  • Celebrating the International Festival of Authors this evening at a reception hosted by our pals @penguinrandomca - in their stunning office!! We would have taken a shot of the party in action, but opted for this photo of their sensational hallway book wall. 📒📘📕📗📙 (Take our word for it though... it was a full house at the literary soirée!) 🥂

  • “Translators/linguists work with WORDS, which are tiny items with low prices.”
•
Do you agree with this idea? I heard it some weeks ago in a round table, and I think I’ve never disagreed with a sentence more 😕
•
What’s a word out of a CONTEXT? It could mean everything and nothing at the same time. That’s why writers and translators:
•
Interprete words in the right way taking into account the writer’s purpose 📚
•
Combine the right words and ideas so that readers can access to valuable and interesting content🔗📝
•
Find the correct translation to keep the meaning of the original text while respecting the culture of the new audience🔍
•
If linguists wrote isolated words, we would read texts full of ambiguity and nonsenses, we couldn’t find interesting books, we couldn’t stay informed...
•
All this means we write with a purpose, shape and connect ideas, entertain readers, make them think, and much more.
•
The “tiny words” we use contain a whole world of meanings, concepts and contexts behind them. We should appreciate all this work that can’t be quantified by just “counting words.”
