Ein Vater ist nicht immer der Mann der einen erzeugt hat. Es ist der Mann der einen groß gezogen hat. Der einen liebt auch wenn man nicht liebenswürdig ist. Du bist mein Vater für mich, denn du hast mir gezeigt was vaterliebe bedeutet. Ich habe dich lieb 😘
We were so excited to receive this postcard from the #AbsolutelyFabulous Joanna Lumley!
Our #WishYouWereHere campaign is designed to celebrate the sharing of holiday memories, since sharing one's stories with others is such a valued aspect of a #Revitalise holiday!
There's beauty in struggle, according to a wise person prone to graffiti, who was compelled to express it to all passersby. And this photo of family - family not by blood, but by chosen bond - is proof of that.
On the left is Bob’s sister, the youngest of their family. Not only did she lose one brother in Bob, but she lost another brother less than two years later when their oldest sibling also died. And in 2012 she (and I) lost a nephew, who is the first-born son of the woman in the middle of the photo. That woman, who suffers the unimaginable loss of a child, also happens to be the ex-wife of Bob’s deceased, oldest brother. There is a ton of complication among THAT grief, as you can imagine. She also suffers the loss of Bob, as well as loved ones on her side of the family.
And then there is me, on the right, somehow smiling just a few days ago (because time spent with these incredible women makes me smile) as I was approaching today's four-year mark of Bob’s death.
As a result of these losses, we struggle with grief and its ebbs and flows. Time lessens the excruciating pain of these tragic deaths. However, it can never erase the voids and the struggles caused by them sometimes.
Yet, there we are, the three of us continuing to love and support one another in beautiful ways, always knowing that we all feel these losses, daily, always and forever. And we go on living and knowing that there is more of these dead loved ones inside of us than there ever could be in their respective graves. And more of them - the very BEST of them - will continue to become part of us.
