  • Budding pine cones have an intense colour to them. I always thought they just went from brown to slightly different brown.

  • I have read that bluebell woods are unnatural places. Many years ago, wild boar would have ploughed up the earth, breaking up the swathes of blue and allowing other plants to establish. But there aren't many wild boar in the UK anymore, which is why we have such high densities of bluebells. And yet, even though I wish we had wild boar roaming through our woodlands again (along with many more of our once were fauna) I can't help but be intoxicated by these flower-seas of blue. The colour and scent lights me up so intensely that I find it difficult to pull myself away. Sometimes, when the evening starts to slip into the night, I could swear I have stepped into another realm. Unnatural perhaps, but undoubtably enchanting.

  • There's a thick mix of plant life adorning Haughmond Hill. The pathways knot themselves through the trees, criss-crossing and swallowing you as you walk between the trunks. In the deepest parts of the wood, little light reaches through, leaving the intricate undergrowth plant life in near eternal shade.
