The land of Castello di Meleto extend around the medieval town for about 2,470 acres: of these 395 are reserved for growing grapes. Sangiovese is the main varietal used in the production of the Chianti Classico DOCG. Other varietals planted in the '80s include Merlot and Cabernet, but since the late 90s there has been a process of replanting aimed at enhancing the traditional heritage of grapes in Tuscany, also introducing some white varieties such as Vermentino.
The soil is primarily composed of galestro, a chalky marlstone, alberese, a weathered sandstone and calcareous marl, from this arid and rocky soil the vines bring forth their best fruits, rich in natural aromas and fragrances.
Castello di Meleto produces primarily traditional Chianti Classico DOCG, a modern, intriguing Spumante Brut Rosè, two typical and distinct types of Grappa, an organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil as well as breeding the Cinta Senese breed of pig.

As the result of the notable experience of the Loredan Gasparini vinery’s in the production of red wines, this Merlot proposes the pleasantness of the Montello micro-territory (North of Venice).
It is made from the Falconera vineyard located near Villa Spineda – Gasparini Loredan in Venegazzù, where once the noble hawking took place.
It is mellow and convincing as a great wine also thanks to the refining for 18 months in big oak.
Little secret of our winery is the blend of a hint of Malbec, coming from the same vineyard, that give freshness and a delicate spices notes.

香りは熟したブラックチェリーやブラックベリーに爽やかなミント、トマトの葉、そしてペッパーやローズマリーなどのスパイスのヒント。他にタバコ葉、乾いた土のニュアンスに、ほんのり甘さが感じられる。口に含むとスムーズでなめらか。柔らかなタンニンと調和のとれた酸味、ボディは程よく円やかな果実感で満ち溢れる。幾分フルーティーで親しみやすさがあるが、落ち着いた感があり上品でまとまっている。ミディアムからフルボディで、飲み心地が良い。

香りはミネラルを基調に、シトラスや白桃、洋梨、リンゴ、香り立つ白い花のアロマ。そして石、特徴的な塩気を伴い、透明感と瑞々しさがひしひしと伝わってくる。口に含むと爽やかでボリュームのある果実感。酸とのバランスが素晴らしく、フレッシュかつジューシーなエキス分に富む。スッキリとしながら果実由来の甘さをほんのり感じ豊かなミネラル感が余韻まで続く。ハリ・充実感のある辛口の白。

ℹ️ This wine is from Yakima Valley, Washington. It is 💯 Cabernet Franc. This wine is made in a "Nouveau" style using Carbonic Maceration, which is popular in Beaujolais, France. Carbonic Maceration starts by loading whole cluster grapes into a stainless steel tank and then pumping CO2 gas into the sealed tank. The anaerobic environment promotes intracellular fermentation (non-yeast based) to start inside the whole berry until the grapes burst. After the grape bursts, conventional fermentation takes over. The wine was bottled unfiltered after spending 10 months in steel tanks. The resulting wines have lifted fruity aromas, good acidity, and reduced tannins·

🔔 Wine geek alert ⚠️ I don't think I have had a Carbonic Cabernet Franc before this bottle. A simple, enjoyable, and immensely quaffable wine. These grapes are from a young vine block of Cabernet Franc in the Red Willow Vineyard. No noticeable pyrazines on the nose. The fruit is ripe, lifted, almost candied. Making this unfiltered with a lot of sediment gave the wine a good texture. Fun to see "full" Carbonic Maceration, versus the "semi" style that higher-end Cru Beaujolais usually performs·

  • Ahead of its time, Le Domaine de l'écu has been certified as an organic agriculturist since 1975 and certified Biodynamic since 1988 (Demeter). They believe that a great wine is conceived at the vine, and their attention is directed toward ploughing the ground, output control, canopy management, manual grape harvesting and respect of the biotope. They use no artificial technology in their cellars, and each of their vats is linked to a particular soil and a particular vintage. They are members of the "Renaissance des Appellations", a group committed to respecting the soil.

MEPHISTO 2015 is a red Demeter-Certified Cabernet Franc aged in amphora, It reveals a subtle, elegant bouquet with well-balanced aromas, pickled, slightly oxidized dark cherries, plums,violets and fur. This medium-bodied wine is fresh and meaty, quite transparently structured by fine tannins with nice acidity, giving it finesse and balance. (5000 botltes produced)

ANGE 2017 is a pinot noir combining grace, vigor, strength and pleasure. Silky attack, great complexity combining power and delicacy, bright fruit on very ripe black berries, intense notes of blackberry, blue flowers, violet and delicate notes of spices with long finish (2600 bottles produced)

TAURUS 2012 is made of 100% melon blanc. It is elegant nose with pronounced mineral notes, citrus, lemon and grapefruit notes, delicate notes of white flowers, dried fruits, almonds, toasty notes. Rich, opulent palate counterbalanced by a fine acidity, a liveliness that brings the balance of this wine. Slender, complex, powerful, the palate blends notes of orchard fruit, pear, apricot, rhubarb and licorice. A wine with a great length, final on white pepper. (3500 bottles produced).     TAURUS 2012 is made of 100% melon blanc. It is elegant nose with pronounced mineral notes, citrus, lemon and grapefruit notes, delicate notes of white flowers, dried fruits, almonds, toasty notes. Rich, opulent palate counterbalanced by a fine acidity, a liveliness that brings the balance of this wine. Slender, complex, powerful, the palate blends notes of orchard fruit, pear, apricot, rhubarb and licorice. A wine with a great length, final on white pepper. (3500 bottles produced).
