく、辰巳さんの確固たる意志の表れたアブサンやジンには、郡上八幡の土地だけでなく、そこに根付く文化が感じられます。

2017年11月にオイデナーレ(ゆず使用のジン)とポップジンを飲んで以来、様々飲む機会があり、今回のボトルは8本目となりました。

加水によりやや白濁した色合いに。香りは繊細さも感じられますが、アブサンらしくアニスのようなツンとした甘い香りがあり、種や葉、かすかに柑橘のニュアンスが感じられます。

味わいはパワフルさよりも素材の良さ、透明感があり、高いアルコール度数ながら複雑さも表されています。

ちなみに、この時ベーススピリッツの蔵純粋を一緒に飲み比べました。そちらは香りにスパイシーな要素があり、ほのかに芋の焼けた皮のニュアンスが感じられ、ほっくりとした甘さの中に皮の風味や厚みと旨味の層が表れていました。

辰巳蒸留所さんの特徴は、まず蒸留の方法でしょう。古式兜釜蒸留器という、東洋的な蒸留器を用いて作られるスピリッツは、どこか野生的で原料の強さが表現されています。非常に生産性が低い方法で、年間60回ほど稼働させるそうです。

なぜアブサンなのですか? という私の質問に、他の誰もやっていないお酒だからということの他に、郡上八幡がアブサンの生産地に似ているからだとおっしゃられた言葉が印象的でした。現在、ブルガリア産のニガヨモギを使用していますが、郡上八幡の2軒の農家さんにも栽培をお願いしており、今度4軒に増えるとのことで、近い将来国産ニガヨモギを使用したアブサンを作れるとのことでした。

そちらも非常に楽しみです!

🙋🏻‍♂️Have you had Carignane before?  What’s your take on this varietal?

Dusty cherry and a slightly spicy nose, somewhat muted. The 100% Carbonic Maceration and old vine fruit(planted in 1912) really shows here with intense, tart fruit and an incredible freshness. No big bruiser here, a mere 11.9% ABV, and very drinkable.

This won’t be for everyone, but if you’re on the crunchy, light bodied, acidic natural wine side of your reds, this is quite nice. .
For me, this could use a bit more complexity and depth in both aromatics and flavor profile and a little more oomph from a mouthfeel standpoint.

❓Did you know...that until French government backed subsidies in the 1980’s encouraged farmers to rip up Carignan and replace with “superior” grapes like Syrah, it was the most planted grape varietal in France?  Given its high yielding nature, the best wines are made from old, lower yielding vines, which is now largely what remains in Southern France!
