I believe this lil snuffler is a field mouse, Apodemus sylvaticus 🐭 Waiting for my nightly badger visit, I heard a sudden scrabbling sound coming from the hallway. Seems it's not just the birds and badgers who like peanuts, as this guy had got stuck in the seed bin.
Field mice (or wood mice) have a skinnier tail, and are a bit less stinky than house mice. They're a bit like jays in that they play an important role in woodland ecology. Their fondness of seeds, and their tendancy to stash them for later means forgotten seeds germinate into new trees 🌳🌲🌳 This guy was quite curious, and had obviously had his fill in bird seed and peanuts. I snapped a shot and then let him scurry away into the night with a full mousey belly.
